ARCHIVED gluten-free Hot Sausage
kareng replied to smmeri99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most sausages in the US are gluten-free. Not sure exactly what you are looking for. Read the ingredients. I think Killbosas (sp?) seem to have gluten listed when I looked. -
A gene test is different than the blood tests. The blood tests test for the prescence of an antibody. Your body makes them when there is gluten in your small intestines. If you are not eating gluten, you shouldn't be making these antibodies. A gene test can tell you if you have a gene that could, some time, cause Celiac. Many people have the gene but...

ARCHIVED Llicking Envelopes?
kareng replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a myth. It's gross to lick them. I always use a little piece of wet paper towel. Dr. Oz had someone on the show that wasn't any kind of expert on Celiac and he made several mistakes. here's one article Open Original Shared Link Answer: No, there is no gluten in envelope glue, according to the international Envelope Manufacturers Association... -
First - if they use flour they have to list it as an ingredient. second- You haven't told your doctor about your recent seizures. When I worked in health care in California it didn't matter what causes your seizures. You had to be seizure free for a certain amount of time. I remember a patient that had the first seizure she had ever had because of a...

ARCHIVED Time To Start Packing School Lunches Again
kareng replied to Darissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She can eat the same 10 foods over and over if that is her choice and it meets the basic nutrition rules you set. Don't fix her food. Tell her what's available. If she's hungry, she'll get something. Have a few things she likes. Works with my kids. One was a wider variety than the other. if my one eats a PB&J, apple or grapes and chocolate milk... -

kareng replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The blood tests can took about 5 days for me and a week for one of my boys. Depends where they send them. One place only runs them once a week. This is in the US. -
ARCHIVED Time To Start Packing School Lunches Again
kareng replied to Darissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She's 13 and there is no mental problem, right? Tell her she's so picky she can make her own lunch! You need to sit her down and have a really frank but loving discussion. Food issues suck but to feel good and think clearly she needs to eat a certain way. A lunch must include - 1 protein and 1 fruit or veg and no more than 1 chip and one dessert. Or... -
ARCHIVED Chewable Calcium Supplement For Kids

Viactiv chocolate taste pretty good. They are 500 mg but maybe you could cut them in half? The website says they are gluten-free. -
I don't know if it was the salami or not. I do worry that you continue to drive a car with active seizures. It is illegal in most if not all states and dangerous for the rest of us on the roads. I hope you never drive your children, either.

ARCHIVED Can't Stop Eating Gluten And Dairy! Paying The Price...
kareng replied to chrissygirlca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a couple of friends with eating disorders. Bingeing and taking laxatives, antacids, pepto, etc. You may want to see an eating disorder psychology specialist. You sound just like them. Sorry to be so blunt but I think you know you are a mess. Would be nice if your family would come to the therapy, too. The counselor will tell you when it's time... -

GFM - google Freecycle. List items and leave them out for the ones that want them. People will take anything that is free. The plastic clothes hamper is to keep your kindling in, of course! You will cut the dead tree branches on you property down with the chain saw. The small branches become kindling for starting the fire in your new fireplace that... -
ARCHIVED Time To Start Packing School Lunches Again
kareng replied to Darissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My boys do not have to be gluten-free. But when they take lunches, they don't always like the " normal" lunch. Add fruit or carrot sticks & maybe some gummy fruit snacks. Here are some things they take or have seen at school & can be gluten-free: Cold cuts,Cheese spread, cheese, egg slices, salad dressing or mustard or mayo, etc on rice cakes... -
Not sure if it would fit. People "bake" cast iron in the oven during the oven cleaning cycle. Then re-season it. Olive oil and back in the oven. Not sure the temp. Hub is out fishing in the rain. He could tell me what temp he uses. Maybe someone else knows this?

ARCHIVED Best Tasting Yogurt Pretzels
kareng replied to Ev7777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Around here, many people buy the Glutinos pretzels for parties. They are thicker & hold up to a thick dip or hot cheese dip better than fragile, over- salted gluteny pretzels. Haven't tried the yogurt or chocolate ones. Trying not to. -
Where is Freebirds? Incase someone lives near. Please say Kansas City! Pretty please!

ARCHIVED How Much Would You Pay To Eat Your Favourite Gluten-Containing Treat?
kareng replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
But I don't have to. I guess, for me, there isn't much I would want to eat that I haven't found a way to get it gluten-free. Except maybe Ritz crackers but I really don't need those. -

This place we are staying in the Ozarks is 1217 times better than the place Rachelle went. Also, we didn't bring any extra relatives or drunken ex- strippers with us. It's been raining this morning and 74 F so that messed up jet skiing. Will try to do that later. The boys just liked sleeping in and having pancakes and playing some odd card game. SB... -

ARCHIVED Aaack! He Put Macaroni In My Pan. Now What?
kareng replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OFF WITH HIS HEAD! You might just be scratching the nasty Teflon off if you scrub too much. Just buy cheap Teflon if you like Teflon. Or buy a good pan you can soak in vinegar and scrub. -

I think he has a chance. I have teen boys so I've seen alot. Some boys just naturally have growth spurts at different times. My boys grew a lot between 12-14. But still gained 1-2 inches between 16 and 18. Make sure he is getting any vitamins he might be deficient in from the inability to absorb them. This is an age where they are putting on bone density...
