  1. somebody at the Kitchener-Waterloo chapter will have some info probably Open Original Shared Link
  2. most country's labeling laws don't allow gluten free beers to be labeled as beer because it doesn't contain barley. Not just Canada. I haven't tried the Gluten Free that's made in Ontario, I haven't seen any anywhere. My local LCBO stocks New Grist, which isn't bad really. I prefer wine or spirits now though.
  3. I buy pre-made and frozen burgers from CostCo and FreshCo. They have only one ingredient: beef. I haven't tried the M&M burgers lately, but we have bought a few things there from their gluten free list.
  4. I'm thinking of trying it with gluten free oat flour next, for even lower net carb count. I've made a few dessert loaves with oat flour, and I've tolerated it well, and I ordered a grain mill so that I can buy whole gluten free oats, and grind them myself. It'll cost about half as much that way, and I can also use the mill to grind nut flours, and bean...
  5. And make a gluten free, or crustless pumpkin pie! Thanksgiving just ain't the same without pumpkin pie!
  6. Feeding a sugar imbalance with sugar isn't fixing your problem, it's just masking it temporarily. I would suggest rather stick to the diet you had, but eat smaller meals, more often. Like 5 or 6 times per day. Never skip a meal, and never go more than 6 waking hours without eating. Balance each meal with healthy fats, a moderate portion of protein, and...
  7. well, if your endoscopy is not until February, I wouldn't start back on the gluten just now, and then be in pain and miserable until then. You probably only need to start back on the gluten 6 to 8 weeks before the scope, that should be sufficient enough damage within that time for them to get an accurate reading on the biopsies.
  8. I personally stay away from buffet restaurants like the plague. There is just too much opportunity for cross-contamination, even if they do have one or two gluten free options in it. Which is unlikely. Someone really needs to start a chain of all gluten free buffets. I'm sure they'd get lots of business.
  9. I'll also suggest a heating pad or hot water bottle to your honeymoon pain reliever kit. I wouldn't suggest eating the cake at your wedding, or anything else with gluten in it. You've been off gluten for a while by then, and you will definitely have a more noticeable reaction than you have in the past before going gluten-free. You can bet on it. Why...
  10. nope, I can't say that there is anything on this entire planet that I would just have to eat, and then suffer the agonizing pain for days or weeks afterward. Nope Nope Nope.
  11. I'm not in the UK so don't know much about the NHS the gluten challenge can be incredibly painful, but in the long run may be beneficial to you, for reasons that navigator above has run into. If you have a definitive diagnosis, and you get sick and need time off work, it's easier for you, and more difficult for an employer to give you a hard time about...
  12. I just took a cursory look at their website, and it seems to be sort of the same as the Paleo diet. Whole, natural, and biologically compatible foods for our body. Personally, I started on the Atkins diet in 2008, and that's how I found out I had Celiac disease. The first phases of Atkins you totally eliminate all grains, and I felt sooooooo much better...
  13. yep, when I went in for my annual, they took 8 vials, and then a week later took 3 more! I'm going back today to talk to her again, and they'll probably take more.
  14. I don't think a colonic would be necessary, rather just add some pro-biotics to your diet, both in supplement form, and in cultured yogurt (full fat, plain and unsweetened, if you can tolerate dairy) to balance the bacteria in your gut. Also, some extra fiber and water in your diet can help to flush out pretty much everything. And avoid natural foods high...
  15. a lot of times PCPs/GPs will only run the TSH and not check the T3 and T4 levels. But by only running the TSH, they're not getting the whole picture obviously. I had the problem that when they looked at my TSH and saw that it was (dangerously) low, my PA said "oh well, your TSH is really low, so you're hypOthyroid, you must be freezing all the time!" I...
  16. mixing the flax or chia with water prior to adding to the dough will make either act as a substitute for eggs (for vegan or egg intolerant foodies). Both of these seeds will become gummy, with the consistency of an egg, when you let sit for a while in water. No, neither will lose their nutritional value when you do this. I made this bread last Friday...
  17. someone a few posts back asked about subbing flax meal in the recipe and should/could the number of eggs be reduced. You can make a "flax egg" with 1 tbsp of flax meal and 3 tbsp of hot water, leave to soak about 5 to 10 minutes. You can also use the same amounts for a "chia egg" with chia seeds. Both of those mixtures will replace 1 egg in a recipe...
  18. actually, the "U" symbol on food products means that it is certified Kosher
  19. I like cooking with coconut flour for a lot of different things. Can you use soy? To save money (almond flour and coconut flour are expensive!) I sometimes use a mix of nut flour and soy powder. You have to play around with recipes a lot though, so I hope you're adventurous in the kitchen!
  20. were you ever referred to a Rheumatologist to gt a proper diagnosis of the "rare auto-immune disease" with the rash? There are a few that can cause rash and your other symptoms that you describe that may not be attributed to your thyroid at all.
  21. It is not uncommon at all for someone to have more than one auto-immune disease, and there is no rule whatsoever about what order they'll attack you. If you are having Lupus symptoms, your doctor would also likely be testing for other auto-immune disease that have similar symptoms, like Sjogren's, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, etc...
  22. Yes, I'm experiencing much the same thing, but I have increasing dizziness on-going for the past 10 months or so. I've seen 2 ENTs and neither one of them have even the slightest inkling of what's wrong with me. They just keep sending me for more tests. There's nothing wrong with my inner ears, no infection, no evidence of damage at all. I am convinced...
  23. I like it with some lemon juice, olive oil and fresh mint over a salad with some roasted chick peas and pine nuts Try this recipe 1 540-ml can chickpeas, rinsed and drained 3 tbsp olive oil, divided 1 tsp brown sugar (I omitted this, I don't use sugar, even in small amounts, it's quite nice without it) 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp...
  24. I was told that the chance of remission is 25%, and the chance of recurrence after remission is 75%.
  25. I was tested for lupus, sjogren's and systemic sclerosis/scleroderma a couple of weeks ago. Initial blood work showed worrying levels of ANAs, and she said "I think you have lupus, I hope you don't, but I think so". So she took more blood and urine samples, and now she hasn't called back (she's rather annoying that way) so I have no clue what is going on...
