Damage can be patchy and pathologists often don't consider the earliest stages of celiac diagnostic.   6. You can't get positive bloodwork without eating a full gluten diet (3-4 slices of bread a day) for two months. It sounds like that's not an option which means you are doing the right thing staying gluten-free. With the rash, GI problems, and mental problems it sure sounds like celiac to me.   9. I have one spot on my hand that blisters occasionally and itches like the devil. I used to think it was herpes whitlow but I had no reason to get that. It's mostly a dentists' disease. Now I'm betting on DH, especially with all the intense itching.

    I'm a little late to this thread, but you really don't want to put a kid on a black-box labeled drug (the big FDA warning box) unless there are no other options. Also, Lotronex is not the only drug to treat IBS-D. Not by a longshot. When I was a child I took an old, much safer medicine called Bentyl. It helped quite a bit.

  13. If they package malt-containing teas on the same lines, it could be CC'd with traces of gluten. Personally, I'd order it and not worry since the manufacturer says the tea is gluten free. Sadly, just about anything that comes out a facility that processes gluten can theoretically be CC'd. It depends on your personal sensitivity how much you need to worry...
  14. Tonight I'm going out so I brought a sandwich on Udi's to work. Tomorrow... Chicken legs, baked in the oven with a little butter and lots of Tabasco sauce (brand name is gluten-free unless you are too sensitive for vinegar). It tastes kind of like hot wings. Brown rice in the cooker, and I'll steam some broccoli.
  15. I have REALLY variable reactions. My doctor says people's level of gluten sensitivity can really change, either with more or less sensitivity. I got the wrong crackers at Trader Joes, ate one, and thought "waitaminute... that tastes like wheat". I checked the label, and sure enough I had just eaten an entire whole wheat cracker.   17. OMG don't mess with that K2 stuff! It has cannabis-like designer drugs in it. The drugs have never been tested, nobody knows if they are safe.   23. When I'm traveling I always bring gluten-free bread with me. It keeps just fine for a week-long trip. Then I can go to a grocery store and buy lunch meat, some raw veggies, and a piece of fruit for a decent meal. There are grocery stores pretty much everywhere. If all else fails, I can usually find a convenience store with fruit and some packaged nuts...
  24. Going back and reading what we said, I realized I left something out. Gads how I hate this brain fog... The idea with refractory is that you might be ultra-sensitive. Brands like Udi's and Bob's do their best to get gluten-free grains but there is so much wheat in fields, silos, and trucks, that getting completely gluten-free grains is nearly impossible...
  25. Even a trace of gluten will often give me a canker sore. I used to have them all the time eating lots of wheat. There are lots of studies on how much gluten it takes to do damage. The answer is very little, and it depends on the person. A crouton a day is too much for all celiacs. Some might be able to eat a crumb every now and again with no damage...
