ARCHIVED Udi's Bread
Nor-TX replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Udi bagels are the bbbbbeeeessstttt. I grew up in Toronto Canada where bagels have been taken to the highest degrees of creating art. These Udi bagels are the closest thing I have found to Toronto bagels. Even when I used to eat regular bagels from Einsteins or other bakeries they didn't measure up. These bagels are wonderful. I like them toasted with... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Commit To Gluten Free Without Some Sweets!
Nor-TX replied to ohitsonlynicole's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Welch's Fruit Snacks are gluten-free and fat free. When I want something sweet after dinner I have some Turtle Mountain gluten-free and dairy free icecream. The flaor - cookie dough is gluten-free and dairy free, casein free and parve... It is very very yummy over a Betty Crocker brownie popped in the microwave for a few seconds. Even my DH loves them... -
I have just heard about this non-dairy guten free cheese product. It is carried at Whole Foods and is a bit pricey. I was wondering if anyone had tried it and what you thought of it. I am dreaming of some quinoa pasta mixed with non-dairy margarine and stringy cheese....*sigh*

ARCHIVED Redbridge Beer Is At Yankee Stadium
Nor-TX replied to killernj13's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thank goodness for this beer. Especially with Memorial Day and BBQ coming up. I do find it has to be icy cold and right from the bottle for the best taste. When I pour it into a frosty mug and the mug warms up it doesn't taste as good. I don't drink alot of beer, but with wings, ribs or my gluten-free burger on a Udi bagel it is great! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Consider Opening A gluten-free Bakery?
Nor-TX replied to mznia504's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I live in a suburb outside of Dallas Texas and to my knowledge there is no gluten free bakery or restaurant. Has anyone heard of one around here? -
ARCHIVED Question About 'cheese Puffs'
Nor-TX replied to RelentlessX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I recently found a great cheese/type of snack. They are called Chester's Snacks - right beside Cheetos. The butter flavored corn puffs are gluten free, Casein and Lactose free, onion free and Parve meaning they have no dairy. Be forewarned though, you may need to purchase more than one bag because they literally melt in your mouth the way cheese puffs... -
ARCHIVED Potato Chips
Nor-TX replied to BackTalk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For those who need gluten free and dairy free, try a bag of Chester's Snacks - Butter Flavored Puffcorn by Cheetos. They are gluten free, casein free, lactose free and onion free. I must let you know though, eating a full bag will still give you some powerful heartburn! -
I just made those rice paper wrappers this past weekend. They are simple and delicious. I filled them with a mixture of sauteed thinly sliced mushrooms and chopped cooked shrimp that I sauteed in dairy free margarine. I added in cooked sticky rice and some sweet chili sauce and hot Chinese mustard. When I added the rice mixture to each wrap, I topped...

ARCHIVED New Places To Buy Gluten Free Food
Nor-TX replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our Walmart supermarket is being renovated and I noticed a small section devoted to gluten free items. Granted, most of them I don't buy - cookies, crackers, flour, but they did have the Glutino pretzels. So this is definitely a step in the right direction. I have read that the gluten free share of the food development sector is the fastest growing one... -
ARCHIVED Fruits And Vegetables!
Nor-TX replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This weekend I tried the rice wrappers for the first time. They were a total success. I sliced some fresh mushrooms thinly and chopped some cooked shrimp and sauteed them in dairy free margarine. I added about 1 1/2 cups of sticky rice and added some gluten-free sweet chili sauce and a bit of Chinese hot mustard. I prepared the wraps one at a time by... -
ARCHIVED Potato Chips
Nor-TX replied to BackTalk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The kettle chips are absolutely yummy and totally gluten free. The flavor that I love - Honey Dijon is also Parve... meaning it has not lactose or casein. I did find though that on Friday night when my DH and I shared an entire bag... it gave me heartburn but it was still delicious. -
ARCHIVED Then Last Item With Gluten You Ate...
Nor-TX replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just last weekend the strangest thing happened again, as it happens every few weeks. We live in a development near a shopping mall. Outside the mall is a Chinese food buffet. This yummy buffet has these invisible tentacles that snake out every few Sundays and grab me out of my house, sometimes right off the sofa and drag me into the restaurant. I don... -
Kayo, I do go to a RA place for my Remicade. He is also part of Conglomerate #2. The GI approves the infusions, the RA doctor oversees them and the nurse administers them. Everyone gets a piece of the 8,000.00 Isn't life good?

I live north of DFW in the Plano area. New to the Gluten free way of living since November. Have good days and bad days. When I started this diet I thought I could sort of cheat when I wanted to, but I have definitely found that when I cheat, I am in so much pain and discomfort I now avoid gluten to the best of my ability. I teach in an elementary school...

ARCHIVED Fruits And Vegetables!
Nor-TX replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG this sounds wonderful. Ok... new thread here.... Let's have fun with this. What kind of wrappers would you make? There are some great ideas already. Here is an idea I am going to try when I pick some up. Sprouts has avocados for 3/1.00 this week. So I am going to try avocado, smoked salmon and some crumbled cooked bacon. Maybe some rotisserie shredded... -
I am going to try looking for hummus... can't handle lots of garlic. Fallafel mixes might be harder because this area may not carry them. We don't have any middle eastern stores that I am aware of. But I could do fallafel, hummus and Udi's bagels sliced thin and toasted crispy... Mmmmm

TicTax707, GI's in this city are basically in 2 huge conglomerates. Once you see one doctor in a conglomerate, you can't see another one. I burned my bridge with Conglomerate #1 when I left because the doctor told me the pain was in my head and I was causing my discomfort and would only give me 6 Asacol per day. I went to conglomerate #2 and the doctor...

I tried lactaid - even upped the dosage but it didn't help. I have found that I am also casein intolerant. So many foods say lactose free but contain casein. I am one of those unfortunate people who love dairy products (I've been known to eat a whole container of sour cream) but can no longer eat them.

I love this type of food, grew up on it in Toronto Ontario. What brand of Falafel and hummous is gluten free? Where did you get gluten-free flatbread? This is definitely a recipe I am going to try.

I came up negative on the biopsy, and the doctor refused to pursue it further. I started on a gluten free diet around November and then she refused to do blood tests until I went back to eating gluten. I refused because I was finally starting to feel better after being so sick for so long.

I am sending out "feeling good fairy dust" to everyone who is feeling yucky. It is guaranteed to be effective over the Internet, no matter what speed your connection is. It is also known to work well over the data plans on phones that connect to the Internet. It is purported to have lasting effects of euphoria and calmness on one's body and mind, as well...

ARCHIVED Cravings For Glutenous Foods?
Nor-TX replied to modifiedbeauty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A big, juicy, greasy, bacon cheeseburger, with fries with gravy, ketchup and malt vinegar; or a Harvey's hamburger and frings; or poutine; or Swiss Chalet quarter chicken white with fries; Toronto Mandarin Chinese restaurant lemon chicken and their egg rolls; Tim Horton Bavarian cream filled donuts; a pizza with extra cheese, mushrooms and anchovies...*sigh... -
I am feeling pretty good today. My past Saturday "glutening" has passed, I am in the middle of my Remicade cycle, colitis is calm, IBS is calm, it's warm and sunny in Texas and there are only 32 days left of school! Just wondering how y'all are feeling today?

ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Items That "got You"
Nor-TX replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Newgfcali, It wasn't a meal I was preparing.. we had some friends over to play games. I can't do steamed vegetables or brown rice. I have colitis, no veggies, fruits, reduced fiber. You are right about the crackers though, I have eliminated them. Thanks for the suggestions.
