ARCHIVED Just Went To The Doctor
jenvan replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hopefully that full panel will give you some answers. What did the doc mean by 'pretty good'? That your biopsy was "pretty normal" or that it was pretty close to Celiac? -

ARCHIVED Want To Sleep All The Time...
jenvan replied to wolfie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kim-- Don't be discouraged by this, but for me personally, its taken months to start getting energy back, and I still have to set boundaries to make sure I get the rest I need. Be encouraged that you will improve though...but just need to be patient. Also, I do have a friend who has taken lexapro for a while, and it does cause him to be more fatigued,... -

ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Banana Choc Chip Muffins
jenvan replied to mookie03's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Show me the muffins! Stefi- Brown would work fine... I do think to get the best texture etc w/gluten-free baking, it is best to mix flours in each recipe. There are so many, but my easy staples are w. rice, b. rice, s. rice, tapicoa starch, potato starch, sorghum. (Millet, amaranth, nut flours I don't use as often). So, brown would be fine, but... -
congrats to you! did you use a mix or recipe from scratch?

ARCHIVED Anyone Avoiding Alcohol While Their Intestines Heal?
jenvan replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It absolutely makes sense that you notice more from alcohol than before healing or going gluten-free. I have never been a big drinker...but I can tell a difference and post gluten-free, actually feel the affects of alcohol, whereas previously, really did not. However, like I said, I would have at most 2ish drinks and that is every few weeks or months. ... -

ha ha judy--you're cracking me up there some difference btwn reg and sweet rice flour. i always mix the two, but use sweet rice for thickening sauces etc exlusively. i copied this from a website on flours: Rice flour: Ground from the whole grain. ARCHIVED Reply Function In Private Messages

me too! -
Wow Stef, I'd say that is a very unfair judgment. I think this place is very welcoming! I think the majority of peeps check posts at night. And your only thread was on weight loss supplements, which is a very specific topic, and considering most of the people here have been under weight, there is probably only a minority familiar with diet supplements...

ARCHIVED Check Out This Web Site
jenvan replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The problem is that even if the oats are gluten-free, how can you tell whether you are one of those who has a similar reaction to pure oats as to gluten, or not. This type of reaction has been witnessed in trials and research. To truly try oats safely, in my opinion, you would need to have follow-up testing done--bloodwork, biopsy etc. -

Aw, thanks Liz! I definitely have to give the internet some credit for that I read that article, it is pretty good, maybe technical for some, but good info on things that cause elevated enzymes, including celiac....

Good for you to tell work what's going on...glad they are switching you around for a bit. Yes, it can take time to switch all your non gluten-free foods and products out...so be patient with yourself. Do searches here on the board and thru past threads to see about gluten-free products/tolietries, makeup etc. I decided to switch to all natural products...
