ARCHIVED 1 Month Gluten Free - Still Some Hiccups
anabananakins replied to IveGotEffinCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My doctor put my on nystatin for candida/yeast overgrowth and that has really helped with the brain fog, which had lasted even after I went gluten free. Might be something to consider? My endocrinologist was nagging me to lose more weight (I have insulin resistance) and when I complained that I was physically exhausted all the time he tested my vitamin... -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
anabananakins replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't really been around any little kids since I went gluten free, but omg, I can imagine what this is like! You'd almost want to hose him down in the front yard :-) Haha, yes, my kitchen needed a very thorough glutenectomy. -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
anabananakins replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Grumbs (gluteny crumbs). Grumbs make me grumpy :-) -
oooh, really? That's fantastic news! I ate there last year when I stayed at a hotel near by (pre-going gluten free) and really enjoyed it. I'll be back again this Sept, but thought it might be too complicated to deal with. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Yet Another Rant About Gluten Free Colleagues Eating Wheat...
anabananakins replied to Marz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's a good point. My doctor supported me going gluten free but said not to stress out if I got cross contaminated, I don't have an autoimmune disease and it won't do me long term damage. But I don't know that I entirely agree with her since one of my big concerns was the weird balance problems I had and I'd done a lot of research that inicated that while... -
ARCHIVED Stupid Lady At Work
anabananakins replied to RideAllWays's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They need to read these forums! This place helped me so much. I so many posts here while I was doing my gluten challenge and it meant so much more to read people's personal stories - and ways of handling things - than it did to read boring information sheets full of facts. By time my tests had come back negative for celiac I didn't have to worry about what... -
ARCHIVED She Told Me I Was "weird"
anabananakins replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It does take a while to get used to this - and it does seem kind of weird at first to have problems with the foods that everyone else seems to eat without problem (though they are probably in denial!) I think she sounds cool and as you get to know each other better you'll be more comfortable with it - and she'll get used to it. Besides, while I agreed... -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
anabananakins replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
*hugs* I think you are doing a great job, you're really patient. It's a terrible age. I remember lying on the floor kicking and screaming because my mother added spinach to the lasagne. I can't believe I behaved like that, but at the time it was so serious! This kind of reminds me of how I feel if I my blood sugar levels drop. I feel like my skin... -
ARCHIVED I Lost My Favorite Kitty Today
anabananakins replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so sorry for your loss :-( She sounds like a wonderful kitty, I really loved the stories you shared. -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Being Tired, Help.......
anabananakins replied to sandiz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tiredness could also be vitamin D deficiency. My iron and b12 were fine but my Vit D was terribly low - I scored 2 and he said it should be at least 50, optimum 70 and mine being so low explained why I feel like death warmed up. It puts you at risk of a bunch of awful things so worth getting tested. -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
anabananakins replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My favourite french seed-y mustard had wheat in it. There's another brand I found to replace it but it's kind of bland tasting. Oh well. I have loved reading these posts! -
ARCHIVED Does Every Crumb Matter?
anabananakins replied to tina a's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. I tested negative to celiac after a 3 month gluten challenge (gluten BINGE!) and I don't have the gene either. But once I went gluten free even a tiny bit would make me sick. Each time I've been 'glutened' it's been something tiny like crumbs, contaminated oil or the time I let my friend try some of my food using his gluten-y fork. I thought everyone... -
My endocrinologist (I'm insulin resistant) called me today with my results and gave those exact ranges. And mine was 2! And I live in Australia! I was so surprised but now that I've been reading about it, I'm freaked that more people aren't aware. I can't work out what my dosage is compared to yours, but I'm supposed to take 3 tablets and the bottle says...

ARCHIVED Got Glutened By Frying Oil
anabananakins replied to anabananakins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So true kareng! And I'm glad it was a friday afternoon before a quiet weekend. I still feel rotten. -
ARCHIVED Back To Work And Exhausted
anabananakins replied to labrisbin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is so true. I thought it was normal to have stomach ache after meals, I thought that was how you knew you'd filled up. Now I think what did I eat, should I experiment removing it? Once you start to feel great, you want to feel great all the time. -
I was really silly yesterday. I was craving something substantial for lunch so my coworkers and I went to a burger place that does gluten free buns. I also decided to get chips (fries) because I just really felt like them. The burger place were great, they described exactly which ingredients contained gluten and which didn't and warned me that the frying...

ARCHIVED I Can't Seem To Make Myself Do It.....
anabananakins replied to BriLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bri, you'll get there. I'm sure! It's just hard being told what to do, I understand that. I'm the kind of person who runs out and binges on crap any time I'm told to eat healthy. But I've had no trouble with going gluten free and I think it has a lot to do with something someone said about gluten being poison and how you'd never ever have a little bit of... -
ARCHIVED So Grateful For Years Of Painful Symptoms - Really!
anabananakins replied to gf-soph's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That's interesting, thank you. I confess to being pretty 'head in the sand' about it. I will tell my GP my family history and ask about the gene. I'm not diagnosed celiac but when the tests came back negative I went gluten free because I knew it made me feel bad - and I feel so much better. -
ARCHIVED So Grateful For Years Of Painful Symptoms - Really!
anabananakins replied to gf-soph's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, I am SO glad you have been pursuing all these tests! That is fantastic that they caught it now (ok, better not to have found anything at all but given the all too likely other possibility, a huge relief!) It's making me think maybe I should ask for a check up. My dad gets checked for polyps because his mother had them but I wasn't too worried because... -
ARCHIVED I Thought Gluten-Free Eating Would Be Healthier!
anabananakins replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My response to being unable to eat takeaway anymore has been to eat baked potatos with heaps of butter every night. It's not healthy but knowing I can still have the delicious taste of melted butter on something has gone a long way to soothing the pain of losing bread, lol. Maybe I could have my melted butter with broccoli instead, hmmmm. -
ARCHIVED Well I Got One Diagnosis Today
anabananakins replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Connie, I'm glad you got the 5 hour test, the results should be really interesting. I read that you were taking a puzzle book in another thread and I shouldn't laugh because it's a shame you didn't use it but I thought back to when I had this test and they recommended I bring a book and the fasting + blood test combo meant I was so brain dead I could barely... -
ARCHIVED Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerant Athletes-- Please Share Your Story
anabananakins replied to ar8's topic in Sports and Fitness
I'm no an athlete but I do train pretty hard with a personal trainer twice a week. I've found this year so tough, I did a three month gluten challenge for testing (blood tests negative at 5 weeks and 12 weeks, still waiting on gene results). Throughout the gluten challenge I've been completely exhausted, the two mornings with the trainer are all I do - way... -
This is really good to know. I am taking the Southest Chief from LA to Chicago in September and I will have been at a hotel for 5 days beforehand so my access to a kitchen will be nearly non-existent. I have a roomette so my meals are all included, plus I really enjoy the social aspect of eating in the dining car. I've done overnight trips twice before...

ARCHIVED Any Sleepwalkers Out There?
anabananakins replied to buffettbride's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I sleep walked as a child too buffetbride. I think I stopped in my early twenties. Mostly it was when I was feeling stressed - I was a pretty anxious child and suffered depression for years as teen/early twenty something. I remember rearranging my room when I was 20 and something about it must have really bugged me because I sleep walked every night for... -
ARCHIVED Completely Grain Free
anabananakins replied to farmwife67's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went completely grain free for 3 weeks in January. It's how I discovered I had a problem with gluten - when I got lazy and started eating wheat again I felt absolutely horrendous. I found it hard to get enough carbs. I was following paleo so no legumes or potatoes either. I was doing it to lose weight, because I've found with my insulin resistance...
