ARCHIVED What To Expect After Gluten Free Diet
Reba32 replied to undiagnosedillness's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'll second that! The colon is not the small intestine, and the small intestine is where Celiac damage is caused. I'd find a new doctor When I went gluten free I noticed a difference pretty much immediately with no bloating when I ate, and the noxious gas went away after a day or 2. The constipation took a few days to clear of course, and a... -
most definitely, I would love a nice bottle of beer! That's about all I really miss. The gluten free beer here in Canada is just way too expensive

ARCHIVED Hartz Flea Shampoo For Dogs
Reba32 replied to starrytrekchic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a heckuva time finding a pet shampoo that didn't have wheat in the ingredients, or that had ingredients listed. We finally did find one at Pet Valu, it's called Tearless Shampoo for Puppies, Kittens and Sensitive Pets. It smells good too. Of course the dog promptly went outside to try and find something dead to roll in... -
ARCHIVED What To Do When People Dont Listen?
Reba32 replied to hh73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeap, they either get it or they don't. I've tried to explain to family that I can't have even a single crumb of bread to touch my food, and then they'll serve lunch and put the gluten free bread and the "regular" bread in the same dang basket! And stick the crumb filled butter dish in front of me and then ask why I'm not eating. hmph... So,... -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain On Gluten Free Diet
Reba32 replied to sluct's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A whole, natural foods diet with properly balanced healthy fats, protiens and low-ish carbs is the healthiest (and biologically "normal") diet there is. It's how our ancestors ate before they started refining sugar and grains. Check out the new Atkins. There's a new book, it's easier to follow, and there's lots more foods on the list you can eat, even... -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Muffins! - It's Fall! - Scd Legal!
Reba32 replied to ShayFL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make my own almond flour at less than 1/3 the cost. Just buy whole alonds and grind them in a coffee grinder. Any nut flour would likely work though, or any gluten free bake mix. -
ARCHIVED Vertigo And Gluten Connection
Reba32 replied to glutengal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had unexplained vertigo for a while, and it went away when I started the Atkins diet (which in the first phases is gluten free). I did a gluten challenge for 8 weeks last fall, and within less than a week, the vertigo was back. After my diagnosis and going back to gluten free, the vertigo is gone again. -
I have never been to a naturopath, but you could try at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, they have a clinic, and they may also have a listing of practitioners in the city. Open Original Shared Link

have you tried nut flours, or seed flours as egg replacements? Like almond, or buckwheat? -
ARCHIVED Depressed Over Celiac, Need Help!
Reba32 replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Easiest way to do it is just eat whole natural foods. I don't buy all those pre-made, packaged and manufactured gluten free foods or breads. The only time I do is when someone is coming over for a meal and I get them gluten free stuff rather than have them contaminate my kitchen with gluteny foods! And whole natural foods are so much more healthy than... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For 6 Years- Retest Came Back Negative
Reba32 replied to Manda Herndon's topic in Doctors
You have Celiac disease. Eating wheat is not part of a healthy diet for you. And I would even argue that it is not needed by the general population either. It is more than possible to have a "healthy diet" that does not contain grains. -
ARCHIVED Need A Really Awesome Cookie Recipe!
Reba32 replied to mommyto3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've made chocolate chip cookies with a mixture of almond meal and soya powder. If you can tolerate soya, try these ones, they're yummy (I'm also a low carber, and sugar free, as well as gluten-free) I modified this recipe that I found on a primal diet website. I didn't have almond flour, only almond meal, so I had to also use soya powder. 1 1/... -
Unfortunately for some of your symptoms, there really is nothing to do for them but wait it out For the nausea and diarrhea you can try Pepto or something similar (I can't use it because I get constipation, and Pepto is a binder!) Some have said they have some relief of the intestinal pains by taking L-Glutamine supplements. I tried them and never...

ARCHIVED Buckwheat, Butter, Honey, Thyroid
Reba32 replied to elk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
have you tried flax meal as a non-grain cereal replacement? If you can tolerate eggs and dairy, here's an easy recipe for a wonderful hot "cereal" in a small sauce pan on medium heat: 2 tablespoons ricotta cheese whisk in 1 to 2 tablespoons water if the cheese is "dry" whisk in 1 large egg, whisk while cooking for a couple of minutes 2 or ... -
ARCHIVED Suggestion For Dinner Out With The Family
Reba32 replied to MelindaLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Personally I stear clear of all buffets, because there is just too much risk of cross contamination. Tongs from one bin get moved to another, bread rolls fall off of plates into the lettuce etc etc etc... If the buffet place also has a regular menu, call ahead and find out if they can accomdate your requirements. If they can't, then eat beforehand and... -
what, and how much, have you been eating since you went gluten-free? Are you also drinking enough water to flush your system? If you're not eating enough calories, or if you're eating mostly packaged/manufactured foods, rather than whole natural foods, you'll feel sluggish. It'll take some time for your body to heal, and everyone is different. But...

ARCHIVED Always Hungry, Always Eating And Still Lossing?
Reba32 replied to skgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I will second the suggestion to go with low(er) carb options, and higher fat and protien servings than you're probably getting now. Fat and protien will keep you satisfied, and won't burn off as quickly as high carb options. I would also suggest that you have your thyroid checked. With Celiac disease we can also collect other auto-immune diseases, Grave... -

ARCHIVED Coping With Watching Others Eat
Reba32 replied to BrownEyedGirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only thing that bothered me was my lazy (now ex) husband wouldn't be bothered to wipe the counters after himself after he got crumbs everywhere. I've been glutened a few times. But seeing and smelling the food itself doesn't bother me in the least. I remember the pain and bloating and pain and can't even fathom wanting that ever again. There are... -
I would take my own dishes (as an amature environmentalist, I cringe at the thought of using disposable! I would definitely take re-usable picnic plastics!) and cookware, and I would dedicate a portion of the kitchen as entirely gluten free. With tape even if necessary! As for dick head cousin, I'd take a copy or 2 of the Celiac brochure that tells about...

ARCHIVED I'm So Careful. But All This... Bah.
Reba32 replied to Lycopene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
why not just get the cat some gluten free food? Cats are carnivorous anyway, why would she need wheat, barley or rye in her food? Open Original Shared Link -
what do you eat that is causing the discomfort? It is not likely everything and more likely something that you are eating regularly that you are intolerant to. I see in your sig that you have diagnosed several food intolerances, perhaps there are more that are just not diagnosed yet? Is there any one thing that you injest every day or almost every day...

I suppose as diseases go, once it's diagnosed Celiac is fairly easy to deal with, and once "treated" with a gluten free diet, one can live a better, and healthier life. Though even if you do end up with another "negative" blood and biopsy, it is still possible to be gluten intolerant without actually having Celiac. But going gluten free will still help...
