Thanks. That's a little unusual...and scary. I guess it's because the strain is sticky and can get in where there a little damage? Usually they tell you bacteria are on the outside and to wash stuff.

Total IgA? I don't think your diet affects it. -
I think y'all are misunderstanding what this bacterium is. It is 100% natural, nothing to do with laboratory GMO. Reporters are misusing "GMO" to get Google hits and sensationalize the articles. Here. Open Original Shared Link And another that explains bacterial DNA exchange. Open Original Shared Link Basically, bacteria swap bits of DNA by trading...

There's a really long "what are you cooking tonight" thread here that should give you plenty of ideas! Start simple. Make some rice, bake some chicken pieces, and fix a veggie or make a salad with oil and red wine or basalmic vinegar. Viola! Easy, wholesome gluten-free dinner that requires no label reading. -

Korwyn, maybe if we ask nicely one of the moderators will "sticky" it and weed out our friendly back-and-forth so it's all suggestions. I don't think anyone would mind this thread being cleaned up and if it's "sticky" new folks can find it easily. I didn't get to do #3 and #4. 3. Always have an "emergency" stash of nuts, trail mix, a gluten-free... -

You had a celiac panel without total IgA??? Go yell at your doctor. There is an association between celiac disease and low IgA, so total IgA should always be run with a celiac panel. Low IgA invalidates the IgA tests since people with low total IgA don't make enough to find on tests. Instead you get an IgG celiac panel. This could be what's going on... -

I developed respiratory allergies to the powder down after a few years. I couldn't handle one of the birds without sneezing at least part of the time, and the sneezes absolutely panicked the poor bird. She was getting reluctant to come out of her cage and becoming very hard to handle. I was getting sick from the allergies so it was a bad situation for... -

I don't think you would lose too much by simply stripping out the linkbacks. You've got the articles organized well enough that I can follow a story if I'm inclined. Then going forward you can get the linkbacks going within celiac.com. You could still do it in code with a hash table, but by the time you had collected all the links you would be done by... -

Do you do any scripting? It wouldn't be very difficult to write a perl script with some regular expressions that strips out the back links. Also there are a LOT of perl scrips kicking around the web that convert HTML to BBcode and back that you might find handy. -

You were tested for total IgA and it was normal, right? If so, I'm not enough of an immunologist to know whether the reappearance of IgG antibodies is clinically significant. -

I used to have parrots. I got too allergic and had to find them a new home. My birds were pretty flexible about food though, probably because I gave them "people food" so often. Sometimes they gave that suspicious look to a new food or threw it in the bottom of the cage, but eating some in front of them usually helped. If one bird decided something was... -
ARCHIVED Is Igg Really Clinically Irrevelant?
Skylark replied to organicmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The mainstream view is that IgG testing is not clinically relevant, particularly IgG4. The problem is that you can have IgG to foods that comes and goes, and IgG shows up a lot more often than actual sensitivities by elimination diets. There is even an argument that IgG protects against IgE mediated allergy, which shows how poorly we understand immunity... -
ARCHIVED Just Not Sure...any Suggestions
Skylark replied to Shifty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome. That sure sounds uncomfortable. Yes, you definitely need a celiac workup. Don't stop eating gluten until all the testing is done as you'll get false negative results. Then as eatmeat4good says, give the diet a try no matter what the results are. A lot of people with GI problems are gluten intolerant even if they're not celiac. -
ARCHIVED A Little Help?
Skylark replied to MSOUPS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That sure sounds familiar. I have that same hypothyroid trouble but my TSH isn't high enough that I should be symptomatic. You need to be off gluten. First, it is likely to help your thyroid symptoms. There seems to be some crossover between celiac and autoimmune thyroid disease. Second, some doctors don't realize that developing celiac is a process... -

That "friend" is NOT a friend. Does he like to see if kids with peanut allergies go into anaphylaxis for kicks too? If I were you, I would distance myself from that abusive and dangerous person immediately. Your real friends will listen to you and not be concerned about lab slips. The ones who don't are not friends and you shouldn't concern yourself... -

I often get asked about Enterolab, as I don't hold their anti-gliadin stool testing in high regard. Dr. Fine's story is pretty much on his website. He is a published expert on microscopic colitis. He started suspecting that in some patients the colitis was caused by an autoimmune celiac-like reaction. He was disappointed in the inaccurate serum tests...

Fine's story is pretty much on his website. He is a published expert on microscopic colitis. He started suspecting that in some patients the colitis was caused by an autoimmune celiac-like reaction. Oh, wow. With those medical expenses I can see why you'd want to write off the extra cost of gluten-free food. I don't meet the cutoff to deduct medical expenses (fortunately). Three biopsies is really standard, as stupid as it sounds. I take it you had a negative celiac panel? It could be that you are non-celiac gluten intolerant but there's no ICD... -

Also the unpublished research on his web site shows that a gluten-free diet is a better predictor of long-term out come than whether or not the person had antibodies on his tests. If you are interested in your genetics, there is no harm in getting them done. Thing is, there are celiacs without the so-called celiac genes and people with "celiac" genes...
