  1. Hey all... I am looking for new allergy meds. I was on clarinex but their gluten-free statement was shady to me...and so I am shopping around to see how others compare. Zyrtec told me it would take a week or more to get back to me. Any thoughts on Zyrtec, Allegra or any others? I do not want any decongestants... Thanks!
  2. Absorption of meds can definitely be affected with Celiac. I switched to nuvaring for that reason (and also b/c it is a lower does than ortho-tri c). Oral bc is absorbed via digestive system. The nuvaring is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. I definitely recommend it. Was your irregular bleeding more bleeding or less bleeding/no real periods?
  3. I also love living without--definintely my favorite publication. Go here to see: Open Original Shared Link There's a section where you can view sample articles. There are always good recipes, practical/helpful information and encouraging stories...
  4. As Tiffany mentioned...I would try to find some good gluten-free sweet treats and switch to those. I have honestly never been tempted to cheat...and if I was, I would just picture potential intestinal lymphoma and how that is nearly always is fatal and of course, miserable. Sounds morbid...but for some the fear of death is a good motivator! Not that...

    ARCHIVED Constipation

Monica- 1st question, why did you decide to be a vegetarian? If you are willing to add in fish, I would go for it. You didn't say anything about soy--do you eat that at all? I can not have dairy anymore b/c I am intolerant and it definitely constipates me. If I was you, I would go on a trial period of dairy free. Even two weeks and see if your bms...
  6. Don't eat honeycomb.... ! As Vincent said... Nearly all US oats are contaminated--it is nearly impossible to find uncontaminated oats. I haven't been convinced of any yet. And even if you find pure oats--you may be one of the ones who react to them. There is no test to determine that yet...and not sensing a reaction does not mean that one isn't occuring...
  7. I use sorghum in baking sometimes...
  8. Let us know what you find Yvonne....
  9. Hmmm, the Tropical Source I use is dark. I think their rice crisp bars are more mild. Found this online--cf/gluten-free chocolates, and some especially for kids: Open Original Shared Link I've never had this brand myself though...
  10. I know...I so miss someone would come up with a premade gluten-free eggroll. I used to love pagoda's...yum.
  11. Ken- If you are new to the diet it is common to gain weight, due to your body beginning to absorb more. However, the more starchy, less fiber replacement that are often gluten-free food can also contribute to this. You may need to adjust your diet again. I did...I stopped eating as many carbs and traded rice 1/2 the time for quinoa... I added in beans...
  12. Yes! I developed a new kind of abdominal pain post gluten-free. It lasted for the first 5 mos or so. I was investigate for gall bladder, pancreas issues etc. My doctor thought I might have spincter of oddi dysfunction, but I said I would hold out on the procedure to investigate it and see if the pain diminished. It did eventually, and we never figured...
  13. The birthday you put together sounds great! Please tell her I said I hope her day was great. Let me know how it went!
  14. I used to take Hycosamine and Bentyl years ago. Unfortunately they weren't much of a help for me, and left me feeling a bit dizzy and out of it. It may work for you, as it has for some here...I'd say it just depends on your system. It doesn't sound like you will...but I did just want to mention to be careful taking it. If you are still having pain frequently...
  15. I take the quintabs and really like them. Easy to swallow too, if you hate doing that like me
  16. Thanks for article Patti--will read today. Judy--Let me know what the chiro says...
  17. Sweet rice flour is what i typically use to thicken in place of flour. There are also some 'cream of' soup recipes here from stratch like Bette's version...you can make in bulk and keep on hand till needed.
  18. Jen - I keep promising myself I'll eliminate dairy for a while as it may help with my C which is chronic but I haven't stuck to it because I don't have any GI symptoms from dairy, although saying that, a glass of milk makes me feel a bit iffy. Staying off the dairy won't be a problem as I've cut down a lot - its just a problem going without milk in my one...
  19. Meant to post this article I thought was good on the merits of follow-up biopsies: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1280
  20. Hello! It really cheers my heart to hear Bernadette is doing better!! How are her spirits? Beans...I used to hate them, now I love them...I try to eat them several times a week. I have quite a few bean recipes at home that I like. (I'll post some more later). My favorite beans are black beans. Great northern and pinto are also good, creamier, softer...
  21. I was going to mention Diabetes...that's the only thing I know of....
  22. Ha ha! I agree with that--except for the biscuits. Those were damn good! Well, leave it to the down-home country restaurant to keep gluten flying around in their kitchen I'm not surprised honestly...
  23. Some intitial thoughts... I threw the sweet packet away but it had Manitol, Sorbitol and a couple of others. I try and avoid artificial sweetners but every now and again I really crave something sweet. I would try and see if you notice any correlation with these? I was told I was intolerant to sucrose and borderline fructose by the same BEST technician...
  24. I am actually having one tommorrow! My one-year. I am having it b/c to me it is important to know what the state of my SI is. I have had some symptom improvement, but after one year, don't feel fantabulous.... so it is another tool for me to evaulate my progress and to learn more so I can help others. I am going to post my results when I get them.
  25. Its been years since I've taken cipro...but most antibiotics bother my stomach/intestines...its the nature of the beast. However, when I need to take one I always eat plenty of food with the dose and as I mentioned, take my probiotics.
