  1. londonlass- so glad the 2nd go around was better ! as has been said here, a gluten-free diet for even a short period of time will create inaccurate test results. even gluten challenges don't always "work" when someone agrees to them. unfortunately, not everyone gets "conclusive" results via testing...but if the diet works, then stick with it. there are...
  2. I'm not sure of the date but I rcvd one a week or two ago with the hamburger on the cover.

    ARCHIVED Oahu? Maui?

Open Original Shared Link Ah! I'm such a smoker! (Don't mean that literally--I always use 'smoker' to describe someone not using their brain. Hence me, when I forgot to add the link!) We went to Roy's--was not gluten-free at the time, but was a nice restaurant that I am also sure would accomodate. Had I been diagnosed when we had gone I could...
  4. Jillian- Sounds like you had a better attendant staff the 2nd time around--glad for that!

    ARCHIVED Oahu? Maui?

That's where I went on my honeymoon! Congrats girl--we loved Maui Ck out this other thread on Hawaii--might give you some info. Also, ck out Elonwy--she is from Hawaii--lucky girl!
  6. klemmen- sorry for all your gi trouble, esp after a year is frustrating. i will say i am just over a year gluten-free also, and in some ways, still have a while to go w/improvement. however, your bms should have improved in that time. have you done a rotation diet where you kept a food/symptom journal to make sure you know exactly what foods are the culprits...

    ARCHIVED #&$#@!% Waiting...

That is absolutely ludicrious. I would not wait that long to see anyone, not even the pope! Can you see another GI doctor? I would call and say if you can not get me in sooner I need a copy of what's in my file and am getting a referral to someone else.
  8. They will probably e-mail you an ingredient list, but won't say whether its gluten-free or not...that was my experience with MAC. You can post the list if you want help discerning it. I definitely know the lip conditioner and amplified cream lipsticks have gluten. Not sure about viva glam.
  9. Jackie- Dining cards are basically business card sized info sheets that give a description of Celiac, what can and can't be eaten. They can be helpful when dining out--esp at places that aren't so familiar with the gluten-free diet. I got mine from Living Without. Triumph also makes some a lot of folks like, and some others make their own or print off...
  10. Like Patti said, an endoscopy is usually no big deal. I have had 4 and at the most, I've just had a bit of a sore throat for a day afterwards. Depending on how much they drug you up You may sleep for several hours afterwards once you get home. I usually end up doing that. Make sure someon you trust goes with you...because you may not be very cognizant...
  11. Hello! Traveling can be hard, especially at first, but you'll be an expert before you know it Go here to see my traveling/vacation tips, and some others from a recent post. Good luck! Open Original Shared Link
  12. Glad this came up again--I had a friend over last night and forgot I will get the recipe tonight!
  13. I had wondered about a non-dairy yogurt, but never had the ambition to investigate...thanks for posting!
  14. I haven't heard very many good things about gluten-free plane meals--mostly rice cakes I have a portable, collapsable/soft-sided cooler I take with me--and eat better than anyone else on the plane !
  15. Yeah Patti! That's how I make my mashed potatoes too
  16. tribal- unfortunately i didn't feel better within a few weeks either. i actually got worse initially...including a new form of stomach aches i had never had that stuck with me for several months. i'd say it was several months before i started noticing slight improvement... i am just over a gluten-free now, i have definitely improved, but have some on...
  17. i'll look it up when i get home tonight
  18. french fries with mayo and ketchup--used to love that on occasion. hmmm, i can't think of anything really weird i eat now, although i'm sure my dh would think of some! i did grow up eating peanut butter and mayo sandwiches in my lunch. i know, most people think its henious--but if you think about it, it really the perfect food combination: you have the...
  19. What a hard situation! First off, going gluten-free if you have Celiac is absolutely worth any difficulty you encounter. We go gluten-free to be healthy, to live longer...to get more of our lives back. You are not selfish! Your mom is being selfish. Unfortunately, it seems like she really doesn't understand the situation. She may never...sometimes that...

  21. Have you changed your diet since your gastritis diagnosis? Gastritis can often be greatly helped by elminating offending foods. What gas-x were you taking? Do you ever have periods of relief? An option would be to keep a food/symptom journal and do a rotation diet to ck for a specific food or ingredient that might be causing your symptoms.
  22. tribal- were you gluten-free when you had the blood work done for celiac? being gluten-free will definintely effect any kind of test results you might have. they will not be accurate. i think it is possible someone might have celiac and ibs, but i think a good portion of those with ibs do not in fact have ibs. ibs should be a diagnosis of elmination...
  23. I haven't tried it yet, but a few issues ago Living Without had a gluten-free recipe for pastry dough, and a baklava recipe. I could try and post it later if you're interested...
  24. Forgive me if I'm being redundant--I'm not sure what you've posted Rachel, but here are some links below. The first is the legal/illegal food list for the SCD. The other 2 are info/recipes/sites etc. There are some good SCD veterans who can answer your questions in the future too. Good luck! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open...
  25. Carole- Have you only been gluten-free since your diagnosis in January? If so, I would expect some of these symptoms to continue. 6 wks or so isn't long enough for many folks to really see results. And it can take a healthy body some time to adjust to a new diet anyway. I suggest keeping a food/symptom journal for several weeks and I'm sure you will...
