  1. oh no, sorry, hon. Hope you feel better today! Probably just a bug of some sort? I'm going with some homemade turkey soup today. No rice or noodles though, just vegs. The hubs has decided he wants to lose 20 lbs. (he has a bit of "middle" from the holidays) and since he works out religiously at the gym, it must have come from all the festivities...
  2. You still have some left???? Shroom, you are a woman of exceptional willpower.Kudos!
  3. EXACTLY! I've never been able to wear "one size fits all" either, Shroom. Ample hips and boobs (I prefer the term Rubenesque) and unfortunately, not long enough legs to be a Rockette. Mo, At DX, I could not eat much of anything (citrus, corn, acidic foods, GFoats, legumes, dairy, soy etc--all killers for my gut) In time, I've been...
  4. I find this discussion very interesting. And no, Opa, there is no special diagnosis for super sensitive. My GI doctor (very celiac-savvy and knowledgeable) deemed me "sensitive" (as I react rather strongly with many symptoms--and for weeks-- to a trace CC glutening) yet I am able to use McCormick spices when I cannot use my own fresh herbs and have absolutely...
  5. You know I love bacon. You know I love cake. I do not really think I want them together. Maybe I'm wrong and it tastes great, but I'm just not that intrigued by it.
  6. We're having beef and vegetable soup tonight. Sadly, there is no cake in the house ( man, now I want cake......)
  7. Dad! Karen is being a poopyhead again!!!!!!!!! Okay, hon. Sorry, not meant as a nag. it's the teacher/mama hen in me. Your brain needs protein and I know you're working hard this semester! Karen's right.... If you wanna eat cake, eat cake!!!
  8. Good for you! So happy you're doing these fun things!! Have a great trip, Colleen. xx
  9. You use the word "react". Do you mean you get a stomach ache? Bad bowels movements? These are not unusual with corn, or any food for that matter when you are still healing your gut. Time is the reason you may be able to tolerate more foods. As you have removed all gluten, your gut starts to heal, the villi regrow and the inflammation in your body starts...
  10. The discussion about this maize study was raised some time ago, if you would like to read this: It is not a gluten cross reaction, according to Skylark, who is a scientist. (I miss her! She always had access to some interesting materials and could interpret some of the more complex articles for the members) .
  11. No, on the damage to your intestines. Not the same gluten protein that celiacs need to avoid. Take it out for a while then add it back in. Some people tolerate various forms of corn (starch, flour) but not the whole corn kernels--and vice versa.. And frankly, many people have trouble digesting it fully--if you get my drift . (like me, but I love...
  12. You're a rock star, babes! You are one determined cookie! Good for you--feeling healthy is what it's all about. I'm over-the-moon delighted for you!
  13. Yes, I am replying to myself (we can if we want to! ) and I am adding: But then, go back and eat some real dinner. **see my note--I meant dessert FIRST is okay,sometimes...we still need protein and a real meal, hon! Always a fav here too!! and yes, excitement about cupcakes is something I share with you.
  14. This dinner chat crowd loves people who skip dinner and go straight for the cupcakes. Those sound yummy.
  15. Glad it worked out---- and a stuffed hubs is a happy hubs (at least in my house!) cheers!
  16. You bet---is there still time to make the pizza???
  17. Specturm Unrefined Coconut Oil is less expensive than the others and just as good IMHO. I know you're in Canada, but it's about 8.99 US$ Virgin coconut oil is superior to the refined coconut oils. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Hope I got to you early enough for the game time pizza! Natural flavors do not necessarily mean gluten. If there is any wheat or wheat derivatives in the pepperoni, the label will say "contains wheat." That's the beauty of food labeling laws. And if there is any malt, oats. rye or barley in the product, it should be listed in the ingredients. If you...
  19. Just so you know, you are replying to an old thread and the OP has not been on site since July 2011 and may not see your reply.
  20. Hi and welcome to the forum. There are many myths that circulate on the internet about gluten on stamps, envelopes, etc. but they simply are not true. Please read this article by Tricia Thompson, RD--a celiac nutrition specialist. Open Original Shared Link
  21. Real Life with Celiac Disease Melinda Dennis, MS, RD, LDN Daniel Leffler, MD. MS The Celiac Center at Beth israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. I am reading this book and find it is an excellent resource for us. I've read many books on celiac disease and tons of pretty dry research, but this one seems to cover a great deal of information...
  22. Updated 2/1/13 An excellent resource for celiacs ( Honestly wish I had found it 2 years ago--would have saved me a lot of research time!!) Still plenty in it for me to learn. Articles by more than 50 international experts. Not "too techie", short enough chapters ... and very enlightening. Covers just about everything imaginable: the disease itself...
  23. That sounds yummy, K. I'm going out on a ledge tonight and trying: Quinoa and black bean stuffed peppers tonight. Making some bread for the hubs today: Bette Hagman's Four Flour Blend. (it's very good) For SuperBowl, I am thinking turkey soup and wings--but maybe honey glazed instead of "hot"? Don't want to screw up my progress .
  24. No peer-reviewed scientific evidence/articles whatsoever of this "cross reactivity" theory or the "tests" that prove it. I have looked for them in Pub Med. No celiac specialists support this "theory" at this time --nor do they find any of those Cyrex lab tests valid. I find it astounding that someone at a GIG meeting is telling you this. Unless...
  25. I do not know for sure, either (can't find it listed as a side effect) but I can tell you that my friend Suze with MS also treats herself with interferon with no blood pressure issues. Also, my friend Elaine is treated with interferon for thrombocythemia and her blood pressure is normal. What does her doctor think?
