*fingers crossed* Yes, lots of people around here have suddenly gotten pregnant when they went gluten-free. You're pretty new to the diet so you might want to give it a little more time before you start getting shots and whatnot. I'd say to go at least a year gluten-free first.

Sorry to hear your diet is so limited. Corn is a little allergenic and GMO corn is a nightmare. You might try some organic, non-GMO corn once your body starts to heal and see if you tolerate it better. I know corn makes some people sick and I don't want to belittle anyone's food reactions! I just think that saying "all celiacs shouldn't eat corn" is unfounded...

My response on the website after reading the entire article. I imagine it will be deleted by the moderators on that page, as Dr. Osborne seems to have an moneymaking agenda, but at least I can post it here. The authors of the study do NOT conclude corn is dangerous for celiacs as they could not get a response in their cellular leucocyte migration assay...

ARCHIVED Been Away From Forum For A While
Skylark replied to serenajane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chinese food is not really gluten-free unless they use a dedicated wok. Soy sauce and gluten is in the wok seasoning because woks are like cast iron - they're never really scrubbed out. That's probably why it's giving you trouble. About the only thing it's safe to order from a normal Chinese restaurant is steamed rice. Even the steamed veggies are sometimes... -
ARCHIVED Am I Harming My Other Kids By Going Gluten Free?
Skylark replied to norahsmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A lot of us get more sensitive to gluten once we eat less of it. I wonder if your kids are gluten-intolerant and that's what is happening. Try taking all the girls gluten-free, including at Grandma's, and see if the mystery stomach illnesses don't clear up. And by the way, you have not "messed up" your kids. People with normal gluten tolerance don't... -

ARCHIVED Allergies To Chicken, Dairy, Soy, Corn, Sunflower... What Can I Eat?
Skylark replied to redgf's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I ate a lot of lamb and rice as a child because I had a lot of allergies and sensitivities. Basically, it's a lot of cooking. Breakfast is easy because he can eat wheat. A wheat cereal, eggs and toast, or even pancakes or waffles made from scratch will work. For lunch, sandwiches with a non-chicken meat, sliced vegetables, fruit. His mom can probably... -
ARCHIVED MSG Has Gluten In It Right?
Skylark replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a shame she hasn't provided any references. The blog post is a little difficult to swallow. It's clear that some people do not tolerate glutamate and other dietary amino acids well, but the jump from that to autoimmunity needs scientific references to substantiate it. -
You have to tell your mom how much you love her and want to spend the holiday with her (assuming this is indeed the case), and that you will be bringing your own food. You can be very kind and compassionate while still refusing to take "no" for an answer. Setting boundaries never goes over well, but the only way to establish them is to stick to your guns...

Anyone know about the plain old Lay's potato chips and shared machinery? I like them better than Stax and they're easier to find. Lundburg rice cakes are really good as well as being always gluten-free. I like the flavors.

ARCHIVED Feeling Totally Overwhelmed
Skylark replied to Kiwikins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is where you come to whine. No need to apologize. ((( hug ))) It sounds like you need to be off the meal plan. Is there any way you can get a hotplate or microwave and a small fridge in your dorm? Do you have a bike or a way to get to a grocery store? Even living on peanut butter and bananas would be better than getting glutened all the time. ... -
ARCHIVED Odds And How To Figure This Out.
Skylark replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Every 7th works unless you have 7 people. Then person #7 always gets the goodie. It sounds like even more fun with stuff popping out and your hubbie trying to clean up as it goes. What if you put names on the cards? If someone gets a named card, they pass the card to the recipient and take the next goodie? Then everyone is waiting for the gift... -
ARCHIVED Odds And How To Figure This Out.
Skylark replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That sounds like such fun! And there must be crepe paper everywhere when you are done. You can't do every 7th because if you get 7 people, the same person will get all the gift cards. If you do a "goodie" every 5th item, they will spread pretty evenly among 6-9 people. You can count it out on your fingers to see what I mean. The only problem is that... -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency?
Skylark replied to shacon-bacon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Low IgA is associated with celiac and will cause false negatives on IgA tests. It's supposedly not a big deal as far as general health. Your daughter should get the IgG version of the celiac panel. -
Heh. I think you're encouraging a bad habit.

ARCHIVED Low Iron Still & Gluten Free Diet
Skylark replied to EDowling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wait until the second test comes back. Sometimes abnormal lab results are just mistakes. Your doctor will start looking for medical reasons first, but you might ask for D and B12 levels to get an idea of whether you still have some malabsorption issues. It can take years to recover from Marsh 3 or 4 celiac. -
ARCHIVED Blood Testing While On A gluten-free Diet
Skylark replied to lyn1170's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry, but it would take weeks of eating a full-gluten diet for you to have a hope of getting accurate results after five months gluten-free. Doctors often say four weeks, but studies suggest more like two or three months of gluten is more realistic. -
ARCHIVED MSG Has Gluten In It Right?
Skylark replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's not a celiac myth, but rather outdated information. One of the major ways MSG used to be made was hydrolysis of gluten. Now MSG in the US mostly made by bacterial fermentation so it's gluten-free. It is probably unwise to buy bulk MSG that is imported from a country that doesn't require wheat to be labeled (like at an Asian market). You can't be... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge-Questions
Skylark replied to crampy girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to help a little. As far as your kids, they have a 50% chance of having DQB1*0201 so it makes sense to get them celiac panels, especially if they show any GI or nervous system trouble. You'll get used to the diet, even with gluten-eaters around. You don't need to push your husband into the diet, unless you turn out to be highly sensitive and need... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge-Questions
Skylark replied to crampy girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1. You have to eat a LOT of gluten if you are only challenging for 4 weeks. One study showed the median time for reappearance of damage for a challenge with a light amount of gluten is about 12 weeks. Yours may come back faster since you weren't gluten-free for too long. 2. You have DQB1*0201, which is linked to DQA1*0501. That means you have pretty... -
ARCHIVED Help With Celiac-Like Symptoms But 2 Negative Blood Tests
Skylark replied to dzaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A doctor cannot see the celiac villous damage on CT. The damage is microscopic. Malabsorption can be celiac, but also Crohn's or microsocopic colitis. I've noticed a lot of people on this board have gall bladder and bile duct problems, so that is consistent with celiac. With the endoscopy, your doctor would take a biopsy and look for the celiac damage...
