  1. I lost coffee and dairy, citrus, soy and about 10 other foods for a few years before and a whole year after DX because the caffeine really agitated me and my GI tract was a burning mess from mouth to rectum. I had GERD, IBS, etc. etc..and felt like death would be kinder. Anything can give you grief when your gut is still damaged. Now, I drink brewed...
  2. I agree with Takala about the neurologist. I had so many neuro symptoms before I was diagnosed, including trouble focusing, poor night vision, vertigo , ataxia, parasthesia etc. and you should cover all your bases.
  3. google articles written by Dr. Alessio Fasano, Dr. Peter Green, Dr. Joseph Murray, Dr. Stephano Guandalini Those are the celiac doctors I'd quote from in my speech. Dieticians Shelley Case and Tricia Thompson have websites with info too. Also, search PubMed
  4. Your symptoms sure sound a lot like celiac to me. I doubt your test is a false positive, hon and I would start to learn about celiac and how it is treated by the gluten free diet. You could have a secondary lactose intolerance, common in celiac and it often resolves after a few months after being gluten-free as the villi heal. Most doctors do the endoscopy...
  5. Thanks, Addy! I am looking forward to it, despite my less than enthusiastic "tone" right now. Man, this thing really knocked me down, but not out. Hope you feel better very soon!.
  6. Nick, Neg on the celiac panel is just one part of the puzzle. (and some people, like me are falsely negative on blood panels) Not trying to scare you or muddy the waters, just relating the facts. You could still be gluten intolerant. Definitely, get your eyes examined, because blurry vision is nothing to mess with, but if you feel better off gluten...
  7. Getting some appetite back (yaay!) so Hamburgers and sweet potato fries tonight. I'm just making whatever is in the freezer the next 2 days, because we're packing up to be gone for 5 weeks. I think this viral gastroenteritis is about gone (vanished that thinger with serious mega- doses of probiotics!) and we head out Thursday AM. I do hope...
  8. I like the chips. I use them to bake. That's about it. (just being honest!) the cookies just did not thrill me.
  9. You'd be surprised at the number of people who report years of lingering problems from antibiotics.(I was one of them. I have had to dose with probiotics for years to right the ship. I had no detectable "good guy" bacteria upon diagnosis.) Again, this is just my experience, but unbalanced gut flora causes a whole host of problems. Yes, do keep us posted...
  10. Unfortunately, that's just about all the advice I got -- "just go gluten free and dairy free for the first six months". If I had not been my own advocate, I'd have never resolved my Vitamin D, B-12 and Folate deficiencies. I just kept going back to him and saying "test me for this now, please". and he did. Then, I found a celiac-savvy GI doc and he was so...
  11. Testing for celiac is a blood panel, then an endoscopy with biopsy (not a colonoscopy) if that changes your mind at all. (technically, there is no gluten allergy--do you mean you are allergic to wheat?)
  12. Yes, it's much better than it was, but still not a "thick" as I would like it. No bald patches anymore though (yaay!) . I remain hopeful.
  13. Hi Nick, You could have a gluten issue, but let's wait before we speculate too much. Your symptoms could be caused by any number of things, including a reaction to the antibiotics. (If I had been given a high dose of antibiotics, I would feel pretty lousy myself and I would take probiotics for a few days--or longer--- to replenish my good gut bacteria...
  14. The Country Life gluten-free line of vitamins is "everything free" (not sure about corn, you'll have to give them a call) and Custom probiotics is most definitely gluten-free, DF. SF and corn free (I I called and asked him) as is Culturelle. DF and JarroDophilis AF (allergy free) probiotic. (again, not sure about the corn aspect)
  15. FreeMe, if you feel better off gluten, then do what you think is best. I just wanted to make you aware of the testing procedures, if you had not considered all of them yet. You know what's best.. Best wishes to you!
  16. Title of the topic thread caught my eye and I have to tell you guys my GI doc told me last week that he heard from his patient that a doc around here gave a presentation to a local celiac group and concluded with the comment that "it's okay to cheat once and a while because the diet is too stringent and a little bit won't hurt." I said Holy crap,...
  17. The Enterolab fecal fat and stool tests are not considered valid tests for celiac. I have not seen anyone (including people in my family and circle of friends) who have not received a similar report like the one you have posted. Word for word. Makes me skeptical. IMO. The Univ. of Chicago Celiac Center has this posted on their website: Why don...
  18. I had anterior blepharitis (before DX) and it has not recurred in the 2 years of being gluten-free. Since "itises" mean inflammation, (and I had/have a bunch of "itises", ) I am never surprised when someone reports inflammation anywhere in the body from gluten/celiac.
  19. That's today! so, happy Birthday, Colleen!!!
  20. Most drug stores (Walgreen's CVS) and walmart's and iherb. com, amazon, etc.
  21. I agree. I never like to say how long it has taken me to get relief from the excruciating muscle and bone/joint pain I have from celiac because I know I am not the norm. Most people see significant improvement in weeks or even a few months. I'm 2 years post-DX and still struggle, and I have had intense physical therapy and massages all this time. I...
  22. I am also a Nuts.com fan. Fresh, certified gluten-free and well worth the shipping charges when I buy in bulk. Large selection of gluten-free products.
  23. Some people do lose a lot of weight from unDxed celiac, yet some do not. And yes, many people can lose weight initially when they give up breads. pastas, wheat-filled goodies, but once the gut starts absorbing nutrients again, weight gain can occur.
  24. Have you had your thyroid checked? Could cause the same symptoms (cold, fatigue, muscle aches) Just a suggestion.
  25. I have changed mine up from time to time to get a broad spectrum on board (I had no detectable "good guys" upon diagnosis, so I figure it can't hurt. ) I have used these--all gluten-free: Custom Probiotics Culturelle (even my GI doc recommends that one to patients) Allergen-Free Jarro-Dophilus AF
