  1. This is what I have done too, Patti. Make the broth by simmering the innards and use it for gravy stock. But as I have said....then, they go to the cat. I think it is more of a texture thing for us...blech. yet, I love pate....
  2. Part of the problem with getting people to understand why feeding someone even a "little bit of gluten" is "OKAY" is because there is technically no such thing as a gluten allergy Saying we have an allergy seriously underestimates the tragic consequences of this disease. So, if the guy ate the gluteny soy sauce and he did not immediately keel over...
  3. First of all, it is heartbreaking what you and your grandson have had to deal with. Bless you both for being the wonderful people you are! If you know anything about celiac-- and it sounds as if you do--emotional turmoil does exacerbate the symptoms (in fact, it is often the TRIGGER for the disease) and it does make us anxious and depressed, especially...
  4. exact same thing my Dad said about me.
  5. Fantastic! Good for you and for him. Hope it stays "calm"
  6. Oh, and I love your quote about the king and the pawn! so true!
  7. yes, thanks Shroomie!...I meant to clarify it is the epinephrine that causes my heart to race, etc. But ANY "CAINE" does me in.... (I had lidocaine injections once for the painful trigger points I have in my neck and back muscles and oh man, I was up all night, "speeding" ) Prolocaine?...yikes. He tried one injection for the dental work without the...
  8. I'm a mixed breed, lad...and my hands are always flying around when I am talking....the hardest time for me was when I had surgery on both shoulders in a few months' time and was immobilized....I felt "tongue tied"...
  9. No, corn and I are fine! I am sure it's the DRUGS. Happens every darn time. I can ask my dentist, but I doubt it. He already shakes his head at how sensitive I am about drugs. He worries about me after every procedure, calling me to make sure I am all right. The periodontist/TMJ specialist, however, states with skepticism that he "has never met...
  10. I feel like I am a less effective communicator without my hands (I tried sitting on them while teaching an Interpersonal Communication class to prove my point to the students) It was really difficult and frustrating. Without hand gestures, facial expressions and voice inflection, we are often misunderstood.
  11. Yes! That's what I was saying!! I have no fear now ---because I know my "enemy" NOT knowing WHY I was so ill and incapacitated and slowly dying for nearly 4 years was frightening. I KNEW there had to be an explanation for it all. I find that most people are intimidated by this DX because they do not really understand it. No reason to be scared. I...
  12. Okay, you posted the exact same questions again, hon and I think they were answered, but I can see you are really stressing about this. Please, try to relax. Just because you still have reactions does not necessarily mean you have other food intolerances either. Or a thyroid problem or, or , or... You may just be feeling crappy and going through withdrawal...
  13. YES!!!!!!!! I asked one mod about this, but she did not know why there wasn't a FAQ section. It would save a lot of time.
  14. I told it on a thread someone posted about our animals....I'll look around and send you a link. found it! cute kitty stories
  15. Good for you! Another good piece of advice for others is: be your own best advocate. I saved my own life. No exaggeration
  16. This is so true!! And this is exactly why it is good to consult valid, reliable sources about the disease process so you understand it fully and to focus on healing your own body. While advice from those who have "been there/done that" is incredibly helpful, you have to use common sense as well. I worried about "maybe it's this, maybe it's that" at first...
  17. WOW...That is one amazing cat!!! (cat scans purrfect) Here's to a long and healthy life for both of you! I guess I could say the same about my Bella. She came to us in a most unusual way when I was very sick (pre-DX)and even though we "saved her", she sort of saved me, too. It's a long story for another day, another post. okay, sorry guys......
  18. clever thread...thanks for the giggles
  19. I think that's very sweet....his and her gravy.
  20. I see you have a Bella, too
  21. I think "knowledge is power" (teacher that I am), so I am with you!! Aside from consulting hubby's anatomy books, I have tried to read every scholarly journal article I can find. I figure the more I understand about Celiac, the more power I feel I have over it. I was bookmarking all I could find while researching for 2 years, but I discovered some generous...
  22. It's funny you posted this because I just had this conversation with my doctor! I asked: "Why do I still feel like I am being glutened, when I KNOW I am not? I don't want to be paranoid about every damn morsel that goes into my mouth." He said: "Don't be. You're still healing. Things may just not sit well. Like dairy or soy or too much sugar. Give it time...
  23. In our house, the giblets and liver are simmered gently, diced and...served to Bella, the cat---- for her Thanksgiving feast.
  24. I hope this SOB was fired, pronto!!!
