  1. I am probably in the minority as I really dislike Lara Bars. I find the sugar content high and the protein count low. I eat one and it doesn nothing for me. I try hard not to eat processed foods but every once in awhile one gets caught and needs something like Now! I usually have a Think Thin bar in my purse. The sugar is an ok level and protein is among...
  2. Please don't use imitation butter, there is so much "junk" in it!! The ghee is good and you might want to give the coconut oil a try. Yummy! Use it just like butter. Smear a little over some roasted veggies....good stuff!
  3. Always use Mission here too. I read that they use separate facility for processing the corn, but can't give you the reference as was so long ago I don't remember but you can safely use them.
  4. I agree with other comments that rice can be difficult to digest especially in the newly and still healing celiac. You may want to wait a few months and then try again. Also you might want to consider an organic rice. Rice crops are heavily sprayed with a variety of pesticides which can add to tummy problems. Lundberg has a nice organic rice, they are...
  5. I have used the product for about four years with no problem. But, that said, what works for one may not work for another. It may not be gluten but one of the other ingredients in it that is causing you a problem. I know others that have had good results (no pun intended!) from Miralax which is quite safe. A friend's celiac teenager has used it for a...
  6. Up-scale places are usually pretty good as they have chefs who see food issues as a challenge, not cooks who throw stuff on a grill.
  7. Been there with friend's that feel uncomfortable with me not eating. Or feel sorry for me. I don't there s any one answer. Sometime (If I know the place and feel comfortable) I'll order from a gluten free menu, other times I will bring my own meal or sometimes just a snack. Some chips or something. That way my hand is going to my mouth like everyone...
  8. Beans can be hard to digest especially on a still healing gut. Something to keep in mind when trying beans. Even after four years I still have some upset if I eat too many.
  9. We have friends who tested negative for celiac (and we all know about the reliability of tests!) but because it runs in the family and they were not feeling well decided to go g.f. They are far more carefree about it than I would be as they are the ones who pick the bun off etc. Personally, if you get sick run from the stuff. Never cheat, never scrape...
  10. There is a wonderful book called Practical Paleo with lots of wonderful recipes and don't use beans, rice or any other grains. All using whole foods, nothing processed. It's my new BFF !
  11. Lots of water and ride it out.
  12. Well, here's my two cents.... They're a cookie. Sort of like the chips Ahoy (if I remember correctly! ). I rarely eat that processed stuff any more but bought them as they are Girl Scouts. That said, hmm... they are ok. A cookie. And I will say even if they aren't the best and they aren't Thin Mints, well, at least the G.S. is making a try and so good...
  13. It took me almost two years to heal. The length of time can vary greatly from person to person depending on how severely you were sick, how old you were, how long did you suffer undiagnosed. A month is just the beginning, a great beginning tho!
  14. I make up a huge batch of chicken enchilidias, divide them into meal size and freeze them. That way I always have a meal. Another idea (if you like it) is to make up some meat loaf, put it in a mini load pan and you will have several mini meat loafs in the freezer. Meat balls, anything like that. simple to make a lot of and great to have in the freezer...
  15. I like your way of looking at it! A kind way of turning the table so to speak
  16. Ok, need to add my assorted two cents in here.... Udi's baguettes are dry (!!! and their dinner rolls were really bad) but try it with butter and topped with fresh parmesan cheese under the broiler.....yum!!! To onedesperateladysaved, I am not trying to be rude just to understand, why are you unable to eat at the same table? If you have your...
  17. It really varies from person to person. Some people find that their symptoms get worse as they heal, others find symptom all but disappear. I am goinf on 4 years and have had a combo of both. For the first 18 mo or so my symptoms were far worse if glutened. Now I find that if glutened the symptoms have almost all but disappeared which means I must be...
  18. I love this response.....And so agree! I think the biggest issue is not so much "gluten free" is that you are being dumped on and no one is validating your health issue. There is no respect here for you. So, I think I would have to go along with the buying gluten free bagels. Pop into the store, buy a few bags of Udis (or whatever) and call it a day.
  19. You are in a tough spot as you can't really feed a boarded dog gluten free food, not good for dogs to change foods abruptly and their owners might not appreciate it. So on that score you are sort of stuck! On the other hand food dust in the air can be a problem for you. Some ideas...... Can you do the food prep/clean up and maybe feeding in just one...
  20. Check out some of the paleo cookbook. I bought two different ones and have been having sooo much fun making different things (and I have never been into cooking...at all!). The books I have rely heavily on spices for kick and I have my partner in total awe at some of my creations!
  21. I am a little tired of the gluten free jokes myself. A friend sent me a video clip of some late night comic who did a monologue on gluten free. She thought it the funniest thing and was sure I would enjoy the humor. Not. I would think it funny to laugh at a person with a peanut allergy or diabetes so why do we need to laugh at those who are gluten free...
  22. I was thinking that her score of 277 fell right in the middle of the 'normal" range of 91 - 414. As I said, I am not good at reading that stuff. Thanks for the feedback. As for eating g.f? Hmmm, well I guess I just feel that the grain-free way of eating is much healthier.
  23. I ate at an Olive Garden in Washington and it was ok. Just ok. I wouldn't pick it as a return to place unless there was no other choice. It was just sort of blah!
  24. I would throw it through the dishwasher or wash in Hot water and soap. You should be just fine. It is more about the scratched old plastic containers that had gluten food in them that we would really have to worry about.
