  1. I think you should do whatever you need to do to feel better! But please do consider my thoughts about isolating foods to test intolerances. It will save you from guessing. Cheers!
  2. ... I'd eat anything (maybe even those intestines I just dissed) if you gave me enough scotch with it
  3. yeah, as much as I am willing to try anything, I draw the line at intestines. ugh. wow, Babs...you do get around! Poland, Greece, Uruguay...you should write a column..."A celiac eats her way around the world..."
  4. You bet, hon--anytime!
  5. now, that's truth in advertising... something we label readers can all appreciate
  6. I do not use many pre-packaged mixes, but I did have her brownies once and had no issues whatsoever. I usually react pretty quickly if there is gluten CC. Her facility is dedicated. If I do use packaged products, I only use ones from dedicated facilities (but that's just my preference:) What kind of reaction are you having?
  7. Not really sure what his intentions were (why does he care if it does not affect him--nothing else to grouse about today?) and he does NOT know about CC at all or he wouldn't have said anything in the first place. However, I was very pleased to see the wonderful responses from celiacs/Moms of celiacs on the website in response to his article. Maybe...
  8. May I just have a minute to explain why I ask? Please, bear with me as you and I share similar health histories and I would like to offer this thought to you. If a food really bothers you, you should avoid it, of course!! However, when I first went gluten-free after DX, I thought EVERYTHING was a problem. I drove myself insane trying to figure it out...
  9.
  10. ...down the toilet...nicely put  looks like yours is pretty intact. I agree! (as an aside:So much of what happened to me the last few years was not funny at all. It was devastating, but somehow, I managed to keep my sense of humor. I stopped watching the news for awhile in 2009 and 2010 and ONLY watched sitcoms. I was so ill, in pain and...
  11. Sadly, this all comes down to people who do not "get it" because they either: do not live it; do not understand celiac disease and the nuances of gluten cross- contamination; or do not care enough to understand. Educating them fully is your best bet. If they STILL do not "get it", then I have to wonder how much of it is just plain laziness...
  12. Positive blood test and positive results from a gluten free diet sure sounds like a DX to me. There are many reasons why the biopsy results were negative (not enough samples, biopsy from the wrong area, pathologist error, villous atrophy is not extensive YET, etc.) Stay the course, stay well! P,S. My blood panel was NEG and my former GI...
  13. Progresso Vegetable Classics Garden Vegetable is another! How about some frozen Dole's or Edy's fruit pops to soothe that throat? or Haagen daaz fruit sorbet? Hot tea with honey? Hope you feel better soon!
  14. no, huh?? I'm still queasy about the dog you had to eat....I would feel guilty around my lab.... like she would "know" or something...
  15. eyeballs...um,that's too oogey even for daredevil me! it reminds me of a bad Indiana Jones movie.
  16. That was an interesting article, even though the source of the info is from 1984. I knew there were other reasons for villous damage, but from soy and milk proteins? hmm.... I also noticed it said that these cases were rare and more often in conjunction with celiac and if the villi did not heal after a total gluten-free diet, they should look for another...
  17. Well, what you are saying here--with explanation--is very different from your original post. Do you see why it is confusing, though? You are very gracious to apologize and I appreciate that. Thank you, hon. I am not upset at all, I am just trying to clarify some information for the OP. I do not usually go off on a rant, as I am a pretty laid-back person...

    ARCHIVED Soy

oh honey, you sooooo do not want mine! The only way to isolate a food to see if you are intolerant is to eat something plain. A Reese's cup could mean soy lecithin or it could be the chocolate or the peanut butter or sugar, or, or, or ....and you'd just be guessing. If you really, really want to know if soy is a problem, eat some edamame...
  19. I see. But, why wouldn't it have been the rice milk--since you gave that up too? You understand my confusion??
  20. Not my favorite thing, but it is loaded with protein and fiber, so I eat it once and awhile. It's not very flavorful, in my opinion, so I cook it in broth and herbs with veggies like chopped spinach. I make the the Ancient Harvest quinoa flakes for breakfast and add some pure maple syrup and sliced banana. That's pretty tasty!
  21. You could use the forum search for hypoglycemia and see the other threads. I am sure there are plenty of discussions about hypoglycemia. It's a common symptoms that often resolves on a gluten-free diet. Cheers!
  22. Yes. I had it--and it caused all kinds of awful symptoms in me. But, not anymore!
  23. I was a culinary daredevil in the old days. I would make/eat anything. Two things come to mind.... Squid in ink made by a persistent Italian chef who insisted I would love it. Yes, it was very good. Head cheese at a German Oktoberfest. (I was young and did not realize what the name MEANT--DUH!) Yes, it was good. Now that I know what it IS...
  24. manganese explained and what a deficiency of it will cause: Open Original Shared Link I hope it will help me! Some of the best food sources are in brown rice, turmeric, green leafies like mustard greens and spinach, etc. But the article will tell you more.
  25. oh, A--that stinks. Sorry it does this to you. I have to ask, because someone else told me she has a problem with it...but how on earth did you determine carrageenan was an issue? How do you isolate it --when it is almost always IN something, I mean? Did you take a seaweed supplement to figure it out?
