  1. talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose of your thyroid meds. It sounds like you may be on too high a dose and it's kicked your thyroid into hyper, which will make you feel anxious and panicky and will make your heart race with little to no exertion. And check with the pharmacist to make sure your meds are gltuen free. I think I recall someone...
  2. what were you eating typically after you went gluten free? You likely also have other intolerances, or you've overtaxed your digestive system with something while its trying to heal.
  3. I'd second the suggestion to try a different dose of the thyroid replacement meds. A lower dose may be what you need. A high dose can kick your thyroid into hyperdrive, and this will cause panic like feelings and anxiety. It may take a while to find the correct dosage for you, but keep at it. And your doctor should have thought of this first off, rather...
  4. I'm with Skylark. Switch to water with a squeeze of lemon, or some mint leaves, or both! Stay away from the drink mix powders too, like Crystal Lite and similar. They're just garbage, and likely to upset your stomach just as much. although, I do know people who drink vinegar (at the suggestion of "nutritionists" or "naturopaths" and when their stomach...
  5. have you been tested for other auto-immune diseases? You said you get a skin rash, but if you're gluten free, it is unlikely to be dermatitis herpetiformis, unless you're still using topical products (soap, shampoo, lotions etc) that contain gluten. Have they taken a biopsy of the rash to confirm that it is DH? Extreme fatigue can be from a lot of...
  6. I'm a big proponent of chiropractic and massage care, even acupuncture! and would love to go for regular treatments if I had the money to do so! Which I don't, so I ache.
  7. peanuts can cause gas. If you're now eating a whole foods, natural diet, with few carbohydrates, it's not uncommon to lose weight. It's called "Atkins" in some circles Just make sure you're eating a well balanced diet of healthy fats, proteins, and gluten free carbs. Which is sounds like you are. If you don't want to lose weight, add some more...
  8. I don't think just intolerance shows up on intestinal biopsy, only outright Celiac disease does. I think the only way to dx intolerance is to find out how the elimination diet works for you. If you feel better on a gluten free diet, and you have no markers in your blood and biopsy is negative, then you're likely intolerant, but not Celiac. But if you have...
  9. wow Bonnie, it sounds like a rough road ahead! I had no idea they could build a stomach out of intestines Best healing thoughts and prayers to you, and wishes for a speedy recovery. {{{hugs}}} and if I were you, I'd think about suing the doctors that told you it's all in your head. Had they taken you seriously, it's possible there would have...
  10. Personally, I'd suggest ensuring that lip balm/gloss/stick, hand soaps, body lotions, shampoos, conditioners, and face cleansers and lotions are gluten free. When I was first diagnosed I tossed out all my cosmetics, and read the ingredients on everything else. I had hand lotions that had wheat germ in them, and I had been using them, and then lean my chin...
  11. I didn't give up dairy, but I don't generally drink milk as a beverage, only cream in my coffee, and I eat full fat yogurt almost daily (I make my own) and sugar free ice-cream occasionally. If I want a drink of milk, or for cereal (which is rare!) I use unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk. Your best bet for now while you're healing is to stick...
  12. but when you're sitting in a GI's office and they're telling you all sorts of wrong information about Celiac, or telling you you don't have Celiac even if you feel better not consuming gluten, so go ahead eat it anyway, there's just something inherently wrong with that! It's really very frustrating when you just want answers and you go to the people...
  13. Did you have an endoscopy? Was any hiatal hernia discovered? Hiatal hernia is when a part of the stomach is pushed into the diaphragm. Do you get hiccups too? I had terrible heart burn before my Celiac was dx'd, but now that I'm gluten free, my heart burn is entirely gone. I have a hiatal hernia too, discovered only when I had my endoscopy, and bubbly...
  14. when you're initially going gluten free, I think it's best to stick with whole natural foods, rather than just manufactured substitutes for manufactured gluteny foods. Go with the foods that Nature made gluten free. Stick with the outside aisles at the grocery store, just plain fresh vegetables, fruits, meats, fish. Plain frozen fruits and vegetables are...
  15. vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. If your son (or anyone for that matter) does not have an adequate intake of healthy fats in his diet, vitamin D cannot be metabolized properly, regardless of the dosage he takes. The current government suggestions for a low fat high carb diet are all backwards, and leaves most people deficient in fat soluble vitamins...
  16. I had the endoscopy (with incredibly painful gluten challenge for 8 weeks prior) so that my husband would quit bugging me, so that my employer would know I have a definitive diagnosis, and to see what the extent of the damage was. My husband (we're since divorced) wouldn't believe me that I had Celiac disease, despite how sick I got when I ate anything with...
  17. #1 What did your abdominal pain feel like and where was it primarily located, constant or intermittent? And what % has it improved, if at all after being gluten free, and time frame to get their?? My pain was all through my middle, shooting up and down and across. After a while though, the intestines became so inflamed that it was just a constant dull...
  18. well, I think we all know that wheat alone isn't the only problem for people with Celiac disease. We also have to eliminate barley, rye and most oats as well. If you don't eliminate all of those grains, then you're not "gluten free" at all, only wheat free. So, when you first eliminated wheat only, and still were unwell, that's no surprise at all. When...
  19. Contrary to the popular belief that it's fat and eggs that cause high cholesterol, cholesterol numbers out of whack are most common in people whose diet consists of mostly starchy and white carbohydrates and too much sugars. If you reduce the amount of white, starchy, and sugary carbohydrates, (so ditch the manufactured and packaged gluten-free frankenfoods...
  20. I've been strictly gluten free for nearly 2 years now, and the persistent vertigo appeared well after I'd gone gluten-free. I even recently had blood tests done, and there is no evidence that I am ingesting gluten at all, so it's not cc. (my GP didn't believe me that I strictly adhere to a gluten-free diet, and have never cheated since diagnosis. She was...
  21. I'd suggest that if there was actually visible blunting of the villi, but negative biopsy, that the GI took the biopsy from the wrong spot, and likely not enough biopsies. Which unfortunately seems to be common. I'll go along with the others and say if there's visible blunting, and you feel better on a gluten-free diet, welcome to the club! Though...
  22. Open Original Shared Link allergy vs. intolerance
  23. I made sure that the candies we gave out were gluten free and nut free. Too bad they don't make sugar free candy for Halloween, I'd give that out.
  24. I put 2 tablespoons of plain pumpkin mash (fresh or canned, but NOT pumpkin pie mix), 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice, 4 oz of coconut milk, some shaved ice (my blender doesn't crush ice at all!) and 1/2 tsp of sweetener of some sort. Mix it in the blender and enjoy
