ARCHIVED What If A Gluten Free Diet Is Not Strictly Followed?
kareng replied to Jen39's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jen, I know you aren't going to like me very well but you need to understand some things for your health & happiness ( and kids, too) . To be really blunt...... I hope he has good life insurance already. He likely won't be able to get any without the follow-up tests showing he is following a gluten-free diet. He will likely get some other illness... -

ARCHIVED How Many Ppm In A Piece Of Cake?
kareng replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can't really wrap my brain around ppm. 1 1/2 cups of flour = 24 tablespoons. 12 servings per cake - 2 tablespoons of flour per slice. Sounds like enough to make me sick! Feeling a bit gassy just thinking about it! -
ARCHIVED Cutting Board For Travel? Brand Or Style You Like?
kareng replied to sreese68's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I use the slightly flexible cutting mats. I have never had any problem with them. I use them on the counter for a clean workspace, too. You might be able to find a clear plastic cutting board. We had one of those for awhile & they were light but thicker than the mats. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ten Days And Then Tried Oats?
kareng replied to Jen Dex S's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
About 10% of Celiacs react to gluten-free oats like they do to wheat. That is why the advice from the Celiac Centers is to not eat oats until fully healed. I have seen it recommended a year or more. Food poisoning is possible but stay off the oats for awhile. -
ARCHIVED Yellow Tongue And/or Altitude Sickness?
kareng replied to Thea-Bug's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are anemic & B12 deficient from the malabsorption, you won't handle altitudes well. -

ARCHIVED First Time Traveling & Eating Out gluten-free
kareng replied to tcmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tried to copy a letter from KikomaN, received by someone on another forum but I couldn't get it to work. They now say that the regular soy sauce is not suitable for Celiacs. They can't get a result of less than 20 ppm that they are confident in. They say that it was considered gluten-free by an old standard or test. Anyway, they are making one without... -
Anyone been here lately? We are getting one by my house. The web site says they do gluten-free but speak to the manager for the most up-to-date menu. Thanks!

I told my family about the money. My son, J, said you were getting extra for being a sign language interpreter. The rest of us thought it was a mistake. Shoes with matching handbags and chickens for all! -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Hot Sausage
kareng replied to smmeri99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It will say "wheat" I would bet they don't have any gluten if they are a good quality product. Maybe on Monday you could call them or email. Legally, they have to list the wheat in the US. -
ARCHIVED Llicking Envelopes?
kareng replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Niether Dr Oz or that other doctor are Celiac specialists. They aren't GIs or immunologists. They aren't chemists who work with glues. They have no reason to really know what its made of. They were just going on some old old info that is incorrect. I posted these earlier in this post. http://celiacdisease...nvelopeGlue.htm Answer: No, there... -
ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?
kareng replied to Nor-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Almost cried today. My big strong 18 year old son was cuddling the dog. They don't cuddle, they wrestle, usually. It just hit him yesterday that he is going far away to college and won't see the dog or his local friends until thanksgiving. I guess, seeing my kids sad makes me want to cry. -
ARCHIVED On The Subject Of Memory Problems
kareng replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Saw the part of the title about " read the other posts". I'm just dying to say, " but I forgot what they said!". Thank you. I feel better now. I was having a very hard time thinking, remembering, concentrating and finding the words I wanted. It has resolved gluten-free. I think a good portion of it for me, was the fact that I was very anemic... -

Probably the 4 letter word "chat". I have been known to purchase a non- food food product or 2. But 2 carts stacked above the cart? Forgot to mention the copious amounts of meat-like products - sausages, bacon, and more sausage. Then sausage with biscuits and cheese, etc. And paid for with food stamps. -

Em & I still have 1 left at home. Poor thing. He is becoming my only " beast of burden". Will have to do all Mom's heavy lifting and repairs. Was at the local Walmart & wanted to take a pic of this woman's cart contents. A full cart neatly stacked with boxes of processed, over salted frozen foods and cookies. Then a younger version pulled... -
ARCHIVED Cumberland Farms Chill Zone Slushies
kareng replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think the general consensus on this forum is that the frozen drinks would be safe from a gluten perspective. Full of colors and HFCS. I looked them up & they do look cooling. Is Cumberland a convience store? We use this Donvier thing to make slushies at home. Frozen Cokes or Mt Dews are favorites. You can do OJ or lemonade or Koolaid. Open... -

We leave Wed for the 680 mile trip. They just upped the speed limit most of the way to 75. I think I will need some Valium. Driving that fast! We will fill his little Toyota with his bike and whatever clothes he can squish around it. Then a major buying trip to Walmart to get all the stuff most people buy ahead. We will miss him, but I think he... -
The wok or pans at many restaurants are stainless or aluminum. They should be easily cleanable in the industrial dishwashers. Apparently, her home wok is cast iron which is porous.
