The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh yes. 2 weeks on this whole 30 plan and I saw a major difference. It was rocky at first, but now, I see: no more bloating and a weight loss (I suspect )and much better sleep. I also learned I have a histamine issue and I took those HH foods out which helped reduce the burning sensations in my skin and bones AND I learned that (and this is no surprise... -

If you start wanting things like moose brains, elmer's glue or bat guano, call me and I'll talk you out of it. I had to make my flourless chocolate ganache cake for my Mum's Birthday. It smells like heaven in here and I can't even have any of it....plus I have to eat out in two restaurants this weekend while traveling. Wish me luck--and a giant gluten... -

ARCHIVED Have I Gone Gluten Crazy?
IrishHeart replied to deals88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure where you read that information, but I do not think that is quite true, hon. If this were the case, we'd be soaking up any number of high levels of chemicals, etc.when taking showers, swimming in pools, splashing paint or gasoline on ourselves accidentally or swimming in the ocean. And I could probably rub a loaf of Wonderbread on my legs and... -

ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
IrishHeart replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The modified Marsh classification of gluten-induced small-intestinal damage has been updated as of April 2012 Stage 0 Preinfiltrative mucosa; up to 30% of patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) or gluten ataxia have small-intestinal biopsy specimens that appear normal Stage 1 Increase in the number of intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) to more... -

ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
IrishHeart replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If she was consuming gluten and the blood test and biopsy were negative (6-8 samples sounds thorough--according to the major celiac research sites) then he concluded she did not have active celiac disease. He followed the diagnostic protocol. (although some people think that needs work.) There has been much debate in the medical community over this protocol... -
ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
IrishHeart replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never heard this before. That does not make sense to me because why wouldn't it be Celiac then?--since Celiac is specifically diagnosed by the Marsh scale. -
ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
IrishHeart replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You absolutely did the right thing, Mom! Some people need to see "proof" and if lab results work, then all the better. Just wanted you to know the current thoughts on NCGI testing, if you were unaware. Looks like you're very aware! Best wishes! -
ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
IrishHeart replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hate to say this but, right now, there is no valid test for "gluten sensitivity". According to Dr. Alessio Fasano, a leading celiac researcher "If anyone claims they have a test that is specifically for gluten sensitivity" (such as stool or saliva tests) "there is no such thing, though I'm not ruling it out in the future." Another celiac... -
ARCHIVED Where Can I Find Gluten Free Rice Krispies?
IrishHeart replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If all else fails, and no stores nearby carry them, you could order them in bulk (4- packs) from the big online store known as Am --zon (can't provide you a link as they spam the forum and it will not post) -
ARCHIVED I Was Never Tested
IrishHeart replied to langone7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
These ailments may also resolve off gluten. If others in your family have these symptoms, I suspect they also have gluten intolerance issues. So many celiacs are told they have "Fibro" (I heard that word too) IMHO, this becomes a catch-all wastebasket dead-end diagnosis when the doctors do not know why someone has muscle and joint pain, "IBS" and fatigue... -
ARCHIVED Grass Fed Vs. Grain Fed Meat?
IrishHeart replied to KikiB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will admit to this one too. I prefer the taste of grass fed beef and I prefer KerryGold Irish butter, too. KIKIB--there is no reason to fear meats because they are fed grains. There is absolutely no evidence that I can find (and believe me, I have looked) suggesting that gluten grains somehow magically enter the animal's meat. And I eat enough... -

In a month or so. (..a few posts back I explained I had to cut out high histamine foods.) I had lamb patty and hubs had sausages. I had sweet potato and he had yukon golds. We both had asparagus. Someday soon, I hope we can both eat the same things once more. what a pain in the arse this is. -

ARCHIVED Supplements To Help Heal A Damaged Leaky Gut?
IrishHeart replied to LFitts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would honestly suggest cutting out dairy just for a while. Sorry she has to forego cheese for a bit, but temporary lactose intolerance is quite common with celiac and as the villi regrow and her gut heals, she'll likely get that easy digestion of dairy back. If not, she could take LactAid pills. You can substitute in So Delicious coconut milk and coconut... -

I knew I could count on you for the "unicorns and rainbows shooting out of our butts" silver lining thinger. I can't have any shrooms right now (only you ) and I did use garlic and it turned out just fab. Hubs is a big beef and broc lover and gave me the "oh you can make this anytime, babe" line--which means "it's good" Thanks... -

Despite my frustration (! #%$#@! ) with having to go without high histamine foods (and if you saw the exclusionary list of foods, you'd wanna jump off a cliff) and no grains and no cheese, and NO BOOZE I am thinking that having this painiful burning skin and bones crisis was perhaps a good thing. It just hammered it home that even after 2 years... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Visit, Finally A Good Doctor
IrishHeart replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I told you! He's the man. I have sent 8 people to him. & 6 were celiacs. One had ulcerative colitis, one "possible celiac" ---but certainly NCGI. I am so glad you finally decided to go. He is one of a kind. He " gets it". They are very good about giving you the lab test results in that office. Ask Michelle to print them off and take them...
