I am healthier at 39 than I was at 19. Celiac is the reason my ex filed for divorce and I am so glad she is out of my life. Celiac is the reason my girlfriend came into my life. Celiac women are hotter than non-celiac women.

ARCHIVED Blunted Villi No Big Deal
ianm replied to nate78's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your doctor is an idiot, find another one. -
Every night until I went gluten free. Now it never happens.

I have never had a problem with flax seed in any form.

ARCHIVED Fasting
ianm replied to super-sally888's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Only if you're healthy. I like to do a 24 hour fast once a month and find it really helps. I make sure that I have nothing going on that day because I do get tired quickly when fasting. The following day I eat lightly and don't do anything too strenuous. By the following day I feel really great and have lots of energy. -
I used to be extremely fatiguied and could easily sleep 24 hours straight. Once I went gluten free the fatigue went away and the energy levels increased. When I do get glutened the fatigue does come back but at a level that is manageable.

My previous job had the idiotic donut/bagel tradition. I refused to participate and some of my coworkers would fly into a rage about it. Some of them complained to the boss and I said sorry but this is not spelled out in the rule book. I stood my ground and eventually some of the others who were not too keen on the tradition slowly stopped participating....

I have a scar on my right thumb and that is the only way I can tell right from left. However I can write with both hands and swing a baseball bat on either side.

My doctor said that if the diet is working then that is all you really need to know. She advised against any official testing because I would now have a pre-existing condition. This would make it difficult if not impossible to get any insurance in the future.

Ursa Major, I have read all of your posts about AS and finally took the Aspie Test. My score was 152 out of 200, most likely an aspie. It sure does explain A LOT about my life and the gluten didn't make things any better. Eye contact is extremely difficult and painful for me but I force myself to do it any way. I don't like to be touched by anyone unless...

I was about 100lbs overweight and lost it all. Nini is the weight loss champion but I haven't seen her around lately.

ARCHIVED Before Diagnosis
ianm replied to Kaycee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I knew what it was but that was it. I didn't figuire it out for myself until I tried the Atkins diet. There is a chapter in the Atkins book about food allergies and intolerances and that is when the light went on. -
ARCHIVED Omg I Am Two Different People!
ianm replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you had known me before I became gluten free and did not see me until today you would not recognize me at all. I have a completely different body, mind and attitude now. -
ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
ianm replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor doesn't recommend me getting tested for just this reason. There is no way I would get tested any way because I can't afford or want to be that sick ever again. I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of gluten and I'm not about to waste one minute more. -
ARCHIVED Help
ianm replied to bknutson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In my experience celiac is the one disease that doctors don't want to diagnose because they can't make any money off of it. Think about it. To treat celiac you eat a gluten free diet and that is the only thing you can do about it. There are no pills or expensive treatments of any kind for celiac, just the diet. -
ARCHIVED Can It Really Be This Simple?
ianm replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It really is that simple. My doctor said that the diet is obviously working so what more do I really need to know? According to her the only thing an "official" diagnosis is going to do is put a pre-existing condition on my medical records and make it difficult if not impossible to get any kind of insurance in the future. -
If you wake me up in time I'll have drink of champagne. My son is at his mom's and my girlfriend has the flu and went to bed an hour ago.

ARCHIVED Redbridge Beer
ianm replied to JSNA81's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Red Bridge is okay. New Grist is a little better. I like Bards Tale the best but that is hard to find and is quite expensive. Bards Tale is a darker ale with a nice bitter hops taste. -
I think it started the day I was conceived. I always had problems with severe brain fog and fatigue. It got progressively worse in my 20's and by my mid 30's I almost lost everything. I really don't think I would be alive right now if I kept eating gluten.

ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
ianm replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm with codetalker on this one. I stopped eating that junk a long time ago and my son only eats it once in a great while. Processed cereals, even gluten free ones, make me lethargic and bloated. If I'm going to feel like that I might as well eat gluten. -
ARCHIVED Peeling Skin On Palms
ianm replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would get peeling hands and just found out that it is from a yeast infection. Some ointment seems to have solved the problem. -
ARCHIVED What's "gluten" Look Like To You?
ianm replied to L.A.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It looks like expensive shampoo because that is how I glutened myself for the first time in two years. -
ARCHIVED Calling Kroger Shoppers
ianm replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kroger does have an 800 number, don't have it on me, and they are really quite knowledgeable and helpful. I have rarely, if ever, had any problems with Kroger brand stuff. -
Christmas has turned into the most idiotic holiday around. The only reason I like this stupid holiday is because I get time off from work. I give my son some gifts and that is it. My girlfriend and I can afford whatever we want whenever we want so we just get some token gift for each other and that is it. My parents don't want or need anything except to see...

I went to "real" doctor today because I was due for a physical. I told her the whole celiac story and she said the gluten free diet is working so don't change it. She also said that since the diet is working don't bother getting tested because it will just be a waste of time and money. She also readily admitted that her knowledge of celiac is limited and...
