ARCHIVED Campbell's Products
psawyer replied to Yellow Rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It was my understanding that Campbell would clearly label any gluten source. You said chili dog. Could it be the "dog" in your chili dog? Not all frankfurters are gluten-free. -
I was referring to the vodka. There are a number of other beverages which carry the Smirnoff brand. Some of these may be made with malt. In some cases, the same name may refer to different products in different states, due to varying tax laws. Smirnoff vodka is a corn-based spirit, no matter where you buy it. But the "coolers" could be vodka based, or...

I still have a reaction when I accidentally ingest gluten. I have been gluten-free for seven years now. I recently had a reexamination of my duodenum in conjunction with a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy is a routine thing for men my age, every three to five years. There was no indication of celiac damage in my duodenum (small intestine) and the biopsies...

ARCHIVED Big Problem, Neediing Help Asap!
psawyer replied to mamaw's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If she had nothing to hide, she would be forthcoming. Draw your own conclusions, but a taunt that ends with the words "pants on fire" is prominent in my mind at the moment. This is very sad, and I do hope it can somehow be resolved, but I have serious doubts that it can. Happy birthday. May you have many more. -

ARCHIVED Symptoms
psawyer replied to mamam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms are consistent with celiac disease, but other causes are possible. If you have a first-degree relative (sibling, child or parent) with diagnosed celiac disease then you should definitely be tested. Since there is a genetic factor, your chances of having it are significantly higher when you share half of your DNA with a known celiac. The... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Allergen Cross Contamination In "gluten Free" Foods
psawyer replied to Tarrenae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well said, Tiffany. My kitchen, indeed my whole house, is not "gluten free" since my wife has a few things containing wheat. We store them away from anything else, and on the bottom shelf due to the remote possibility of a spill falling. Oh, wait, we only have one counter, so not only is this "a facility that..." but it even would be "shared equipment." ... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ranch Dressing
psawyer replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
At least in Canada and the USA, "vinegar" when it appears as a single unqualified word in an ingredient list is safe. The only vinegar to worry about is malt vinegar, which is not distilled (all other types are), and it must be labelled as "malt vinegar." It cannot legally be listed as simply "vinegar" without the "malt" adjective. -
ARCHIVED Pos Blood / Neg Biopsy
psawyer replied to Tigano's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the biopsy can be negative while you do have celiac disease. The biopsy tests a few samples from the lining of the duodenum. The damage may not cover the entire small intestine. It may not have progressed far enough to be detected by the biopsy. The samples may miss damge that is there in other places. A positive biopsy is positive, period. A ... -
David, Type I diabetes is an auto-immune disease. I have it. The body produces antibodies which attack the cells in the pancreas which create insulin. Without insulin, death is inevitable. Insulin injections are required. I take at at least four per day, and sometimes as many as six. It can occur in young children, and was once called juvenile diabetes...

I don't know about D being mainly in the morning, but the other two are typical celiac symptoms. -

ARCHIVED Happy Birthday Admin!
psawyer replied to jerseyangel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Happy birthday, Scott. -
Smirnoff is made from corn. Even if you don't believe that gluten does not pass into the distallate, there is no gluten in the mash in the first place. There is a huge facility in Muscatine, Iowa, that processes corn into ethyl alcohol for Smirnoff, among others. Open Original Shared Link They also make other products from corn, including a well known...

ARCHIVED Skepticism From Family
psawyer replied to Janniec6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was diagnosed at age 46. My doctor at the time (he retired 4 years ago) agreed to test for it when I asked about it, but said it was unlikely to be my problem since celiac "is a rare, childhood disease." Hmm. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Is Developed In The Dough?
psawyer replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, Stef, good to hear from you again. You can post a link, as long as it is not to your own web site. Promoting your own site is not permitted, even if it is not a for-profit enterprise, but a link to another site is okay. There are lots of links to wikipedia. Everyone should keep in mind that wikipedia is a good source of information, but it is not... -
ARCHIVED Mead Envelopes
psawyer replied to radgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never seen a confirmed case of gluten in envelope adhesive (or on stamps). Like Tiffany, I think of this as another celiac myth. If anyone has contrary evidence I would welcome it. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bob's Red Mill Flour
psawyer replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is a one-time offer, and as such does not--as I see it--violate board rule #2. ETA: Rule #2. Do not promote your own business, Web site or products--even if they offer free services. The proper place to post your Web site, business or other services is in your profile, not in your signature block or in posts. -
ARCHIVED Problem With My Posts?
psawyer replied to aquamarine-queen's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
New topics are at the bottom of the list until they are reviewed by a moderator. They are then pinned, and appear near the top with the other recent posts. Neither of your new topics had been pinned, which is why they were hard to find. I have pinned them both, and am pinning this one as well. -
ARCHIVED Mead Envelopes
psawyer replied to radgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It depends very much on the brand. Most ones manufactured in Canada and the US are safe; the adhesive is not wheat derived. I know that, in Canada, Hilroy uses a corn base for their adhesive. I think the Hilroy brand is only sold in Canada. Hilroy is owned by Mead, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all Mead brands are safe. -
ARCHIVED How Sick Were You On Gluten?
psawyer replied to amberleigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was very sick for several years. Severe D, nausea, vomiting, cramps, gas, bloating, anemia, B12 deficiency, weight loss (went from 200 to 130 pounds), lack of energy, foul moods, hypoglycemia, passing out, and more. Saw too many EMTs and the inside of too many ERs. Numerous doctors didn't figure it out. My wife discovered some information about celiac... -

Those links appeat to have been pasted in from another thread: Open Original Shared Link They work there, but long urls are displayed with an elipsis replacing a number of characters in the middle. If the displayed version is pasted, it does not work.
