  1. the GI doc I went to said I probably don't have celiac because I never have diarreah. I'm always constipated. My blood test was 99% positive, and the endoscopy showed atrophy. Showed her didn't I? Why they're so stuck on diarreah as the be-all-end all sypmtom of Celiac boggles me! Not everyone gets diarreah! I have been having a problem...
  2. I'm not doing the "Paleo" diet specifically, but Atkins, which is anthropologically speaking, pretty close! By starting Atkins is how I figured out I had Celiac, the first phases of Atkins you give up grains entirely for a few weeks. I felt so much better almost immediately! My celiac causes constipation rather than diarreah, and within probably a...
  3. rice flour (and rice) is extremely high carb. almond flour - net carbs = 3 per ounce (approx. 2 tbsp) coconut flour - net carbs = 4 per ounce rice flour - net carbs = 14 per ounce If you're low carbing to try and lose weight, rice flour won't help.
  4. If you get up early enough (like 5 minutes earlier than usual) I have an awesome recipe for a hot breakfast that really doesn't take too long to cook per serving: 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese 1 large egg 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin (plain pumpkin, not pie filling!) stir these ingredients over low heat for about 2 minutes, then add: 1...
  5. it is SO EASY to be vegetarian and gluten free! Broccoli doesn't have gluten. Nor do eggs. Or lettuce. Or spaghetti squash. Or tomato sauce. Do you eat fish? no gluten there. You don't have to use the expensive manufactured and packaged gluten free alternatives. Go for whole, natural foods as Mother Nature intended. If you feel like baking...
  6. could you call ahead and ask what they feed the horses? I can't imagine how difficult this would be with children. I'm an adult and can't get my husband to understand why I want to change the dog's food! He thinks I'm over-reacting. But she slobbers all over me. Gotta love Saint Bernards.
  7. CGally, what brand of L-Glutamine do you use? And do you use tablets or powder drink mix? Vitacost.com has diet and sport aids on special, and there are a few options for L-Glutamine. I couldn't find any locally, but I think I might like to try it and keep it around in case of future glutenings. Are there other benefits to using it? I'm a lot carb...
  8. The website that has the pizza recipe is a wonderful woman who collects all of those. She's a low carb-er, so a lot of the recipes on the site are grain free. I got a lot of recipes from the Atkins website too. The first phases are all grain free, so naturally gluten free. Here's a good hamburger bun. I quite like a nice bacon and tomato sammich...
  9. have you been tested for Celiac? You may have an entirely separate allergy/intolerance to eggs. Be careful with the low carb the way you're doing it. You're not getting enough nutrients by not including enough vegetables, which is making you lethargic and is making you crave and binge. If you properly balance your meals with fats, protiens, and controlled...
  10. I stick to low carb flours like almond and coconut for baked goods, and soy flour for stuff like pancakes and waffles.
  11. I use coconut flour rather than pre-made mixes. Open Original Shared Link
  12. I use xanthan gum as a thickener, it works very well.
  13. One - Celiac disease is NOT an allergy. Two - If you have been gluten free for so many years, Celiac disease *will not* show up on a blood test!
  14. if you already have a positive blood test, I don't know why you'd need a biopsy as well. I did both, only because the stoopid GI I went to didn't bother to tell me about the positive blood test before she scheduled the endoscopy (they would never return any phone calls when I called to ask for results). All a GI will do for you is take your money IMO...
  15. to answer your orginal question, as I did before "how to avoid this in future" is to get your own drinks. Talk to the bartender yourself. If you're avoiding HFCS and caffiene, then have club soda. Sure, it's nice to be included, but not at the expense of your health. If you don't know about alcohol, then ASK. Don't leave it to chance.
  16. best way to avoid emotional eating is to not be hungry. Eat regular meals, plus snacks. Get in enough fats and protiens to keep you satieted. Eat whole, natural foods as close to how Mother Nature made 'em, rather than packaged manufactured foods. Packaged and manufactured foods, whether gluten free or not, will only contribute to ill health. Whole foods...
  17. I had symptoms before, I just had them for so long I figured I always felt like crap because it was normal! After going gluten free and I felt so much better, it was easy to know when I'd been glutened!
  18. Pizza is easy! Open Original Shared Link For baking sweets, I use either coconut flour, or almond flour. For the almond flour, instead of spending $10 on 1 lb on Bob's Red mill, I buy a bag of blanched almonds and then grind them in the coffee grinder myself. Cost is about $3.50. Coconut flour is $10 for 2 pounds on (Company Name Removed - They Spammed...
  19. Has anyone experienced Welbutrin to increase or decrease any of these symptoms from either list or thyroid condition? Wellbutrin can cause jitters if you take them without food. This will add to any jitters you may have from hyperthyroid Do you know if smoking can affect the symptoms? smoking will increase ANY symptoms of ANYthing. You're robbing...
  20. why do you feel the need to drink alcohol at all? You're not in highschool anymore, if you don't want to drink, don't. If you don't like the sugar in soda, get diet. Every bar has diet coke. Or you could just get club soda with a wedge of lemon. In future, get your own drinks. That way you can ensure you won't be inadvertently glutened. I'm sure...
  21. the past few years with all the crap coming out of China, would you really trust *anything* from there, with or without MSG? It'll probably have antifreeze in it anyway.
  22. my Dad used to try to get me to drink juices that he'd make with wheat grass in them. I said "Dad if I want grass, I'll go munch on the lawn!"
  23. bacon wouldn't typically have gluten ingredients no. The ingredietns to watch for would be the same as in any other product. Anything that says wheat, barley or rye, or things derived from wheat barley or rye. You might want to be careful of back bacon if it is coated in corn meal. Not because corn meal is gluten, but it may be processed in a facility...
  24. I've used it and had no problem other than the price! I switched to Hodgson's Mill when my local grocery store started stocking it. It's about $2 less than Bob's.
  25. it may just be the peppermint. I know a lot of people don't like peppermint toothpaste because it bothers them. Try a different flavour, or milder mint.
