ARCHIVED Probiotics - How To Use, Should I Use?
IrishHeart replied to cristiana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Drink more water and this should pass. Also, "they say" you should take them on an empty stomach, but i honestly can't see why you can't take them with food. Maybe that will help. -

She had already said she has diagnosed celiac (see above) "Thanks again, and I' m sorry if that question offended some, but I am sure I am not the only person that wonders these things, No this isn't a Fad diet for me. I have probably had this disease for 10 + years! but I was only diagnosed 9 days ago. I finally got so bad that I went to a Gastrointerologist... -

ARCHIVED 5 Years Gluten Free- Encouragement For The Newbies
IrishHeart replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Without taking this thread too far off course, I want to say this: You do not need to get gluten free makeup, shampoo and conditioner unless you have a wheat allergy on top of celiac. The only thing you need to scrutinize is lip stick and possibly any facial creams that may end up in your mouth that you will swallow. I have never seen a toothpaste with... -

I remember you too, of course !! and I was thrilled to see you post in your no-nonsense, totally encouraging way on another thread the other day. ARCHIVED Glutened By Gluten-Free Tostitos?
IrishHeart replied to Kias4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've done the kale chips and roasted chickpeas, and they are good, yes....but if I'm going to have potato chips, I'm not making them too. I eat Cape Cod chips if I have a hankering. But thanks for the link!! -
ARCHIVED The Mice Are Making Me Nuts!
IrishHeart replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
there is no "cheap" G F cat food, hon. Honest. We get Merrick for our cat. It's not cheap. I won't lie. But I can't see giving a cat or dog any wheat, corn or rice fillers in their food. or this new thing with "gravy and cheese.." Not really a "gluten issue" more of a health issue for the animal. Any vet I have asked...agrees completely. They do not need... -
ARCHIVED The Mice Are Making Me Nuts!

A friend just told me her home remedy...spray peppermint oil around the area...apparently, the mice hate it. Just offering, can't verify. If nothing else, it will smell mice er, nice. -

ARCHIVED Store-Cut Pineapple
IrishHeart replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And we all gave really good answers! "off topic" usually means taking the thread elsewhere....like suddenly discussing the weather or the drug cartels running the pineapple & lime trade... I do not see any harm in the discussion as it unfolded. Actually, I learned a lot and it was kind of fun to hear from Ken who grows them!! No harm/no foul... -

ARCHIVED The Mice Are Making Me Nuts!
IrishHeart replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One night, we saw one skittle across the living room floor...we figured out he got in during the brief period we had a basement window open to throw wood down the chute for the wood stoves. . So, I have him cornered under a small jelly cupboard. I've got the flashlight on him and I see he's terrified.... Field mice have big eyes....they look like they... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Gluten-Free Tostitos?
IrishHeart replied to Kias4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't have those darn things in the house. Absolutely zero self-control with those. Seriously, what IS IT with potato chips?? -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Gluten-Free Tostitos?
IrishHeart replied to Kias4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have an intolerance for tomatoes, but it really isn't a problem for the vast majority of celiacs. I always suggest to people before they start thinking "it's gluten" to just remove the food item in question for a few weeks, then add it back in. I can't tell you how many times people think it's trace gluten but then find out it was the acid in tomatoes... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Gluten-Free Tostitos?
IrishHeart replied to Kias4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I subscribe to Gluten Free watchdog testing reports . I can't post the entire report about the chips because it is breaking all kinds of user agreement rules but I think i can tell you this part: TCC3 BB 21 MAY 13 < 5 ppm gluten < 5 ppm gluten < 5 ppm gluten It's highly unlikely it is the chips. but, then again, who knows? -
ARCHIVED The Mice Are Making Me Nuts!
IrishHeart replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A few more cats. (although Laura's idea is great, we had no luck with one of those things. Not sure why) We lived in the remote countryside for many years. We never had a mouse problem except for in the garage. They like to build nests in the engine area of the cars in winter. Traps work somewhat, but the more kitties on patrol--less mice. Good... -

ARCHIVED Store-Cut Pineapple
IrishHeart replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a nifty core/slicer right here....I call him "the hubs". We almost always get the whole pineapple at the farmer's market but the few times i was lazy and got the already cut ones--I thought they went south rather quickly. The juice is excellent for marinades, I agree...or sometimes, I just drink it plain. Great enzymes for the gut!!. ...
