  1. Betty, Michael- Meat is one of the less allergic of foods... So I would be inclined to think your issues may stem from something in or on the meat. Are you preparing them a certain way? That being said, certain meats can cause GI issues in certain folks. And not all foods which cause bodily symptoms show up on a food allergy or intolerance test. Case...
  2. Did the doc at all mention the state of your brother small intestine? With you family history and his symptoms, it is definitely possible he has Celiac or GI. Has he ever had the bloodwork done or tried the gluten-free diet for a period of time? Also, if your brother has moderate to severe GERD, I'd say pepcid is not strong enough for him. Did the doc...
  3. It could be a physical thing, or it could also be the under-the-surface-stress etc you are experiencing with such a big life change also. Try to be patient with others...and yourself right now.
  4. I also think it really depends on the person, and no one can really say how your body will continue to heal/change etc in the next few years. I would say you should experience some sort of improvement. I'm not sure if I will ever be rid of every physical implication of my Celiac, but I continually do what I can to get there. In the meantime, I try to stay...
  5. snickerdoodles and choc chip cookies, yummy
  6. ha ha!! you two are crackin' me up this morning, which is great b/c i am under the weather hmmmm lynne, i am marginal in a lot of things! and perhaps i am a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none? i do enjoy doing a variety of things, sewing, canning, cooking etc, but i'm definitely not the best in any of them! i just like learning new things, appreciating...

    ARCHIVED Casein?

Carole- So glad you made the connection. And sorry you had to wait so long to make it on your own! But we are here now to spread the word to others....
  8. Many a fan of BE here! Thanks for spreading the word!
  9. Betty-- So you are having a skin prick test for allergies? That type of test is not the best way to ck for food allergies, and it will not give you a read on food intolerances, like if you have one to casein (dairy). Go here to see the difference between an intolerance and a classic food allergy: Open Original Shared Link (You can scroll down to my long...

    ARCHIVED Casein?

tribal-- i have reposted an old post of mine below with more info on testing. you can not have food intolerance testing in an endoscopy. it is done with a simple blood test. some docs can do in office, but most folks do with a 3rd party testing company, like great plains or york. ps--part of this reason is that some docs do not put much stock in IgG...
  12. I have a water bath--my grandma's actually, just a huge-o pot with a jar rack. I do suggest getting a funnel--big help in keeping your lids clean. You definitely need a jar lifter too. And of course the jars, lids, rims. And some clean dishtowels etc for wiping off rims etc, we dips ours in the bowling water first. Go here to see a great canning site...
  13. Craig-do you already have the safe and forbidden ingredient lists? They are a great help when shopping and trying to figure out labels. Go here: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12

    ARCHIVED Casein?

I asked because a lactose intolerance is different from casein intolerance. Can you get a copy of your allergy tests? I am guessing it was for IgE antibiodies, which test classic allergies. You should get tested for IgG allergies-or food intolerances, more common, and more of what us Celiacs have going on. I have to go to a meeting, but let me know if...
  15. I felt like you and I still go through periods of time like that. You are going to need to really allow yourself some time to heal. Make sure you eat well and do get the rest you need in the meantime. And make sure you 100% gluten-free, including products, lotions, makeup etc.
  16. Deborah, cool restaurant. And spread the info around. When I was meeting the grocery, I also took in an article on Walmart and their gluten-free labeling...another 'trend-setter', although I'm not a huge fan of them But we can still use their decisions to influence!
  17. Good, I'm glad! Let us know what happens!
  18. I started reading yesterday...seems like it will be good
  19. This isn't exactly what you are talking about, but read this article, discusses how gluten challenges, going back to gluten after being gluten-free, doesn't always give accurate results: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1281
  20. Hey ladies! I got my crazy quilt pictures. PM your e-mail address if you want me to send them to you. My grandma's sister made it, some of the fabric is from her husband's clothes. She did the embroidery too which is throughout the quilt. It has family names on it. I plan on going back and adding in the last generation of family names I was sick when...
  21. Well, perhaps as time goes on and the demand increases and the products become more common, the prices will drop Might be a good time to do some investing the natural food industry....
  22. Lynne- Glad to hear about your beautiful villi!! Congrats

    ARCHIVED Time/warner Ceo

Good idea--I would also mention something about the delay in diagnosis or not being diagnosed and how it causes many to develop diseases that were probably able to be prevented, and how that ends up costing them, insurance companies and the rest of us $$$ down the line.

    ARCHIVED Casein?

gointribal- what are your symptoms related to milk--GI or otherwise... ?
  25. I think sometimes its all about the person you get on the phone. I have called the same company before several times and gotten different answers based on who picked up the phone...(or answered the e-mail).
