  1. There are people that sensitive. This might better belong in the "Super Sensitive Celiacs & Gluten Sensitive" part of the forum though. I can usually eat stuff like Wendy's or commercial potato chips fine but I don't know that I'm as sensitive as some. It would be a pain to have to cook every single food you eat.
  2. I get a little queasy, but I think it's just mental for me becasue it passes really fast. I just steer clear of the bread and bakery areas.
  3. Oh, my. The reply about independent testing is priceless! "We have no clue but we trust our suppliers. Yeah, that's the story!" At least we now know to avoid EVERYTHING they label gluten-free. And I feel sorry for Perry's family members.
  4. I took Seroquel once for a manic episode. I slept for five days straight! It was a little strong for me. Have you been tested for Hashimoto's thyroid disease? Lots of celiacs have it. It can mimic bipolar, as your thyroid can go from high to low and back from the autoimmunity. Meds like lamictal won't help. Lithium does sort of, because it suppresses...
  5. Thanks for sharing your story. I have been reading a lot and I think all my symptoms right now are undertreated hypo. I'm wondering if the fever and elevated blood pressure I had on one Dr. visit was just a virus? It hasn't happened since. I'm tired, brain fogged, horribly dizzy, no memory, no concentration, no motivation, resting pulse is quite low...
  6. Cass, check this out! Open Original Shared Link I moved to an area with fluoridated water two years ago. The thyroid trouble got worse within months.
  7. I generally feel better if I include some complex carbohydrates in my diet. To keep things varied I do include non-gluten grains. Otherwise I'd eat an awful lot of potatoes.

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy Without Blood Test?

20% is about right for relatives for celiac. It's much higher for gluten intolerance. I imagine her GI doctor was going to do the colonoscopy and decided it was worthwhile to do the endoscopy as well. Villous damage is diagnostic, so if she comes up with that no blood work is necessary. If she comes back with a normal biopsy, I agree it's tricky.
  9. My latest thing to help my thyroid is switching to bottled water. My water district fluoridates the water and apparently fluoride is bad for some people's thyroids and you can get enough to have trouble if you drink tap water. I've also learned that if you're hypothyroid your adrenals will not work well either. This is an interesting read. Open Original...
  10. Hi, Tay Yes, I think you have plenty of symptoms of celiac. It sounds like you have a fair amount of malabsorption. Is there any way for you to get to another doctor? This one isn't doing you any good. Your GI should have done biopsies with the endoscopy. Did they get any biopsy results? A CT scan is not used for celiac diagnosis at all, so it's good...
  11. The thing with ANY antibody testing for sensitivity is that you have to follow up with diet. One piece of information that could be useful is absence of antibodies; however, there were people in Fine's data who were negative for anti-gliadin and still felt better gluten-free. It could be because in some people gluten seems to have an innate inflammatory...
  12. This. You sound hypothyroid, hopeful. It is extremely common in celiacs. Hypothyroid can cause abnormal response to exercise and fatigue. Are you cold, skin dry, hair dry or even falling out, mind foggy or forgetful? Those are other symptoms. ...and before you posted I thought my 432 Hashi's antibodies was through the roof. Turns out I'm only halfway...

    ARCHIVED Chili's

I'd rather see a shared fryers note than nothing. At least I know the food isn't safe! B.J.'s has that shared fryers note on their "gluten free" menu but they actually go to great lengths to keep their gluten-free pizza safe from CC, including separate toppings and pizza boards. I am pretty sensitive and can eat it. Weird, huh?
  14. You go back to eating gluten, and wait a few weeks. On a full gluten diet, you can ask a general practitioner for a celiac panel. Oops... just read your response about awful reactions to cottage cheese. (By the way, what cottage cheese contains gluten???) Like you, I went gluten-free without testing and never looked back. It wasn't worth the stomach...
  15. Welcome. No sense crying over spilled milk! You are not stupid; we are raised to listen to doctors. 1. Yes. 2. A few months of eating strictly gluten free. 3. Yes, you may very well heal. A lot of folks with thyroid problems improve off gluten and if one part of your endocrine system straightens itself out, sometimes the rest follows. By the way...
  16. What a funny coincidence. It's actually amazing to me that a nurse has mentioned it. Maybe word is finally getting out! If you have questions about EMPowerPlus, feel free to PM me. Also the ladies at the TrueHope call center are really sweet and helpful. It can be a bit of a journey tapering off the lithium and onto EMPowerPlus because you sort of detox...
  17. I take EMPowerPlus by TrueHope. Open Original Shared Link It is expensive, but I was paying over $110/month in healthcare for the bipolar anyway. That plus some fish oil and the gluten free diet held my mood stable for five years until this recent bout of thyroid trouble. My personality totally changed for the better. The irritability went away, I was...
  18. I was bipolar too. The manic symptoms went away with a gluten-free diet and proper nutrition until recently. Now I am having some thyroid issues that are giving me hyperthyroid "manic" periods, though it's not anything as bad as when I was eating gluten. Gluten-free gourmet cooking is pretty easy, as long as you aren't trying to cook French sauces or...
  19. I would snottily ask to see their independent gluten test results. Personally, if a label says wheat I am not interested no matter what the test results say. What if one batch didn't ferment well???
  20. Not quite. You have no way of knowing how many DQ8 genes are in your family. Both your parents and all of your grandparents could have any number of DQ8 genes. All you can say for sure is that at least one of your grandparents and at least one of your parents has at least one copy of DQ8. Boy, that's a lot of "at leasts". So yes, your grandmother...
  21. Anti-TTG (anti tissue transglutaminase IgA) is a better test for celiac because it is autoimmune. Presence of anti-TTG is definitely abnormal, whereas low levels of anti-gliadin may not be. Yes, I mean I haven't seen that many people on the board post positive anti-TTG results. There are plenty of anti-gliadin as you would expect with a 60% positive...

    Fast Food

Big chains I know of are Wendy's and Burger King. Wendy's is celiac heaven because the chili is gluten-free so you can get a filling meal of chili and a baked potato. I'm not crazy about the taste of BK food, but you can get the chicken salad and usually the french fries are in a dedicated fryer. Boston Market is another chain where we can eat a lot of...

  24. When I go on dates I choose the restaurant! It is frustrating being on a restrictive diet that you didn't choose. I've gotten used to it over the years, and to use that wonderful analogy, I am about as likely to view bread as food as I am to suddenly crave denim. You have to give yourself a little time and space to grieve. It's normal to feel...
  25. I have a heavy drawer too. I keep dried rice noodle bowls that are gluten-free, some sort of fruit/nut bar, microwave popcorn, and sometimes Tastybite Indian food. Sometimes I bring cups of applesauce or fruit. I just found some bowls of precooked plain brown rice too. They were pricey but I don't plan on eating very many.
