The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Buffalo Chicken lasagna came out great! 4 hours is the right amount! I cut the peppers - used 1 red & 2 green not small enough. They were still crunchy but the guys prefer them that way. -
ARCHIVED Test Or Diet First?
kareng replied to Trill's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Get a pizza! If you have a positive test, most doctors will want to do an endoscopy and, maybe a colonoscopy with it, to check the extent of the damage and for other issues. You need to keep eating gluten until the endoscopy is done. Open Original Shared Link "I stopped eating gluten right before my blood screening. Will that impact my results? To get... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Probably the same. Anything with lasagna noodles only needs about 4 hours. Maybe mine says 7 - not sure. I have a good lasagna one, too. I use half burger and half Ital turkey sausage. My food always cooks faster than the 365 Cookbook says. This is the one I use, except cook for 4 hours: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/crockpot-buffalo... -

Did you make the Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Lasagna yet? I am making it tonight. I will say that the original recipe says to cook for 6 hours on low but 4 is usually plenty. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Cutter
kareng replied to silk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe I should clarify on the new drug that is being tested. The doctors working on it say that it is not so that we can eat gluten again. It is for those times, like travel, when you must eat out and you try to get gluten-free but there might be a tiny amount of gluten. Also, it must be taken with a carbonated drink to work best. -
If its " decayed" it can't come back. Go to a dentist. Get what you can fixed so it doesn't get worse. Then take care of your mouth!

Are you kidding? This is a grown man and an almost grown daughter. Why would you be spending money on delivery for groceries? Why would a grown man act like that? More importantly, why have you tolerated this behavior for so long? Really, Julie, I worry about you. You seem like a really nice lady - maybe too nice? I think you let them walk all...

ARCHIVED Gluten Cutter
kareng replied to silk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow! I was at the International Celiac Disease Symposium in Sept. They spoke specifically about these OTC "gluten eating enyzmes". The don't work. There are some researchers developing one that is promising. If she was in a real medical study, she wouldn't have extras to give others. She would have to follow certain protocols and be seen by the researchers... -

The San Juan 7 grain is very good. Looks just like some whole wheat breads and tastes about the same. -
ARCHIVED Weird Allergic Reactions
kareng replied to EarFull's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac isn't an allergy. The runny nose right after eating sounds more like an allergy than Celiac. You do seem to have some Celiac symptoms Here are some basic symptoms of Celiac: Open Original Shared Link -

Do you have a question? Is this about Celiac or your allergies? -
It feels great to feel "normal", of course. I just want to address the title as I don't want you to have any misconceptions. Celiac is not "cured". You have it for the rest of your life. You must eat gluten-free for the rest of your life. You may feel "cured" but you can never stop treating your "illness". Unlike other chronic illnesses, the treatment...

ARCHIVED Something Is Not Quite Right.
kareng replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wouldn't worry about gluten-free foods having gluten or new silverware until she is 100% gluten free. If she is sneaking gluten 5% of the time, that is what I would eliminate. -
ARCHIVED "popcorners" Chips

I haven't tried those. I have had the triangle shaped ones made with popcorn. Tasty and all flavors gluten free. Looks like all their products are gluten-free. -
Rice Is Making Us Sick!
kareng replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
its not "big news" because it isn't a problem. I use any brand of plain that I find. I do like the different "flavors" of rice that Lundberg has sometimes. -

ARCHIVED Fast And Easy Way To Incorporate Dark Green Leafy Vegetables
kareng replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My SIL keeps it frozen. Wouldn't be tasty for a salad but she uses it for soup. I gave her a new crockpot soup recipe to use it in. And you can buy it frozen and ready to go. Do you have a crockpot? You could make up a batch of chili or a basic chicken, carrots, etc that you could freeze and combine with other things . You might think about making... -
ARCHIVED Reimagining Eating Gluten Free

Honestly, you sound like a marketing guy. If you really were a Celiac, you would have most of the answers to your odd questions. You are free to read, on this forum, about the multiple good and bad dining experiences others have had. Maybe that would give you some idea about what people who really need to eat gluten-free want. -

I buy salad spinach - the stuff that is already washed and ready to eat. It can be eaten as a salad or cooked in something with little to no chopping. I also buy the pre- shredded carrots - good for a fast salad but also nice small pieces if you want to throw them in with rice while it's cooking. Frozen veggies are good, too. I think the spinach has... -
