ARCHIVED Very Quick Dinner Ideas
IrishHeart replied to Beantree's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you have a slow cooker? LOTS of recipes on here. Also, think this way: Any meal you have enjoyed all along can be altered. Use So Delicious coconut milk for recipes in place of dairy. You can have Pasta. Get corn or rice pasta (BiAglut, Sam's Mill, Tinkyada, etc. ) and use your own homemade sauce. Want Meatballs or meatloaf? Just sub gluten... -
ARCHIVED Share Favorite Oatmeal Cookie Recipes
IrishHeart replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make these for my hubs. I can't "do oats" yet. I hold out hope. He likes raisins in them, but I added chocolate chips instead once and he did not complain. If I were eating them, that's what I'd want in them! My gluten-free Mom makes these too and shares them with GEs and she said no one knows the difference. They are very good. They are from... -
A man sees a sign outside a house - 'Talking Dog For Sale.' He rings the bell, the owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back garden. The man sees a very nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there. "Do you really talk?" he asks the dog. "Yes," the Labrador replies. After recovering from the shock of hearing the dog talk...

For many years, if I wanted to, I could drink 2 Bombay Sapphire martinis ice cold/up (that's a lot of rocket fuel ) and feel "just right". This was before I was very sick from celiac disease and lost 90 lbs. I did not touch alcohol for 2 years because I was ill and my gut was a mess. Now, I am a wimp. Cannot do what I used to do. I asked...

I know someone who does. When hubs snow-blows our ridiculously long driveway, he wears this dark, bizarre woolen cap/snow mask similar to this hat. He looks like he is about to rob a bank. When he comes back inside, we have to pry the thing off him because YES, his nose runs and his eyes tear up and so little icicles form everywhere !! and then... -

Xanthan Gum is a microbial polysaccharide derived from the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris. It is produced primarily from cellulose from corn or cabbage. Xanthan gum is used for lowering blood sugar and total cholesterol in people with diabetes. It is also used as a laxative. Xanthan gum is sometimes used as a saliva substitute in people with... -

Holy crappers, Squirmy, I think this may be the first time I may have been cited as a "worst case scenario" (at least that I know of--in print. My Doc uses me as his "worst case" all the time) .....if it makes you guys feel positive about your own situations, then I am DELIGHTED. okay, here is a way for anyone reading this right now to feel...

I have already put on the LBS. in the last few months (obviously, I have started to absorb again ) and I have to watch it. I will definitely keep them in mind. I make everything from scratch, but with summer coming...I don't want to spend that much time in the hot kitchen.

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge/ Beer!
IrishHeart replied to HopefulMama23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten builds up in the system and the beer put you over the edge. Sorry, but at least, now you know for sure! No gluten for you. I hope you recover quickly. My suggestion? drink lots of water!! -
I dunno...hold on, I'll ask hubs...."babes, am I beautiful?" ...wait for it. He says "Yes, dear".

She IS a pretty woman. Yeah, I have to agree. I am still battling the hair thing and the "I look so old thing".... then again, someone said recently, OMG! you look 10 years younger...but if I looked 10 years older when I was sick...hey! that just puts me right back where I was before I got sick... hey!!!! but yes, we are off topic...back...

ARCHIVED Constipation
IrishHeart replied to razzle51's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
DRINK WATER!! Lack of hydration is the number 1 reason why people get backed up. Start your day with 8-16 oz. of water every morning. then, take 1 TBLSP. of ground flaxseed in 8 oz. of water. eat more fiber rich foods: leafy greens, quinoa, brown rice, dried cranberries and gluten-free oats (if tolerated). and take a Probiotic to balance... -
ARCHIVED Having Extreme Spasms?
IrishHeart replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your post has many questions/topics. Muscle spasms, weakness and seizures can occur with Celiac. Are you a celiac? You mention "slip ups" (do not know what that means?) and so it will be hard for any of us to say definitely what is going on. and I do not know much about crystal light. Caffeine causes heart palps, etc, in some people, but again... -
well, I was just going to say this, but....I'll just say DITTO!! and yeah, what SHE said !

ARCHIVED Wheat?
IrishHeart replied to krystynycole's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree! At least, they have labeled it: "contains wheat". That is always helpful. I suggest you do not use them. But if you cannot return them, put them in a food pantry donation. They can always use vitamins. Country Life vitamins are Certified G F and they are not very expensive. -
