ARCHIVED Could It Be?
IrishHeart replied to researchmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OMG. Where do I start? In my humble opinion, your daughter exhibits multiple symptoms of celiac disease. Certainly you have read the list of symptoms and already know this and your mother's instincts are strong. Waiting until FEBRUARY--for what?? So she can remain ill??? This doctor is of no use to you. Time for a celiac-savvy GI doctor. A 12- year... -
ARCHIVED Finding The Right Combination Of Learning Sources
IrishHeart replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's not really a workbook exactly, but the layout seems like one. I found it to be an excellent resource and it explained why I burned so much and how I developed all my deficiencies, etc. It all made sense. The GI tract is explained in such detail. Hope you find it helpful. -
That won't solve your problem, Boog! C'mon now! Giving up dairy is temporary for most celiacs. A few months so the villi can heal and you don't feel like crap. Get coconut milk (So Delicious brand), you won't notice any difference. High in calcium, tastes great. They make a great coconut "ice cream" too. Get Earth Balance soy free spread....

heyteach...see my post above. Maybe it will get you started with shopping and menu ideas. It is not as restrictive and difficult as it seems in the beginning and most foods are the same ones you already eat! Stop viewing yourself as a "burden", honey---this is not your "fault" and it is not the end of the world, even if it seems like it is right now.... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Abdominal Pain
IrishHeart replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes, my ENTIRE rib cage, chest, back---it all HURT LIKE HELL. Bone, joint, muscles all swell from inflammation from celiac. I went UnDXed for so long and my doctor now says it's criminal what happened to me. Really? "typical celiac symptoms" do not include abdominal pain ???...what a crock!! These idiots are so clueless!!! I still have... -
ARCHIVED Depression/anxiety/brain Fog
IrishHeart replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have tried a few but my doc recently suggested Culturelle (the gluten-free, dairy free one) as it was studied by researchers at Tufts Univ. A few others I suggested it to felt it "did the job" as well. Your B-12 and D were low, it seems, but that's not unusual for us. My B-12 and Folate levels came up within a few months with supps (the folic... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Abdominal Pain
IrishHeart replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always love it when a doctor says "That never happens in Celiac"... I also love it when someone tries to tell ME what my level of pain "should be" or how it cannnot possibly be "that bad". The last time a doctor said this to me, suggesting I was exaggerating it or I would be curled up in a ball, crying in bed all day long, I said "I did cry this morning... -
ARCHIVED Depression/anxiety/brain Fog
IrishHeart replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with SAINTMAYBE--- as I said, all those neurotransmitters and vitamins/minerals/amino acids are impacted because the gut is impacted. My B-12, D, Folate (B9), cal and mag, potassium and K deficiencies certainly added to my anxiety, brain fog and depression. Once properly supplemented, the brain fog and anxiety disappeared (gradually) and they... -

ARCHIVED Depression/anxiety/brain Fog
IrishHeart replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No, it doesn't sound crazy to me. I took myself off the meds after I asked another doctor about my results and lack of thyroid antibodies and he told me he did not know why I was on it in the first place. I had asked the endo's NP repeatedly--for 2 years-- if I needed to be on this med and he said yes. Well, kiddo, it could be that you do not need... -

Not sure why you keep taking yourself off and on thyroid medicine, but that may be the problem. Did an endocrinologist prescribe this for medicine for you? Are you, in fact, hypothyroid? If so, why do you keep messing with the dosage, hon? Either you need it or you do not, but it is not advisable to go off it randomly without supervision.... -

ooh, I was so close! Well, of course you are a " chef at heart" ! I am, too. And being ill and unable to create really hit me hard, but I am making up for it now!! My best friend is a trained chef and she says I am better at it than some of her colleagues because I cook with my heart and create and try new things. I am crazy enough to try ridiculous... -

hmm...I wonder...Can you use an egg substitute?? Like EnerG? I meant to add: in the rolls....use an egg sub in the rolls. As for strata or casserole, that is going to be tricky. hmm...but I love a good challenge... -
ARCHIVED Off Gluten 2 Weeks!

Kathy, Yes, many people see a remission/improvement in many other autoimmune conditions. My alleged Hashimito's before DX? --well, I do not even have it-- and I took meds for 2 years for no good reason. That was my experience, though. My thyroid is perfectly fine. Skylark answered the question for you , but in case you ask about eggs next (because many do ) here is a link to FAQ about gluten and if it is "passed through animals into their meat" or absorbed through the skin, etc. If a packaged meat is marinated or has a spice rub or coating, however, then that's a whole different issue. ARCHIVED When Do You Decorate For Christmas?
IrishHeart replied to samie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We start the "holiday season" with my Bday near Thanksgiving, but wait to put the tree up until at least Dec. 5th-ish ( our anniversary.) Dec 13 is hub's Bday and I like to see if I can S-t-R-E-T-C-H that tree until Jan. 6 (which is Armenian Christmas and the Feast of the Epiphany) It's traditional. We still do stockings (even at our age! ) We have... -

To answer your question, I am fortunate to have a best friend of a husband who stuck by me while I was very, very sick and in agonizing bone/muscle/joint/nerve pain. Took me to dozens of doctors in 3 different states in 3 years. Never gave up on me and never once made me feel bad that our life had come to a near stand-still because of my "mysterious" illness...
