  1. What? The coffee could be cross-contaminated? Even if you just get drip coffee with soy milk in it? How do you cross-contaminate that???
  2. Blood in the stool in my family means calling the doc's office and going in. It's a classic sign of many bad things and many benign things, but since it CAN be the first sign of bad things, I think it's worth a doc visit every time.
  3. Please don't tell me you think I should be eating those spiders I squish ... at least I know they're gluten- and dairy-free!
  4. Beond helpful!!!! Being on both sides of the doctor patient relationship has done SO much to help people on the forum. You go Girl!!!!!!!!!

  5. Keep in mind that they try to write the instructions for idiots, which is obviously a club of which you are NOT a member. So I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck!
  6. This is my first holiday season after diagnosis too. But I spent our last Christmas in the bathroom or clutching a cup in case I puked, so although I am really missing pumpkin pie and the ease of eating whatever I want, I'm going to try to keep it all in perspective: I'll be able to be where I want, which is OUT OF THE BATHROOM. I'm going to just bring my...
  7. Hon, I agree you need help. Smoking pot is something that chronic pain sufferers are sometimes reduced to, but it's not the best solution, especially at your age. There are better options. Please do read the links that are above, but also realize that what the other posters are giving you is tough love because they are genuinely concerned for your health...
  8. psawyer, you are correct. Those are both positive results. What that means is that you have both IgA and IgG antibodies (antibodies of both the blood and mucosal surfaces) that against the tissue transglutaminase. This is a great test for Celiac disease, and it is positive. Welcome to the community!
  9. It's usually best if you can to leave the specimen refrigerated. I think most places would prefer that for as long as possible. Although, if you see something to the contrary on your instructions, you should certainly follow the instructions over what I said. I have not yet sent in a poop sample but I have brought one back to the hospital and in that case...
  10. It might be a good idea to take the omeprazole until your throat and stomach have a chance to heal. The stomach doesn't stop making acid entirely when you take a PPI, but it does make less, and that means that the injured, inflamed portion of the stomach wall or esophagus will be less barraged with acid while it tries to heal. You might in fact be slowing...
  11. As long as the alcohol is distilled, you're OK. Even whiskey is OK.
  12. I think it's time to try going gluten-free. The tests are imperfect. You had some improvement with the gluten-free diet before. Be super-anal about being VERY GLUTEN-FREE and see if that helps clear things up. Honestly, everyone's goal in this scenario is to get you feeling better and off the PPI. Tell your doc you're trying to go gluten-free and then...
  13. I enjoy feeling better again. I can't say that I enjoy Celiac ... I'm weird enough without having dietary restrictions. But I don't really mind the Celiac too much by itself. I really miss cheese. I think if I could get back the ability to eat cheese, I wouldn't mind at all.
  14. It depends on the restaurant. Typical problems: soy sauce, fish sauce, and any combination/mixed sauces. As seen in another thread on this forum, some restaurants even add flour to the sushi rolls in the vegetables. You'll have to be very vigilant and careful in whom and how you ask.
  15. At least wheat and gluten will keep you from eating roughly the same foods! That's sort of like getting one off the list. Check out Open Original Shared Link, especially their Open Original Shared Link (to avoid the dairy). It's more expensive than cooking, but could potentially save you time and effort. Having a backup is always nice.
  16. If I were you, I would just say that Celiac runs in the family, you've noticed this illness when your granddaughter eats bread, crackers, and pasta and you're concerned that she also has Celiac. If you leave it at that, it might lead to a better workup by the doc. That assumes your doc isn't an idiot. Docs tend to dislike when patients come in and demand...
  17. Pizza. Sandwiches. Eating cheese ... I miss cheese so badly I could cry.
  18. I couldn't possibly recommend using medicinal marijuana because there are risks associated with using marijuana during pregnancy, whereas the prescription drugs are better tested and more likely well understood ... but yeah. I understand that women who can't stop puking while pregnant will do whatever they can because they want to stop - puking without end...
  19. Vitamin waters are just overpriced bottled water. See the recent lawsuit against Vitamin Water because the claims on the bottle are a load of crap: Open Original Shared Link
  20. Hello! Welcome to the forum! Jump right on in. Ask any questions you have, share any great finds you've got, and feel free to explore the older posts for lots of wisdom and help.
  21. No, that's luckily not how antibodies work. Just think of how many people you know who are allergic to cats, and none of them have brain or gallbladder disease inflicted by anti-cat antibodies.
  22. I've gone out to four places: a Thai place, a Lebanese place, Burger King, and Wendy's. The Thai and Lebanese places are both local, family-owned places, not chains. And they're both great about making their own spice mixes, sauces, etc and being really careful about my food. They're both wonderful. Burger King and Wendy's are great as long as you explain...
  23. There's no published research that I could find on Pubmed between 1947 and the present linking Celiac and hyperemesis gravidarum. I wouldn't be surprised if having concurrent electrolyte and vitamin disturbances from Celiac Disease would cause an increased risk of hyperem, though. It just makes logical sense. What I did find is that hyperemesis does run...
  24. I don't know about your kids' medical histories, but it sounds like it's time for you to voice these frustrations with the doctors who are making the recommendations.
  25. Yup. They sure can. For most people they don't, but for anyone with a sensitive GI tract (many elderly people, those with Celiac, etc) they can be a major no-no. Mine took over a week to come back from a major teaching hospital, and I'm a medical student - you'd think they MIGHT put a rush order on my biopsies. In fact, NOPE. No rush order. Definitely...
