Hormel Naturals sliced meats are gluten free as well. If you're in the US, I can usually find them at Walmart for about $2.50 per pack. Other stores range anywhere from 2.99 to 5.99! (some stores just price themselves right out of business don't they?) I usually make myself some nice snacks with sliced meats, pickle spears and some cheese roll it up...

ARCHIVED Does Gluten Damage Before Onset Of Symptoms?
Reba32 replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that even if you do not experience any gastric distress type symptoms that if you have outright Celiac disease the damage is still being done. That's the definition of Celiac Disease. An auto-immune response to eating gluten that causes the villi of the small intestine to atrophy. If you don't have Celiac disease, then you likely do not have intestinal... -
ARCHIVED Best Book About Gluten-Free Living?
Reba32 replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have the Dummie's book, haven't finished reading it yet, but I like it. I also have the Idiot's Guide book, and although it's informative, I don't like the fact that it's written by a non-Celiac. She's not even intolerant, she was just asked to go gluten free to write the book. So really she has No Clue how difficult it is to be intolerant or Celiac... -
'Becca, it sounds as though you're not getting a properly balanced diet, and/or you're still being glutened somewhere, either by cross contamination, or something you're eating regularly has gluten in it. I will agree with the others and say that in the early weeks/months of going gluten free, you should stick to a natural, whole foods diet. No packaged...

that is very cool. I normally don't order those things though because they're full of refined sugars and transfats. Both of which I avoid just as much as gluten!

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Be Able To Have A Relationship?
Reba32 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
maybe e-harmony needs to add a dating service specifically for Celiacs? Jason, your health issues can be overcome, and I do believe that with the right person, a relationship is more than possible, even probable. But you're right, people will be attracted to other people who *feel* attractive. If you're feeling like crap and down on yourself... -
ARCHIVED Starting Over Gluten Free
Reba32 replied to imsohungry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
remember, just because you don't have diagnosed Celiac, doesn't mean you're not gluten intolerant. Had you continued on eating gluten, it is entirely possible that you could become Celiac if you are gluten intolerant. I have read in many places that Celiac is just gluten intolerance gone horribly wrong. You'll be back into the swing of things in no... -
I don't think it's the latex I have a problem with, I think it's the actual glue on the bandages and tapes. A LOT of places lately are using hypoallergenic tapes and band-aids, I rarely need to ask for them now. I used to carry my own with me in my purse, now I don't. If I didn't have a bandaid whenever I had a cut I used to use gauze mostly, and...

ARCHIVED Ketchup Problems
Reba32 replied to 4berrys's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Heinz no sugar added ketchup. It's made with sucralose (Splenda) instead of sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Here in the States, it is VERY difficult to find ketchup without HFCS in it. Or anything for that matter. It's just crazy. -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Wait Time In Ontario
Reba32 replied to Smoly's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have no idea how long wait times are in Ontario but it is not recommended to go gluten free until you've had the biopsy and blood tests. Even a week or 2 off gluten can skew the tests in the negative. There are ways to work the system though. If you already have an appointment set up for months in advance, just call the office and ask to be put on... -
Well, I'm quite positive I've had Celiac/been gluten intolerant pretty much my entire life, and was always just misdiagnosed up until I figured it out myself. I had done elimination diets several times trying to figure out what was wrong, since I was probably 4 years old, but never gave up wheat, barley and rye all together like I did when I started...

ARCHIVED If You Have Surgery
Reba32 replied to plantime's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
well sure, but who wants to have bloated pain in the guts when you've got a breathing tube down your throat and food tube down your nose? ICK! I thought of that over the holidays when my Mum was in ICU on a ventilator. They put that liquid food in her and I read the label and said "gee, this stuff would kill me, Mum you're lucky you're not Celiac!... -
I had a couple hand lotions that had wheat germ oil in them, so I gave them to a friend. I have a habit of sticking my fingers in my mouth, or resting my face on my hand, with my hands near my mouth, so I was sure I was getting glutened from the lotions. My shampoo and conditioner had wheat in it, so I tossed those out. I had a box of hair dye that had...

ARCHIVED How To Handle Being A gluten-free Wedding Guest
Reba32 replied to GFLindsey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would either tell the bride & groom, or ask them for the caterer's contact info and arrange my meal myself. There's no reason to go hungry. Caterers are more than savvy with food safety and preparation, and if they're any good, should probably know more about gluten free than the average gastroenterologist Honestly, I used to do the planning... -
I had a twitch that lasted nearly 3 weeks last year, it drove me NUTZ! Reduce your stress, get more sleep, make sure you're eating a balanced diet and getting all your vitimins and minerals, and that's about all you can do. I'd suggest you have a rather full plate, and that is likely a major contributor to stress.

ARCHIVED Tricks To Staying Gluten Free In The Economy?
Reba32 replied to columbakss's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have an Aldi store near you? Good food, for A LOT less than other grocery stores! A LOT less! Salad greens, fresh fruits and veggies, fresh meats, frozen meats, frozen veg and berries are cheaper than fresh veg. And probably fresher too! I rarely eat packaged or manufactured foods, gluten free or not. I eat whole natural foods 90% of the... -
Atkins has a new book out this week called "The New Atkins for a New You". It's an easy read, and has lots of info on the science of how the plan works. Even if you don't have to lose weight, following an Atkins whole foods plan just for general good health, and it can even help with a gluten free diet, because it is naturally gluten free until you get...

what are the "good foods" you've been eating? And how much? And when? I've learned a lot about food in the past year and a half or so, and how it can impact your body. Not just gluten and Celiac disease, but how we *need* fat in our diet, and how we *don't* need all the carbs all the food pyramids say we do! And how evil sugars are. And how eating...

ARCHIVED Organic Options?
Reba32 replied to StephanieL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
whole natural foods can be both organic and gluten free. Broccoli, lettuce, carrots, green peppers, beef, chicken, apples, strawberries, etc etc etc... You don't have to eat packaged gluten free foods to be gluten free. Mother Nature made a whole bunch of stuff already! -
if you're Celiac with fibro, then following the gluten free diet will get rid of some of the fibro symptoms as well. I was diagnosed with fibro first, (in 1993) and no drugs ever worked long term. So I'd have 6 week scripts and then go off them, then try something else. Then when I started the Atkins diet (which is naturally gluten free for the early...

I'm diagnosed Celiac and my right pinky is slightly above the knuckle, and my left pinky is right at the knuckle.
