  1. gluten-free restaurants around here use the hamburger bun from canyonglutenfree.com (Loveland, CO)
  2. I got stones in 2013. At that point my lifelong celiac symptoms were significantly receding, having been gluten free since 2003. A urologist broke up the stones that would not pass, with a laser device inserted thru the urethra. My biochemistry is much more stable now and I feel quite well; I'm not expecting a reoccurrence of stones. My regular doc has...
  3. If you go vegetarian, strongly urge you to: Keep track of your B-12 level. Keep your TBP (Total Blood Protein) in top half of normal range (6.2-8.3 g/dl)
  4. Obviously Mr Teixeira has never been sick enough to figure out what the word "fun" means.
  5. Once gluten rips up your gut, it's not uncommon to be unable to digest dairy. I recovered ability to tolerate (somewhat) dairy after being off gluten more than 5 years. But face it, lactose and caseins are problematic for human digestion. Many feel that nobody should use dairy. These days, almost all the dairy I use is high-quality fermented (kefir, buttermilk...
  6. Lab tests don't matter. What really matters is your symptoms. Those symptoms seem pretty clear: get off gluten! BTW, do you know that most wheat these days is the transgenic dwarf variety, which has much more gluten (and toxicity) than the heirloom varieties?
  7. Guess things havent improved all that much. Took 12 years to diagnose me, and that was from a naturopath.
  8. I am a male and a celiac. Some obvious parallels with my situation ... Lots of cavities as a kid, couldn't gain as much muscle as other boys, lots of cold/canker sores that continued well into adulthood. After getting a celiac diagnosis, and years of trial-and-error treatment, the continuing problems that are now treated are: Hypothyroid. Hashimotos...
  9. What matters are your symptoms! Do they go away if you stay off gluten for a while?
  10. Normaliizing thyroid and blood protein are key.
  11. I take both T3 (cytomel) and T4 (levoxyl) because King Pharmaceuticals, years ago, declared they are gluten-free. King is now owned by another company but i still trust their products. Also, the maker of Unithroid declares it is gluten-free. I wont use Synthroid. Their attitude reminds me of the old Lilly Tomlin joke .... Were the phone company, we dont...
  12. Not sad at all. You're learning one way how the industrial agriculture system hurts people, and now you are ready to learn the rest of the story. Priceless. Your revenge will be to have good health the rest of your life.
  13. Depending on how long you've had celiac, you could have low Total Blood Protein. You should find out what your TBP is ... Lab normal range 6.2 < TBP < 8.3 g/dl. Optimal is at least midrange. If high quality protein foods won't keep it up, then opt for supplements. I had celiac for a long time before diagnosis, so I have to use a blend of free essential...
  14. Panic attack can be caused by low thyroid. Low thyroid can be caused by gluten-triggered autoimmunity.
  15. A lot of gluten-free processed, high-glycemic foods aren't much better than their gluten equivalents.
  16. I'm planning on skipping SB and going to the gym instead. That removes the problem of what to serve.
  17. Has he been tested for endocrine autoimmunity? Autoimmunity against the thyroid or pancreas seem to be the most common types. Some docs are clueless about this.
  18. Make sure you're getting a high-quality probiotic. If something has messed up your biome, you need to fix it to get good digestive function back. Oral antibiotics can mess up digestion. You need to keep in mind that gluten can cause many autoimmune diseases, including Hashimoto's, which will eventually destroy the thyroid if you can't get rid of it...
  19. Keep in mind that what matters, is how you feel! If getting off gluten makes you feel better, then that is what matters. The doc should have done both gliadin antibody and tissue transglutaminase tests. If not at least both of those tests were done, then whether you really qualify as celiac is not known. You could well be just gluten intolerant; and...
  20. First, I hope you are vaporizing your 420 rather than rolling & smoking it. Smoking creates too many toxins. If you must do 420, make sure you drink extra water to hydrate. While I had gluten enteropathy, I could not tolerate any intoxicant. Alcohol (a depressant) was especially bad. The two key factors in this, triggered by gluten, were: (1)...
  21. Gluten is a classic trigger for Hashimoto's. You should also remember that, if those tests were done via blood sample, blood tests are not the most sensitive method of testing for gliadin sensitivity. I think you should go on a gluten-free trial. In spite of what gluten proponents will say, going gluten-free is not THAT big a deal. Also, if your son...
  22. I took this question to Ron Hoggan because of his experience. What Ron had to say: In addition to responding to gluten/gliadin, the saliva tests will respond to other substances such as avenin from oats. In the past year, I had used clean oats (the varieties from Bob's Red Mill and Gifts of Nature, which are grown on dedicated fields) on a few occasions...
  23. Hairloss and weakness can be indicators of a thyroid problem. Did the specialist GP you went to, test for out-of-range TSH, FT3, and/or FT4? Did he check for Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) and/or Thyroglobulin (TG) antibodies? Thyroid antibodies scream "Hashimoto's", and gluten is a well-known trigger for Hashi's. I don't know just how good your GP is, but...
  24. Actually ... I don't know! I had silent celiac; I never had 'classic' celiac symptoms, even though gluten enteropathy was probably progressing slowly for most of my life. What finally took me out were the 'indirect' symptoms stemming from thyroid dropout (gluten-provoked Hashimoto's) and adrenal arrhythmia/HPA Axis dysfunction. So, I can't depend on...
  25. This sounds much like malabsorption. That is, much of the fat and/or protein you're taking in, isn't being utilized. Malabsorption is a major problem associated with gluten enteropathy. Chances are good that if you had a comprehensive metabolic profile, it would show protein and/or cholesterol below the normal ranges. Malabsorption also means you are...
