  1. Agree about "cramming carbs and calories " if you want to gain weight. Do NOT agree about "throwing everything about healthy eating out the window" ....sorry, but not all carbs are "unhealthy" Many carbs are nutritious and healthy --they are called "good carbs" For example, green vegetables are the ‘ultimate’ good carb foods...most ‘leafy’ fibr...
  2. as I recall, you are still newly diagnosed? please, hon...give it time.
  3. wish I was going with you two instead of packing and moving 1200 miles.... hey....send me a postcard and have your pic taken with Dr. Fasano for me. I think I have a little crush on him.
  4. The barley-extracted beers cause symptoms in many people and are best avoided. "For example, Open Original Shared Link, is made in Portland. It’s light in body, golden-colored and clean tasting with a bit of hops coming through. With the slogan “It isn’t just what we took out, it’s what we left in,” this lager is brewed with malted barley so is techni...
  5. I do not think you are overly-anxious at all. I think you're covering all your bases and being a good Mom. Yes, I think it's possible to cross contaminate whenever you share living space. It's hard for adults to stay safe sometimes and with kids, it is even harder to watch every single thing they do. I hate to go with the obvious here, but maybe...
  6. Really, I would try the sitz bath.....possibly while eating a brownie.
  7. Your GI doctor should run those tests for you!. CBC, CMP, Vit D, B-12, Folate and the ANA and c-reactive protein--which checks for inflammation and assorted musculoskeletal issues.
  8. None of this is "in your head"--this just makes me angry! GP's are not celiac specialists! Celiac symptoms are varied and unpredictable at times. Your doctor is remiss for suggesting your symptoms are "psychosomatic" and not organic in nature. Hon, I had the worst joint pain and fatigue there is and there are REASONS for them. Some REAL causes for...
  9. YES! If I still had my beloved Dad (and given what I know now?) he would be on a G F diet this very minute!!. Since I can recall, even as a babe, he had several GI issues and drank Maalox like it was water (ulcers, h.pylori, acid reflux, mysterious intestinal bleeds and chronic anemia requiring dozens of blood transfusions for 8 years...) he had renal...
  10. ...... So I'm yakking with my mum tonight and she was making pasta for dinner (because in Boston, it is still "Prince Spaghetti day" on Wednesday and a tradition that has carried on in my home for 30+ years, regardless of a celiac DX). And, I actually went to the same HS as Anthony who appeared in those commercials. (If you know what I am talking about...
  11. Only THIS gang could openly discuss hemis, chocolate chips, BMs and brownies in the same discussion and feel completely at ease about it. I love us.
  12. I confess I have!....in chocolate chip cookies and in my homemade oatmeal/almond flour granola "everything" bars and yes, they were as yummy as you think..
  13. Just want to add: I agree. Just because they have a G F menu, it does not guarantee squat. However... I use the FMGF site for traveling info, but it does not mean I EAT in all those chains places.(i wouldn't eat in most of them before DX anyway) The site is very good for pointing people in the right direction, but I always look for people to say...
  14. Thanks, K. Will pass along to email peeps, too. Great site!
  15. Eating gluten free can be healthy as long as the focus is on whole foods, not packaged white-rice flour and sugar- filled packaged crap. My husband is G F (of his own accord after my DX) and he is as healthy as it gets.No medications, works out several times a week and can walk over 3 miles without breaking a sweat. He gets plenty of fiber and B vitamins...
  16. see, you are already learning the ways of being G F: "Don't share the super yummy stuff if you really don't have to". Hey,since you like BRM stuff...maybe try this next? I thought it was very good. I used almond extract the second time I made it and my almond cake-loving friend loved it (and he is not a G Effer!) and I confess, we put vanilla ice cream...
  17. snort double snort My two girlfriends...such tough cookies.
  18. Good for you...they look delish! now, hand one over and nobody gets hurt! I've got my coffee here and it's lonely.
  19. Another thought... Your friends can successfully prepare meals for you if they take the time to learn about CC and you help in the kitchen. It's fun. My friends did a good job. I brought them a flexible cutting board (that they use exclusively for me) and I brought wine and dessert. I make a killer flourless chocolate cake with ganache that 2 chef friends...
  20. I agree with Karen. then again, I have no problem telling people I have Celiac. what can I say? I take any opportunity to educate the masses. I may even get a "I'm celiac and I'm proud!" tee shirt...or tattoo.....
  21. LOCK, Your journey is not unlike so many of us on here. And you raise many good points. As for this (below) ...please ---avoid colon irrigation. IMO, the last thing your GI tract needs is THAT! They have absolutely no medical value that I have found in my research--especially for anyone whose colon is already inflamed. You are very wise to say no. ...
  22. If you consistently feel crappy, I suspect gluten is your problem and trace amounts are what keep the inflammatory process going in your body. This is why celiacs cannot have ANY gluten. Hon, the thing is, you have many symptoms and as Gemini has pointed out, diagnosis or not, if removing gluten makes you feel well and also aids in controlling the...
  23. The shipping is a bit steep, but they send you a free treat, and it arrives super fast. I can honestly say I have never had a bad thing from them. They take G F seriously and everything is super-fresh. My hubs loves the dates. I get the coconut flakes, too. One whole shelf in my pantry is nuts, seeds, coconut, cacao powder and dried fruits from them and...
  24. ooh....a handful of Enjoy life chips mixed with a handful of almonds with sea salt....yeah, baby that's my "I need something sweet and salty" snack sometimes. (could also explain some of my weight gain ) lol
  25. Hang out with me? I can make you chubby. LOL At Dx, I was emaciated (having lost 90 lbs. from celiac) The first year, I was still "skinny" then, bam!...10, 20, 30 lbs...packed on...40...wait, what the??? .hmm...no more malabsorption and now, weight gain. Carbs do it to me.(bread, muffins, cupcakes...you know, all the yummy stuff!) I am...
