The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am going to make some roasted tomatillos (with fingers crossed that salsa verde is kinder to me than red tomatoes) and then, make chicken enchiladas. but first, I am headed for a tool around town on my new bike --with the awesome new fiber optic handlebar streamers that I received yesterday (omg, thank you, dear Ski! they rock!! ) and then, head to... -
ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Corn Sensitivity.
IrishHeart replied to GFAnnie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I agree. As I said to the OP. I managed to get corn back after a while and I was very glad about that. I love corn! Just to add: Some celiacs do have a problem with oats which contain the prolamin avenin and/or corn which contains the prolamin zein. As to the never ending "possible cross contamination issue"--which comes up on nearly every single... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Been Glutened By Ground Beef?
IrishHeart replied to across's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with the "butcher case" scenario, of course! that's my point about breaded items in the meat case and the seafood section cases. There are various things that may contain breaded items in there. I would be very leery of that ground meat.. I was addressing the plain, packaged beef. It's gluten free. Of course there IS a difference between... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Been Glutened By Ground Beef?
IrishHeart replied to across's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You are saying two different things here, hon. (1) yes, meats and seafood can be mixed with bread crumbs at the store for sale (2) these things are not packaged at a plant Anything that is, is labeled as "may contain"...fill in the blank. (3) plain ground beef--is just that Thanks to labeling laws, this is not that difficult. They have... -
"His epic fail was going in.... legs first ?" The good news is: "The artwork was not damaged during the incident." and this young man is what? now quite possibly, doomed for life for being the guy that did not know this rule : " HEAD first?? to quote Laura.."badum Tsh!" (always wondered how to write a cymbal crash) and I say...

IrishHeart replied to across's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do not know where you are all getting this information, but let's just back up for a second. (1) meat is not cross contaminated "at the plant" (2) supermarkets may mix up a meatloaf mix, sure...but they do not put breadcrumbs in it--it's just veal, pork, beef! Unless they LABEL IT AS SUCH! (3) all meats have a black bottomed stryo package yes... -

oh you betcha.....I do love my bunnies! but I am afraid my list would sound much like K's....I am a huge animal lover and it would be difficult to choose any "favorites"...I love horses very much, dolphins, manatees, sea turtles...and of course, dogs, cats, birds of all species, but I favor finches and hummingbirds--the more exotic the better ... and peacocks... -

kettle corn is just sweetened popcorn. http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-kettle-corn-at-home-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-192917 or this lady recommends "Take a trip to the county fair with a bowl of old-fashioned Kettle Corn. Pork tenderloin on the grill, some baked spaghetti squash, maybe some garlic and EVOO sauteed zucchini noodles. Not very hungry for some reason, but oddly, I want kettle corn now.... -
ARCHIVED How To Convince Bf That Cross Contamination Is A Problem...
IrishHeart replied to SoLacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd like to add one more thing and please, take this the right way: even though I react to very small trace amounts of gluten cc, I never talk about "how sensitive I am"...it just makes it seem like we are making ourselves sound "super duper special" and perhaps a bit over-the-edge on the paranoia scale. lol The truth is, every one that sustains the... -
ARCHIVED How To Convince Bf That Cross Contamination Is A Problem...
IrishHeart replied to SoLacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Q.How bad is even a tiny pretzel with gluten? A.The presence of the wheat protein in that tiny pretzel will activate "T cells," which are the body's defense against foreign invaders. The T cells then release certain chemicals that "would be valuable in the face of a microbial attack, but in this instance, they do no good, and harm the intestinal cells responsible... -
Hi Dan, Please do not stop eating gluten until you get tested for celiac disease. You need to be consuming it for the testing to be accurate. You do not really have delayed puberty, hon--that pertains to kids younger than you who have not matured physically at all. Honestly, it is unwise to assume you have this disease and go gluten free without...

The difference between a chemist and an engineer is....my chemist husband felt cross contamination was THE biggest concern. He worked in labs--he knows what even minute traces of anything can do. My recovery and good health are all that matters to him. My BIL and several good friends are engineers and my hubs worked with an entire divisions of them and... -
