  1. Welcome IrishEd! It sounds like you are having a difficult time of it right now. Sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed and stressed about socializing. I find that it is hard to eat with people too without explaining gluten intolerance. But really, I am doing that way less than when I first was learning it live with it. Are you feeling better when...
  2. Thanks to all of you for yet another "Thyroid Thread". I found each of your posts very informative and helpful and I am grateful for the information.
  3. I know your question was to Mushroom, but I would venture a guess on your food intolerance to be the Nightshade family. All peppers are included as well as eggplant, tomato, potato and tobacco and I recently read Goji berries are also in that family. If your reaction was to spicy food, my thought is the peppers. This may mean you cannot tolerate even...
  4. The important thing is you know what the problem is and you can control it. If the Dr. diagnosed Gluten Sensitivity then that should satisfy any school notes your child may need. Some researchers believe that there is a continuum of symptoms starting with gluten sensitivity and ending in full blown Celiac. If one accepts that premise, then it would...
  5. Thank you for posting that result. That is precisely why I don't advocate testing. By the time you realize what you need to be tested for, you have already found your answer. My Dr. said, "Why would I tell you to eat gluten so I can test you and then tell you that you should stay off of gluten? The gluten elimination and challenge is 100% accurate." ...
  6. Sorry I missed your question. I am certainly Celiac but without testing. I have Dermatitis Herpetiformis and have had it for 7 years. No Dermatologist would biopsy...and I tried several. I have to be very strictly gluten free or my sores flare. Hope you are doing well.
  7. Thyme, poultry seasoning, and oregano are my favorite spices to use with any meat and veg combo you throw in the the crockpot...I add Turmeric for color and cause it is healthy too. But a half tsp is all it takes...as it can get bitter. Choose your favorite 3 or 4 spices and stick with it for simplicity. That is what I do. Tony Crechera's seasoning...

    ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Good

Check your vitamin levels too....many vitamin deficiencies can make you feel fatigue and exhaustion. Be sure to take a good gluten free supplement.
  9. Lip balms usually contain wheat germ oil unfortunately. Burts Bees Lip Balm I have read on this cite is safe and gluten free. The numbing you felt may be from menthol which they often add to chapsticks and lip balms. Or..maybe you are right and it is from gluten though I haven't had that happen to me.

    ARCHIVED Life

I am so happy for you!! It must be wonderful to finally feel like "yourself"...and just think...you get to feel that good for the rest of your life! I'm 47, and just figured this out for myself. Then two months later figured it out for my son. He is 16 and is having the wonderful experience that you are. It is so thrilling for me to see him finally...
  11. I decided to use only almond flour and coconut flour for baking needs and just eliminated grains entirely. My thought is the nut flours have a far greater chance of being completely safe. Plus they are higher in protein and fiber and lower in carbohydrates than say rice flour is. It is just an idea...before you go to the trouble of making jackfruit...
  12. I took the whole kitchen gluten free. Since I am the cook I didn't want to be messing around with gluten poison while I was cooking. If anyone eats at my house they eat gluten free.
  13. I just placed an order through Nuts Online. They offer a gluten free selection that is Certified Gluten Free. I was very excited to find them. I ordered almond flour and coconut flour and nuts. Let's hope I don't turn out to be sensitive to them. I was just wondering if anyone has used this company and what your experiences were. They seem...
  14. I had no idea gum had soy in it. I have never even thought of checking for that and I avoid soy too. Hope you get an answer.
  15. I didn't test, but wanted to let you know that all of your symptoms matched mine including UTI spasms and ALL have resolved on being gluten free. I hope this is true for you as well.
  16. Might need to watch for secondary intolerances as they show up shortly after going gluten free. Soy oil and soy in the ingredients list makes me swell. Secondary intolerances for Celiacs are usually dairy, casein, soy, corn, nightshades, and fructose. Vitamin deficiencies can also cause swelling especially vitamin C and D. Lack of adequate protein...
  17. Try eating more protein. Your body is trying to grow a baby and your need for protein is increased. I find that I have really strong cravings for things that are not good for me usually only when I haven't been eating enough protein. (But then again I'm not pregnant, so take this with a grain of salt) I think cravings are our bodies way of telling us...
  18. Mushroom you are amazing. To the OP: My symptoms are slight headache- not the migraine I get with gluten. And...swelling...my face, eyelids, ankles, feet and hands are visibly swollen if I eat any of the soy... I'm still puzzling out reactions too, but so far I can tell these are definitely related to soy. Sometimes D..but no stomache ache...
  19. I want to speak to your problem with cystitis, and burning pain. I have had recurrent intermittent cystitis all my life. Often took antibiotics on a daily basis "to control the bacteria". Often there was no bacteria when my urine was tested. It was very surprising to find that all of these symptoms disappeared when I went gluten free 4 months...
  20. Has she been tested for Lupus? The malar rash and the high ANA make me suspicious as they are consistent with Lupus. A Rheumatologist could rule out Lupus. The rash, could also be Dermatitis Herpetiformis, the skin form of Celiac. All of her symptoms are consistent with Celaic. I have been gluten free 4 months and have had resolution of all of the symptoms...
  21. That is wonderful! Thanks for posting, I was wondering how you were doing. I hope everything continues to get better. It is really amazing how incredibly ill one can be from gluten. At 4 months into this diet, I continue to get better everyday. Take care.
  22. I think with a postive test in the past, all of your family history, in addition to your ongoing symptoms, it would be worth it to stay gluten free for a long term trial. It can take varying lengths of time for people to see results. I was seeing some improvement in the first month, but the serious improvements came several months into the diet. I also would...
  23. You may have to stay on the gluten free diet for longer to get results. Although some people get dramatic results quickly when going gluten free that is not the case for everyone. Some people have taken months to get relief from their symptoms. Perseverance is the key. Mushroom gave you excellent advice on avoiding the main allergens and remember that...
  24. I just read your post. Thank God you found this cite and you are going to advocate for your son. Poor guy, he is really suffering. I wanted to let you know that I use Walgreens brand of Pain Relieving Ointment for the rashes and sores and even for the sore bottom. It is Benzocaine. You might ask your Dr. if it is OK to use for your son. It helps...
  25. I saw these symptoms in my son too. He is 16. I knew he would be resistant to the idea of being gluten free, but I had a talk with him about all the symptoms that could be resolved if this were the problem. He intitially resisted, but because I was only buying gluten free food that is all that was available to him at home. The problem was eating pizza or...
