ARCHIVED Celiac Is So Humiliating Sometimes
Marilyn R replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can tolerate well meaning people making a comment about my physique, and I can tolerate ignorant people making a comment about my physique, but I've never had to endure what you endured, an ignorant jerk who couldn't take a really big hint and persisted. I probably would have left in a huff, so kudos to you for staying at the dance and having a good time... -
ARCHIVED What Do These Symptoms Mean?
Marilyn R replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are the shaky hands like a pins and needles sensation? Do you get that sensation on your feet, especially at night? You might want to take look at eliminating soy, I'm not sure. Good luck in your endeavor to find out what's ailing you. -
ARCHIVED Nighsthade Free Recipes
Marilyn R replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you, Mushroom! I just e-mailed your recipe to myself! My mom used to make something she called Delish Casserole. All of her kids love it, as well as our spouses and offspring. I'm pretty sure it was taken off a can of cream of mushroom soup label. Saute some onion and celery in olive oil, brown some ground beef, add (safe) cream of 'shroom... -
ARCHIVED Princess Cruises - Amazing Experience
Marilyn R replied to Char's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Yay! I'm so happy to learn of your positive travel experience! I haven't travelled for over a year, even though I used to be an avid traveler. It's really wonderful that you had a nice, safe cruise. Thanks for sharing. It gives hope ... and hope is a very good thing to have! -
ARCHIVED Buckwheat, Butter, Honey, Thyroid
Marilyn R replied to elk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged. I get that way and try to remember that even my worst days now are better than my best days before ... sounds like country western lyrics in the making, but it somehow helps. Its a time of trial and error in evey literal sense. We're going to try things and find out that they're not good for us at all period, or... -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Bad Reactions To Quinoa?
Marilyn R replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oops, meant to add this. Good luck Jester! If indeed your problem is with gluten, life will be so much better once you know what ails you...YAY! Life will be a little more complicated, but still SO much better. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Bad Reactions To Quinoa?
Marilyn R replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheatcheaf, I appreciate your input, but know that my reaction from quinoa was not CC. The reaction was severe. I think the protein is a problem, and appreciate the positive responses from others. -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Mushroom Soup...but Needs Tweeking
Marilyn R posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think there's hope for this to be a good cream of mushroom soup, but it's not right yet and I thought I'd ask for help. I took 1 1/2 an oz. of dried s$#&ake mushroom caps (purchased at an oriental store), soaked them for 10 minutes, chopped them up and put them in a pot with the water they soaked in, a big hunk of garlic, chopped broccoli and salt and... -

If you don't have the No Tomato Sauce Recipe, let me know. I'd be happy to post it, but don't want to be redundant. -
I've learned so much from this forum, and one of the best threads I hit was when I searched "I'm ready to give up". I think it will help if you look at that old post, it helped me. I think this is a horrible disease and it irritates me mentally and physically. But we are in control and we will get better and we are really the lucky ones who know what...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Bad Reactions To Quinoa?
Marilyn R replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a horrific reaction to quinoa purchased in bulk from a health food store a month after going gluten-free. I rinsed it well and steamed it in a rice steamer. Had it for dinner and made a salad with the leftovers for lunch the next day. I loved it but my body HATED it and beat me up severely for a week. (CC could have been a factor, but not with that... -
Thyroid problems? Soy could be the culprit vs. dairy, or you could be having a problem with all three. It took me over a month gluten-free to figure out that I couldn't tolerate soy. I wasn't eating out at all, was very strict at home, eliminated dairy, and I kept telling my doctor that my calcium supplement was making me sick. He told me I shouldn't...

ARCHIVED Nighsthade Free Recipes
Marilyn R replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried something new tonight. I had about 1/4 - 1/3 lb leftover ground pork I bought for a Thai lettuce roll recipe with chopped shrimp, ground pork and bean sprouts. The recipe called for quite a few ingredients, was a lot of work and turned out ok but not worth all the trouble. (Don't you hate it when that happens?) I remembered a post by Ravenwood... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like A Hypochondriac
Marilyn R replied to Coolclimates's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just replied to this, but it isn't appearing on the thread so I'll start over. Depression, insomnia, malaise and fatigue is what started me on my medical odyssey initially. The physical symptoms started much later. Most mainstream doctors recommend avoiding soy with thyroid disease. Even though soy is difficult to eliminate from your diet, it... -
I'm new on the forum and have soaked up your previous posts. You're going to be one wonderful mother! Congratulations and very best wishes! Please keep us posted about your progress. Yay! A beautiful bun in the oven...

ARCHIVED Question To Those Avoiding Dairy
Marilyn R replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry I didn't include this in my earlier post. I ultimately gave up dairy too. Evidently the protein in wheat, soy and dairy (and quinoa) are very similar. I don't know why some people can tolerate soy and/or dairy but not gluten, whereas others keep developing more food intolerances. Perhaps it has something to do with early intervention/diagnosis.... -
ARCHIVED Question To Those Avoiding Dairy
Marilyn R replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Melinda, I found out about my intolerance to soy by having an itsy bitsy container of soy yogurt one day, got sick, recovered and then made a tuna salad prepared with gluten-free Hellmans two days later. It was a double whammy! I wish you luck. I've felt 99% better since eliminating soy and derivitives from my diet. -
ARCHIVED Sick Days Vs Glutened Days
Marilyn R replied to curiousgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the good advice, everyone. I need it today! I had turkey piccadia over brown rice with a side of plantains earlier today at WF ... the first time I haven't eaten something I prepared myself in weeks! Now I have D. (It could be from soy or gluten, but usually my throat feels like it's closing up when I have soy, so it must be gluten cc.) ... -
ARCHIVED Question To Those Avoiding Dairy
Marilyn R replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you'll offer her peanut butter and banana with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of cinnamon or PB and sliced apple for breakfast tomorrow. You could wrap that in a warmed corn tortillia if she'd go for that. You probably already know this, but allergists recommend that you don't repeat the same foods within three days in order to avoid yet... -
ARCHIVED Sick Days Vs Glutened Days
Marilyn R replied to curiousgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In mho, anything that helps move the toxins out of your body should be pursued. On a thread last week, someone mentioned that they work out to sweat it out. That makes sense. Drinking plenty of fluids makes sense. I posted this... I like a detox bath I read about in a book checked out from the library on autoimmune diseases: Fill your bathtub with the... -
ARCHIVED I Yelled At Someone
Marilyn R replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Karen, your post about bubble girl was like a tonic for what ailed me. Thank you! And Kit, your post wasn't mean at all, it just reinforces that there are people who really understand/empathize and are safe ... people who have celiac disease. I wish you with the best with your travels, aderifiele, and know what you're going through even though I... -
ARCHIVED I Yelled At Someone
Marilyn R replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This evening I reacted strongly to my dear boyfriend sticking his unwashed hand into a bag of corn chips! (He was drinking a beer at the time, and we were having a nice conversation when he walked into the kitchen and grabbed the bag of chips and did the dirty deed.) I've talked to him several times about cc in a calm manner. Tonight I guess he'd had...
