  1. Carolyn, It is best to check back with the doc when something does not heal properly. We can help out by sharing our experiences, but obviously, we are not giving medical advice here because we can't. (even though most of us know waaaay more than some of the ones we've encountered) I am wondering ----how you are making out??
  2. Taking probiotics is beneficial and should not harm you--unless you have pancreatitis and/or Crohn's--from what I understand. Then, it is not recommended. There are no major harmful side effects that I have ever read about either, but they may cause some gas and mild bloating, but rarely Diarrhea. Since it is used to treat diarrhea, I am honestly not...
  3. YES!! glad to hear it !! probiotics are amazingly beneficial to our ravaged guts. Just stick with them. I'll let DomAct answer about the carrot juice--but I am thinking she juices it herself.
  4. I am always very sad when I read a post such as yours. We just had another young woman tell us she would rather eat a dinner roll and be happy for the moment than care about the future consequences. I gave her a similar "lecture" (so get ready ) and told her if she were my daughter, I'd boot her in the arse (figuratively speaking) for being so ridiculous...
  5. Nope, occasional cheating is NEVER worth it---it just reboots the autoimmume response. Neuro issues are the SLOWEST to resolve, so those ugly buggers last a few weeks. I hate that anxiety stuff...yuck. I'll give you my "mom" tsk, tsk (waggling my finger) and then say---"Hope you learned your lesson, young man!!" Seriously, though---not a good idea...
  6. If you are newly DXed, dairy may be the issue. Ice cream could well cause you the big D. Secondary lactose intolerance is common in celiac and is often a temporary issue --lactase is produced in the tips of the villi--and once the villi grow back, you can tolerate dairy once more. If you experience bloating, D, nausea and you are sure it's not gluten...
  7. You should not be paranoid at all, hon! This is nothing to be worried about. Everyone is different and healing occurs at different rates. Healthy Smoothies are all right!! Cleansing diets are not a good idea--that was a response to the original poster who was not feeling well. The one she talks of has minimal nutrition and is keeping her bowels...
  8. Antibiotics kill my stomach, too --sorry, kiddo Keep the probiotics on board. Drink as much water as you can stand so you do not get dehydrated and hang in there. That is good news that the awful pain has stopped. I had a"bug" this week too...ugh! But I fought it off pretty good--could have been worse! ah well, as my Dad used to say "This...
  9. Lisa, I use NOW brand vitamins. I spoke with the company and they assured me no gluten, dairy, soy, etc. Because my sweet hubs is a chemist, just for fun, he wanted to try those Gluten Test kits on my various vitamins & supplements--since those are the only things I take ingest regularly from a package that would have me wondering about the CC issue...
  10. I'm with you. The human body has an amazing capacity to heal--given the right circumstances. I am often told (about my symptoms and my recovery) " well, that's not possible!" and "I have never seen THAT before in my 30- something years!" blah blah blah ....and so, I just listen to my body and my brain now---they are (almost) always right! Whatever...
  11. I think I may have told you this already, but I had the same thing going on for many months after going gluten-free. It took a while for my system to calm down. I found that I NEEDED PROTEIN with any carb I ate--fruit or starchy---to stop that nausea, jittery feeling, spaciness and afternoon fatigue. I also needed B-12, Folate, D supplementation. ...
  12. No, honey---I bet we will eat everything we want there---with reckless abandon. Is it the tomatoes you can't have in this recipe, Shroom?? Maybe there is a way around the tomato paste--another thickening agent---anyone???
  13. No snow here! None. Zip. Nada. weird....After last year, this is a miracle!! So glad you are feeling better--maybe your de-crumbing efforts have helped knock down the exposure Stay well!!!
  14. I had to use a puffer for a while myself and my poor brother has terrible asthma, so I know how frightening it can be to gasp for breath. Are you feeling better now, by the way?? Hope so.
  15. A contact wheat allergy IS different, Charlotte and in your case, you could very well have a reaction. I think Gemini is referring to people who are celiacs here--citing that the dangers of ingesting gluten from a TV remote are --well, pretty remote, unless you lick it. You are dealing with a different issue--and contact with wheat is more difficult to...
  16. One study from 1998 says it does: Open Original Shared Link One study from 2003 says it does NOT: Open Original Shared Link
  17. uh-oh....Cheating is most unwise, my friend. Why are you doing this???? Hope your anxiety and other symptoms do not come roaring back. Mine always do with any accidental CC.
  18. GEMINI raises an important point about elevated levels, even with dietary compliance. The diabetes may be why the levels are still reading high and in time, they will come down ---as both she and Peter suggest. I find it interesting that the information from the CDC website concludes with--and "in many healthy people, too." We often say "there are no false...
  19. Pondy, Thought of you when I saw this and wondered how you are doing??? Open Original Shared Link
  20. Yes, the higher acidic foods bothered me for a long time as well. Then, gradually I could eat one, then the next, and so on. Spices like ginger and turmeric were out for a while, too. I ate very plainly--and blandly--- for a long time. That was very difficult for a major foodie and gourmet cook like I am. I cried about it often, believe me. I just wanted...
  21. Actually, Only 2 Butterball products contain gluten and they indicate WHEAT on labels. From the Butterball website: Do Butterball® products contain any allergens like gluten? Butterball product labels let consumers know whether any of the top eight allergens may be present in the product. For example, a label may read “contains wheat and dairy.” ...
  22. um....If this suggestion was for me?--thank you, but no thanks!-- you may have missed the point of what I said in my post to LOVE2TRAVEL. I was encouraging her to not listen to those who say we cannot rehab and be well and that I do NOT need a scooter. (And neither of us can sit comfortably for long--much less in one of those things anyway because of lumbar...
  23. Aha! That's a good sign!! Sometimes, that's all it is---contributing to the ill feelings. I thought every food was a problem for me too. My list of "No-nos" was LONG--tomatoes, orange juice, coffee, soy, beans, chocolate, salicylates, fructose, etc... When my gut started healing, and the inflammation from the celiac/gluten was lessened, I...
  24. This is alarmingly ignorant!! She knows NOTHING about celiac disease if she made this irresponsible statement. You need to be serious about your diet, hon. Not paranoid, just careful. It is true that you may not have an immediate anaphylactic response like in a peanut allergy, but if left untreated, it will continue the autoimmune response and...
  25. And that pie was good!! thanks for posting the recipe on the other thread. Hubs had 2 portions--always a good sign!
