  1. I think overall, Celiac is increasing everywhere because of the increase in GMO wheat. It's just more gluteny now than Nature intended. I haven't had a chance to buy the book "Wheat Belly" yet, but maybe there's info in that book about some studies? The author has a blog as well Open Original Shared Link Plus, there's a book called "The Gluten Connection...
  2. if it makes you feel any better, not everyone with Grave's ends up needing the radio active iodine treatment. I didn't. Mine went into full remission after 18 months on methimazole. It's rare, but it does happen!
  3. I would suggest that your husband go for Celiac panel and endoscopy w/biopsy as well. If his dx currently is IBS, this could strongly suggest Celiac disease (probably most of us here were earlier mis-diagnosed with IBS prior to Celiac dx.) And if his Mother has RA, then there could well be a genetic pre-disposition to auto-immune diseases. Auto-immune...
  4. I am quite happy that the noxious gas problems are all gone
  5. I haven't had an MS workup, but I have been tested for several other auto-immune disease like lupus, sjogren's and systemic sclerosis/scleroderma. I'm waiting to see my doctor again next week. I have those same symptoms, as well as constant vertigo and tinnitus, cognitive dis-function, all over pain and weakness and etc etc ad nauseum. I've so far seen...

    ARCHIVED Magnesium

magnesium is a relaxant. It can help with the twitches, but too much can cause diarrhea, so be careful. Potassium can also help with the twitches. Half an avocado should help.
  7. if canned beans are "safe" I can't imagine why fresh beans wouldn't also be safe! Plus, fresh beans are, well, fresh! They actually have vitamins and stuff in them still. Like Sylvia suggested. This might be a good time to learn how to cook
  8. I make crustless pumpkin pie all the time, I actually prefer it that way now
  9. Canadian Thanksgiving is this coming weekend, so nope, it's not too early! There are gluten free graham crackers and graham crumbs, I've seen them in health food stores, and gluten free stores. I made s'mores with them when I went camping this summer, they were yummy I was thinking of trying to make some dinner rolls this year, but I dunno if...
  10. have you tried looking thru the MS Society websites?
  11. I had Grave's Disease (in remission now for 2+ years) and your symptoms are all the same as mine, plus I had extreme aversion to heat, and would sweat even if the temp was cold to everybody else around me. I was standing in front of the A/C in February! Get to the doctor quick for those tests, Grave's and hyperthyroid can be quite dangerous, and with your...
  12. I've used the coconut flour pastry recipe in the Cooking with Coconut Flour cookbook, it's a bit tricky, but it made really good strawberry rhubarb pie!
  13. there are quite a few auto-immune diseases that could cause similar symptoms, some of them will have similar blood markers, and will be difficult for a PA to diagnose. Initial blood work that you could do would be to check thyroid levels, ANA, and RF, and to have some x-rays to look for bone deformation. Even on-going gluten contamination could cause your...
  14. Hashimoto's is an auto-immune disease just like Celiac is. It is very common for people to develop more than one auto-immune disease.
  15. not to mention that making decisions about munchies when you're high on hallucinogens isn't very likely!
  16. binging on junk foods that are high in carbohydrates will just make you crave more high carbohydrate foods. The sugar high, then sudden crash is what does it. If you regulate your blood sugar levels though with a balanced and healthy diet, you can manage, and even eliminate, sugar cravings. Even if you don't have diabetes or pre-diabetes, you get yourself...
  17. You might also want to ask your doctor to test your thyroid levels to check for Grave's Disease. Grave's is an auto-immune disease that kicks the thyroid into hyperdrive. Hyper thyroid will cause you to feel constantly hungry, no matter what or how much you eat. If your thyroid is not the issue, or even if it is, I will second the suggestion above by...
  18. the trick to fiber is to also ensure you are getting plenty of water. Fiber doesn't work properly without water. Especially if you're eating flax, or psyllium to try to keep yourself regular. 2 to 3 litres of water per day should help (coffee & tea can be counted in this, but not colas or artificially flavoured/sweetened drinks). High sugar fruits...
  19. your pharmacist should be able to look it up to find out what the ingredients are. I ALWAYS ask them to look up stuff. It bugs them, and makes them grumble, but it's their job and that's what they're there for. (howzat for an awesome representation of their they're and there! ) I used to have daily anxiety attacks before going gluten-free, now...
  20. have you tried a ketogenic diet to control your seizures? Open Original Shared Link
  21. Was the stand mixer you bought used? I'd be afraid of contamination. I wonder if my Mum's KA food processor could mix and knead bread? hmmm....
  22. Psoriatic arthritis can deform the bones like RA can, but it will have a negative RF result. If you have negative RF, but positive ANA, it could be any number of other auto-immunes such as lupus, sjogren's, systemic sclerosis etc etc etc... ALL of the above can cause similar symptoms of all over pain, brain fog, and malaise, but each usually has their...
  23. have you been tested for any other auto-immune diseases?
  24. if you have gluten on your wet hair when you go to sleep, and your head touches your pillow, then if your mouth touches your pillow when you roll over, then you could very well likely be getting gluten into your system. I had to eliminate gluten from *everything* in my home. Shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions, pet foods, everything.
  25. not sure what they'll be looking for on the colonoscopy, but in order for the results of biopsy from the endoscopy you MUST be eating gluten to get correct results.
