  1. Oh, did I mention that I know the sleep trouble and jumpiness are hypo as well as hyper because it happened to ME this spring? I thought I must be hyper and read like crazy. I ran across some stuff by Dr. Derry on thyroid.about.com Open Original Shared Link See where he talks about anxiety and hypo? I totally had that sudden increase in pulse he was...
  2. A week off gluten seems short to me. I wasn't 100% well after only a week of gluten. As others have said, you must use certified gluten-free oats and even then he may not tolerate them. He also needs fluids, electrolytes and other standard care for long-term diarrhea. Poor kid!
  3. Yes DGP carries more weight that TTG. The main reason is because DGP is more sensitive than TTG, so it's more likely to pick up celiac disease properly. It's also a little more specific for celiac than TTG. If you're going to decline the biopsy than you need to eat as if you are celiac for the rest of your life. You risk some rare but very nasty GI...
  4. If that's the case I can see why you're more intent on salicylates! Yolo here on the board is salicylate intolerant so she might be of help. Mom doesn't eat cruciferous veggies much. They have some raffinose (the same stuff that causes people problems with beans) and both those and beans tend to bother her stomach. I think brussels sprouts OK as far...
  5. Sleep trouble and jumpiness can be hypo as well as hyper. Supposedly the way you tell is if your resting heart rate falls to normal (or low) you're hypo. If it stays elevated all the time, even when you first wake up, you're hyper.
  6. Eggs are a folk remedy for hangovers. The rationale is that they are rich in cysteine, which your liver burns through metabolizing the various chemicals in alcoholic drinks. Plus part of hangover is hypoglycemia so you need some simple, bland food and eggs are super-easy to cook and keep down. I also find Alka-Seltzer helpful for the headache and nausea...
  7. Hi and welcome. I look for very simple foods to reintroduce after an elimination. If you're celiac, it will take a while for the gluten reaction to build up so you can't necessarily only add it back for a day or two and move on. I messed up that way and only figured out rye was a problem when I started going downhill after a few weeks. I'd recommend...
  8. You couldn't pay me enough to risk messing up something like my wedding day with gluten. I didn't used to react so strongly. Now if I get into traces of gluten it's cramps diarrhea for the rest of the day. Any chance you can get a family member to make you a cake from the Betty Crocker mix and put it out on the cake table at the wedding? Whole Foods...
  9. IBS is usually a symptom, not a disease. As you notice, yours gets better off wheat. It's very rare for fiber to cause problems unless your digestive system is really messed up, and it wouldn't cause all the neurological symptoms you're describing. Think of it very simply. If a food makes you sick, don't eat it. Play with your diet until you find something...
  10. I'm with PricklyPear. Hangovers absolutely require eggs. Srambled eggs with cheese because an omelette is too much work when you're hungover. Got any gluten-free toast or bagels? And kudos on passing up the cupcakes. An alcohol hangover is far preferable to a gluten one!
  11. Are almonds in the shell safe or is there still too much nut dust on the outside? I wonder if you could get them from a grower? Here's a California orchid you could write or call. They grow walnuts too but maybe they can get almonds without CC off the trees. Open Original Shared Link This one might be even better since it looks like they only sell almonds...
  12. The alleles detected and the results all match up. This is the list of your four alleles. You have DQA1*0201 and DQA1*0501. (Colons are optional and I'm leaving them out.) The JWMA and RCH codes for your DQB1 are lower on the lab sheet and they explain that you have DQB1*0303 and DQB1*0302 or something so close the test cannot distinguish. I'll...
  13. If you feel like eating two or three things is too restrictive, test for one and then the other. The only problem is you won't feel well out on the off chance you have both. I've been trying to explain the FM diet. Lots of carrots and parsnips are NOT ok for fructose malabsorption. I know they're on some of the FM lists but it's wrong. Carrots bother...
  14. Yes, the more thyroid hormone, the lower the cholesterol. Low cholesterol is another symptom of Graves' disease. High cholesterol is a sign of HYPOthyroidism. Keep us posted!
  15. On the ingredients list they are putting "contains wheat" if there is wheat, so there is not gluten in the chicken. I'd guess either you got CC'd or just plain food poisoned. Open Original Shared Link I'm curious what you are ordering because hardly anything is gluten-free they way they make it on the menu. It would be handy to know something to eat at...
  16. For people with low IgA, you read the IgG celiac tests so your grandson is negative. It's good that his doctor did a thorough panel. As everyone else says, it doesn't rule out gluten sensitivity.
  17. Most Japanese restaurants flavor miso soup with soy sauce. I've bought soy miso and had no gluten issues. Edited to add: As I think about it, I'm FAR less sensitive to barley gluten than wheat or rye. I'm probably a bad person to advise with respect to foods with traces of barley.
  18. Strong, no. Desperate, yes.
  19. You do have hope to feel better. My mom came back negative on antibodies and biopsy. She feels a heck of a lot better off gluten. With the DGP there is certainly something going on and you might be pleasantly surprised.
  20. You are NOT a head case. I really hope the diet helps you.
  21. Even distilled vinegar made from wheat does not have detectable gluten so it's rare to get a reaction. That said, a few folks do react. If I were you I'd switch to apple cider vinegar. Heinz says they only use corn for their white vinegar and apples for their apple cider vinegar so the Heinz white vinegar might be safe too. You can challenge in a few...
  22. Definitely chew thyroid pills but you still want to wait an hour before eating even if you chew them. Sublingual absorption is not that fast or efficient and you will still absorb a fair portion of the dose at the intestine.
  23. If you feel GREAT you are probably doing just fine. You can ask your doctor to rerun your celiac blood tests in six months and be sure the antibodies are going down too. 1) I didn't buy anything but a new cutting board, toaster, and wooden spoons. It's always nice to have a fresh cutting board that isn't scratched up and wooden spoons are cheap. Good...
  24. I find the willpower because I hate, hate, hate being sick! I KNOW how miserable I'll be if I eat the doughnut or slice of pizza and it just isn't worth it. I can't help much with snacks because I don't get bored with fruit and veggies. Maybe have some hummus and corn chips or rice crackers, corn chips and salsa or guacamole, or peanut butter on...
  25. I'm soooo glad it went well! By the way, there's usually no need to go hungry in airports if you don't mind airport prices. I've found yogurt, salad, fruit salad, plain white rice at Chinese restaurants, and bags of dried fruit and nuts at newsstands. Most airports have a Starbuck's and they usually have a gluten-free snack bar like Kind bars and often...
