ARCHIVED Son Newly Diagnosed And So Frustratred Already (Long Post)
frieze replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
not having children but being in the healthcare field, I think one of the biggest things parents can (try) to do is NOT to grieve too much in front of the child in question. Not to deny the child's grief, but support that child in moving thru it and on to acceptance. I was taught not to treat a "sick" child as if they were more sick than they are...do to... -
do not take the blame! you are not the medical prof. here she is. She should have noticed! Please gently point this out to her, it may benefit her next patient.

MMA is methylmalonic acid, if it is elevated, your B12 is deficient. 335 would read "normal" in the US, not in many other countries, ie Japan is over 500. Also, the older we are, the less accurate it becomes. It measures B12 analog (inactive substances) as well as active B12. since you are potentially symptomatic, your level is too low. supplement with... -

ARCHIVED Should I Get Some Other Tests

The low T may be related to the low D.....obviously the dose you are taking is not working. Need more, or more sun. -

ARCHIVED Ttg Igg Test Results
frieze replied to NJceliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is one of the most confusing lab reports I have ever seen! I am hoping part of the problem is formating on the computor. I am thinking that the deaminated IgG is a weak positive. and i don't see a total IgA in this mess. If i am right, you are positive on the THE most sensitive test for celiac. good luck -

ARCHIVED Feeling Tired

Laura, your specific instance sounds like blood sugar problem. Have you gone to gluten free bread/grain products? They tend to be higher in carbs and lower in protein. Try a no-grain lunch and see if that fixes your problem. To the others, quantitative B12 testing, for the most part, isn't worth the effort, and the "norms" are too low. Either get MMA... -

Back bone, you need one. and you can teach your daughter to have one as well. I know that sounds harsh. But she may have permanent damage now, that the earlier dx would have spared her. Don't ever let a doc run rough shod over you or yours! -

ARCHIVED Something I Did Not Expect (!)
frieze replied to Ninja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
soooo, how tall were you when you stopped, and how much have now gained? The expectation with those parents would have been ~ 5'10" or so...but is the "giant uncle" your fathers brother, if so, maybe your father was intended to be taller? -

ARCHIVED Could Celiac Disease Be Causing My Other Health Issues?
frieze replied to dmcook1990's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had typed up a reply earlier, lost in ... 1) When did you start you gluten free life? did you see any improvement at that time? 2) Do you presently live in a mixed household? 3) Who does your food prep? and are they cognizant of what you require? 4) Have you checked all your personal care items and meds/supplements? 5) Totally unconected to celiac... -

ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac? I'm African-American.
frieze replied to andyeight1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1) Lactose intolerance is fairly common in the AA community, if my memory serves. What is one of the big sequelae of celiac....hmmm 2) Most of us in this country can't, with any real certainty state we are not of mixed race. I betcha, you belong here. -
Don't think I have ever seen the term "screening" used with an endoscopy when biopsies have been done. Either those specimens were positive or not. Sounds like an attempt at duplicate procedures to make money. Going gluten free and continuing to pursue other reasons for damage are not mutually exclusive. See if you can get your specimens sent to another...

Ah! then it makes sense. Mine is K+ gluconate 595 mg=99 mg of K+. so yours is in that ball park. one possible choice for M++ is magdelay/mag64, sustained release magnesium, but you will need to ask the pharmacist, and shop around, the price varies a lot. Duh, went and reread, and see that you are in the UK. Don't know what the laws are there.

you would probably need to research and see if they are at all near botanical relatives. walnuts and hazelnuts and peacans grow in temperate climates, whereas almonds and cashews are tropical, don't know how closely they are related. -
What country are you in? In the USA there is a limit on how much K+ (potassium) can be in one OTC tab. Which I believe is 99 mg. You can get into dangerous territory, cardiac wise, if you over do it; especially if you have any underlying kidney disease. Food sources are good, if you can tolerate those foods, citrus and bananas, turkey as far as protein...

If you are sure that it is a spasm, make sure you are getting enough potassium and magnesium. Especially if you are taking Vitamin D. Perhaps there is some sort of allergy going on here, and the eustachian tube is trying to drain?
