  1. I have *no idea* why they would want to or think to use barley grass powder. Weirdos.
  2. I've had the cookies a couple of times without problems, but I'm still trying to ascertain my level of sensitivity.
  3. I would keep the appointment for the endoscopy, just in case, but it's good that you are getting to the bottom of this!
  4. The best sources of calcium are actually green vegetables and bone-in fish, like sardines. (While containing less calcium overall, they are MUCH more efficiently used by your body because of the complimentary nutrients they contain.) I would actually just think that he's a young kid and that's what young kids do. I wanted to live off of macaroni and cheese...
  5. Cetaphil? Damn it. >_<
  6. I think this article pretty well reflects my sentiments on this topic: Open Original Shared Link Lymphoma is a terrible, terrible cancer.
  7. The thing is, 50 years ago people didn't eat out like they do now...this is a new thing. My mother has stories of a time when 'eating out' was a hot dog (Chicago-style) at a stand downtown, perhaps once a month. I would say that food 'defines' the general population more than it does us. You know, I don't eat at restaurants like I used to, and I miss it...
  8. Well, the thing to remember here is that it is your immune system hunting down the gluten. Your immune system's job is to be able to find single bacteria or single viruses and be able to respond and take them out. I can't even convey how small and insignificant viruses are, and how few it takes to successfully infect a person with an illness. Your body...
  9. Run out to your doctor's office and have one of the nurses give you a b12 shot. It's b12 deficiency. I was completely incapable of tanning for years and years. I would go out for an hour or so and burn like a lobster, then go straight back to pale after the burn peeled off. Then, about 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and started getting...
  10. Wow. I was going out to see family in Rolling Meadows the day after that. If I left a day early I could actually go to it.
  11. It's so hard being polite in society. I would have had the hardest time not saying, "Well, she's an idiot and is going to die of cancer." That obviously wouldn't win me any fans. ;D I just try to remind myself that most people are uncomfortable with people who do their own thing. A lot of people spend so much time and effort just doing things to 'fit...
  12. While wine is naturally gluten-free, some of the refining additives may contain gluten. (Or who knows what for that matter.) My gent pointed out that isinglass is used in clarifying wine, and it's derived from the bladders of fish (sturgeons.) Other additives are derived from eggs, etc. They don't have to list their ingredients, and additives vary, so...
  13. I think your friend is confusing 'gluten-free' or 'gluten-lite' with 'carb-lite'. :/ I'm mortified by the rash of so-called 'gluten-free' restaurant options.
  14. It costs a little more, but try picking up some pedialyte, or make this: Open Original Shared Link Gatorade really isn't for long-term diarrhea, and can sometimes contribute to the problem. Have you tried a lot of yogurt/probiotics, and what color is your stool? (Oh, what a terrible question. )
  15. I second those statements! Though, in addition, did they check to see if it was an H. Pylori infection causing the ulcers? Also, have you had your b-12 levels checked?
  16. I used to work for National Amusements theaters. Their stuff is fine on the gluten, but I wouldn't eat the buttery topping if you have a soy problem...leave it plain.
  17. Just don't get any of it in/near your nose. (I use chapstick for a chapped nose sometimes.) Zinc in your respiratory system can damage your sense of smell.
  18. Your situation sounds *exactly* like mine. Try to start eating again...it really helps. Let us know what your doctor says. I hope you get feeling better soon.
  19. That actually sounds exactly like something I had 4 years ago, but it wasn't Celiac. It was salmonella. After 9 days of diarrhea I got into a clinic and got some hardcore antibiotics, which cleared it up. I had diarrhea for 11 days total. I was told that it was so severe because I 1. took anti-diarrheal medications, and 2. stopped eating, thinking it...
  20. Yeah. I try to remind people - it wasn't that 50 years ago no one had peanut allergies. It's that 50 years ago, these children would die.
  21. I have Pernicious Anemia...if that is the cause of his problem, his symptoms are so severe that a simple blood test for b12 will show his counts at rock bottom, and he either already is, or will start to feel weird sensations in his hands, and have urinary incontinence. You don't have to have the auto-immune version of Pernicious anemia to get anemia from...
  22. They are parents now, but it is very apparent that *their* parents never taught them concern or compassion for others - they are just being selfish.
  23. If it is anemia that you are afraid of, have you tried calling your general practitioner and asking if you can get in to see him within the next couple of days? Most will gladly do so for suspected anemia. Another option, and the fastest for verifying your fears is to go to the ER. They can get test results in a few hours. (Sadly, I had this recent personal...
  24. I sent Deboles a message and let them know that I'll think twice about their products when I'm at the grocery store.
  25. Saving money on the pill-side: If you don't have problems with dairy, most probiotics can be replaced by good old-fashioned yogurt...they have the same cultures. You can also get vitamin supplements containing the same vitamin concentrations at the local pharmacy for cheaper, so you shouldn't need any pills/treatment from your doctor unless you have refractory...
