ARCHIVED Fruity Pebbles Cereal
kareng replied to michelley65's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't they say gluten-free on them? I don't eat them, but I thought that was the case. -
ARCHIVED Confused
kareng replied to shialyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some of the confusion may be that sometimes we say we have an allergy. It helps people & restaurants understand the fact that a Celiac cannot have even a crumb of gluten. But there really is no " gluten allergy". If it is not Celiac, you might want to check out FODMAPS. Wheat is a high FODMAPS food so being gluten-free can relieve a lot of the symptoms... -

ARCHIVED Are There Less Expensive Ways Of Getting Tested?
kareng replied to sneaky-flute's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can get a genetic test for about $300. It will tell you if you have a possibility of having Celiac. but 30% of people have a gene for Celiac and only about 1% actually develope Celiac. so just having the gene does not mean you have Celiac. If you just want a basic Celiac panel, call Quest diagnostics and ask for the cost. Edited to add: I am talking... -

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination In Food Processes
kareng replied to Peggy-O's topic in Super Sensitive People
Exactly! I think you probably aren't super sensitive, you haven't really eliminated all the " normal" ways to get significant gluten. -

kareng replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could sub in Palm shortening or maybe Crisco plain or butter flavor? I don't know if the butter flavor has dairy or not. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination In Food Processes
kareng replied to Peggy-O's topic in Super Sensitive People
If you are really that sensitive, I am surprised you needed to ask! . Even for the majority of Celiacs that are not sensitive to " undetectable pms", a real kiss ( if you know what I mean ) could transfer gluten from one mouth to another. -
What I said has nothing to do with getting dust from horse food or flour in a bakery in your esophagus and swallowing it. I stand by what I have said and what I see from the vast majority of Celiacs on this forum and in my personal life - we are able to walk thought the world without getting " glutened". If you find you must wear a mask to walk by a...

ARCHIVED Mission Gluten Free / Wheat Free Soft Tacos
kareng replied to heliosue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry to hijack your thread. I realize you are not talking about the regular corn tortillas and chips but, I think that was what the other poster was referring to. -
i prefer to get my medical info from an actual medical or scientific Celiac researcher. I wouldn't consider a blog post by a " home economist" a reliable scientific study. I'll re- quote it here again - Open Original Shared Link "There is not yet reliable data about cross-reactivity. As for the alleged possibility that many gluten-free foods or drinks...

ARCHIVED Mission Gluten Free / Wheat Free Soft Tacos
kareng replied to heliosue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And if you read further :" No, our corn production lines are dedicated to corn products only. Wheat flour tortillas are produced on dedicated lines." And "All Mission® plants have strict food safety programs in place, including a very comprehensive Allergen Control Program." Many many of us eat Mission chips and tortillas without ill effect. Just ... -
ARCHIVED Headaches
kareng replied to blahblah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You get a headache when you go outside and walk? And they go away when you have been inside for a while? Maybe you have an allergy to something outside like pollen or grass or mold? -
Most people with an actual diagnosis of Celiac are " blood positive". We are able to go into restauruants and sit by people, who eat gluten ( assuming it isn't getting into our food, of course). Sounds like you have something more than the typical Celiac.

ARCHIVED Major <3 For Andalou Naturals
kareng replied to Serielda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You are fine. It's the Dr. That said that C. Com was endorsing a product. I thought maybe this company was using the name without permission. I asked her to link us to where she saw it. She didn't reply. So she was told to not confuse us with some other company. Not sure what that was all about..... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tomorrow for dinner, my family is having a get together and they are making fajitas. I am going to let my husband have at it with the flour tortillas, and I am bringing a frozen dinner so I don't even have to mess with it. While the family member hosting could probably cook for me OK, would rather just not mess with it and enjoy the company. -
ARCHIVED Someone Drinking Barley Beer Talking And Some Of It Falling In My Mouth
kareng replied to FallenLegacy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, the amount of gluten in a whole beer made with barley is usually pretty small. I am assuming you mean someone spit? I doubt that would bother you. As for when you will feel like eating gluten free again? That I couldn't say. I don't think a couple of drops of beer should make you not want to be gluten free. Why are you gluten free? Do you... -
ARCHIVED Buying Store Brands
kareng replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with Peter. I would check the store brand "Chex" . The ones I have seen DO NOT have the same ingredients and are not gluten-free. -

Knot sure where you live. Some of the Celiac Centers have free blood testing. You could also see if you qualify for any help? State? County? Public hospital?
