ARCHIVED Vent About Olympics & Food Choices
Reba32 replied to solarglobe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd get a doctor's note and carry it in my lunch box. -
ARCHIVED Am I Still Having Withdrawals?
Reba32 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
unless you're drinking the sugar free Gatorade, it has high fructose corn syrup in it, and I personally would not touch that stuff with a ten foot pole! (they are apparently reformulating to take it back out again sometime this year) I make a homemade "sport drink" with 1 litre water, (32 oz) 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/4 tsp salt and 1 pkt stevia. ... -
ARCHIVED Is This Really Celiac?
Reba32 replied to Chrisco's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
you can be gluten intolerant, and not have Celiac disease. Gluten intolerance is not likely to show up in a blood test, and it won't show up on an intestinal biopsy. Gluten intolerance is the precurser to Celiac disease. The only way to "cure" either one of them, is to go gluten free. Unfortunately for gluten intolerance without Celiac, the only real... -
ARCHIVED Skin Care Need To Be Gluten Free?walmart Products
Reba32 replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't have DH, but I do have a skin reaction to using products that have gluten in them I think. The soap at work was tearing my hands to shreds. I stopped using it and now I just use anti-bacterial hand wash at work. The soap I have at home doesn't bother me. I always have a small bottle of hand wash in my purse with me for when I'm out shopping... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs Get Paid $500 For A Plasma Donation
Reba32 replied to Edo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wonder if it's something else in the blood from people who are prone to auto-immune diseases, and they've just categorized them? I have quite a collection of them myself. Or genetic testing or something. -
ARCHIVED What About Smellling Gluten Products?
Reba32 replied to detritus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
depends on how you're smelling that bread. If you're just walking into a kitchen that happens to have a loaf in the oven/machine, or if you walk past a bakery, it is unlikely that it'll have an affect. But if you stick your nose directly in the bread as it is mixing, whith the flour flying around, yes, that may have an affect in the soft tissue of your... -
ARCHIVED Can Stress Make Celiac Disease Symptoms Become Worse?
Reba32 replied to Evangeline's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
if you've had celiac undiagnosed for a few years, yes, the symptoms will get worse over time, and will eventually create more symptoms, and possibly more auto-immune diseases. As they pile up higher and higher, so to speak, they will become more noticable, even if before you thought your occasional upsets were "normal". -
ARCHIVED Benefits Of Living Gluten-Free
Reba32 replied to Glutin-Free Man's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like that there are so many people in this thread enjoying life, rather than complaining about the ruddy hand that's been dealt them. I like that I feel so much better than I EVER have, in my entire life, since going gluten free. I said to my doctor the other day, "I just can't figure out why anyone would NOT go totally gluten free if they were... -
it can take a few weeks to notice any considerable healing, but usually you will notice some changes almost immediately. Like the cloud of noxious gas is gone within a day or so. I don't have DH so I can't really comment on that, but you may want to make sure that your soaps, lotions, shampoos and cosmetics etc are all free of gluten ingredients....

what are you eating on a daily basis? How much? How often? Feeling like crap is often caused by not eating properly, and not eating enough. I'd suggest you find a doctor who *will* test you for celiac. Not everybody has GI symptoms. However, if you are gluten free, Celiac will not show up on a blood test, and probably not on an intestinal biopsy...

I've never heard of it before, but I filled in their contact thing to find out if there are any facilities near me. -

ARCHIVED Any Other Vegan Celiacs Out There?
Reba32 replied to Evangeline's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nope, not vegan, but I love me some good eggplant lasagne! -
except possibly starvation!

I'm a low-carber as well as gluten free, so breakfast for me usually is either left overs, or something with flax meal. Flax meal is great. Low carb, good for you, and high fibre. One of my fave breakfasts is hot pumpkin "cereal" 2 tbspns ricotta cheese 1 egg 2 tbspns canned pumpkin (not pie mix!) whisk in a small sauce pan over medium heat for...

ARCHIVED Always Feel Like I Need To Eat
Reba32 replied to yogismith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
when I was doing the 8 week gluten challenge, I was starving the whole time. Plus I was bloated and constipated, so not a good mix! All the other suggestions to eat whole natural foods, and make sure you get protiens and fats are good ideas. Fats and protiens keep you satiated, and will help to stave off cravings. Don't allow yourself to get hungry... -
ARCHIVED Constipation

and sometimes you just gotta break down and take a laxative. Or two. -
ARCHIVED Certain Flours Taste Better Than Others
Reba32 replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I get coconut flour off (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) Evidently I can't say the name of a popular website that sells books and foods. It's $10 for 2 pounds. I make my own almond flour by grinding almond slivers in a coffee grinder/food processor. Almond flour is normally about $10 for 1 pound, but a bag of blanched... -
for females my first thought would be ovarian cysts or possibly blocked falopian tubes.

ARCHIVED Ringing In Ears Anyone Have This Ever And Often? What Was It?
Reba32 replied to Christina98's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
have you recently been taking a lot of analgesics? (aspirin, Tylenol etc?) or any other medications? These can cause tinnitus. As can noise damage (mine started after an AC/DC concert in 1984 ) Mine got worse recently while I was doing an 8 week gluten challenge. I'm waiting for it to stop screaming in my head, but it doesn't seem to want to go... -
ARCHIVED New And Confused
Reba32 replied to kelley3737's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
all the above adice is awesome! This website is a font of information, and really going gluten free isn't all that bad or daunting. You just have to learn to read food labels. That said, whole, natural fruits, veggies and meats don't have gluten in them. Most mainstream packaged foods will though, or they may be "cross contaminated". Your best bet... -
ARCHIVED Am Not Sure What Is Going On...
Reba32 replied to momxyz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't eat Hershey's chocolate normally, just because I dont' particularly consider it "good chocolate". However I have seen others here post that they have had reactions from eating Hershey's, and that possibly those "fun size" bars are not likely cross contaminated, even if the ingredients themselves do not contain gluten. Are you using any body... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Today, Don'T Know If I Can Stick To Diet...
Reba32 replied to Chrisco's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll second the suggestion to just go with whole natural foods for the first couple of weeks. Don't try the packaged gluten free alternatives to what you normally eat for a while, until your body has started to heal itself. Everyone is different, that may be a couple of weeks, it may be a couple of months (complete healing may never happen). I eat... -
if you're newly gluten free, you may lose weight naturally, just by not being poisoned every day. Just eat whole natural foods, not manufactured or packaged foods. Eat regularly, don't starve yourself, and get a proper balance of nutrients. Drink plenty of clear plain water as well. This will get rid of a few pounds of water weight, plus help to flush...

ARCHIVED Lindt Chocolate
Reba32 replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've found that the Choceur brand at Aldi's is pretty good. I have not had any reaction to the dark chocolate at all (and I'm pretty sensitive). There is no warning about wheat on the allergen list and I've noticed most of the Aldi foods do list wheat if there is possibility of cross contamination. I don't eat milk chocolate (too much sugar) so I haven...
