ARCHIVED Hard Disk Crash Last Night
IrishHeart replied to Scott Adams's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
yes, but your instructions are so helpful, K. Now, go back to vacationing, young lady!!! I managed to get back on, as you can see. Have fun! -
People always mistakenly assume there is gluten in glue. Nope. Not in stamps, not on envelopes. not on toilet tissue rolls and not on paper cups. something made you sick, I do not doubt it, but gluten in adhesives is a myth. Read this, please--it explains it very well. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Haz-Matting A Gluten Filled Kitchen
IrishHeart replied to needsomeadvice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to be perfectly honest with you here. Some people get all in a tizzy over this particular subject and there's no need for that. Don't overthink this cleaning thing too much, hon. Gluten crumbs will dissolve in water and the likelihood of food being stuck on the insides of a dishwasher after all that hot water, soap and sanitizer do their thing...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Enterolab Gene Test Results
IrishHeart replied to seraphim's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are no genetic tests or blood tests of any kind for "gluten sensitivity". despite what some labs will tell you. The leading celiac specialists will tell you that. The main celiac genes associated with celiac are HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8--as of now. (those are the ones they are sure of) The research suggest a DQ9 may be associated. I hate... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Families So Stubborn?
IrishHeart replied to BelleVie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can only echo LOUDLY what my friend Gemini has said. After my DX, I wrote a letter to my large extended family, even xeroxing info for those cousins without email and not one of them has been tested.I told them I have genes from both parents. They know this thing tried to kill me. They are full of AI diseases ( thyroid, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's... -
one more thought..if you are ovulating and mid cycle, maybe that could explain the one sided pain (left one time, right the other) P.S. I came back to post this late in the day and some others may have already suggested this. I did not read all the posts on the thread (I admit it) as I was reading about a gazilion posts this afternoon. sorry if it...

Shadow I think so, yes, it could be related to chronic C. Have you tried the ground flaxseed meal in 16 oz. of water every morning ? I know you hydrate enough, right? How about the probiotics? any help at all? I have had two surgeries (gall bladder--but the surgical scar is 9" and runs from my breast bone and takes a right at my belly button (that...

IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think you're crazy, sweets,(in the oh-so-cool way) but not for THIS! Crockpots--thanks to you--are my new "go-to" thinger when I do not want to heat up the house or when I am too busy to stand there and watch food. Chili over rice with a corn muffin...YUM. That's not what I made, though. Not tonight. I got corn --the one we call "butter and... -
ARCHIVED Any Tips On Controlling Anxiety And Depression?
IrishHeart replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From what I have read (and my limited experience) , benzos can be extremely addictive and are difficult to stop cold turkey--please, do not do that!--but if they are used sparingly, as in before a plane ride or a dental procedure or a test in the hospital for example, as Arlene describes....they can help reduce what is called situational anxiety. I wish I... -
ARCHIVED Any Tips On Controlling Anxiety And Depression?
IrishHeart replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
H D I do not know how long you have been strictly gluten free, but time is your ally. I also suffered from anxiety and depressive thinking when I was very ill for 3 years before diagnosis. This is NOT my personality at all and it was very bizarre to have such dismal thinking, feeling out of control, sick, racy in the heart, mind and body and suffering... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
IrishHeart replied to NateJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
But I am not sure what this quote has to do with this situation at all. This is standard protocol for follow-up care with celiac. And, you want to see a different result: a low antibodies level. He is still having symptoms and the first thing a doctor should do is make sure the antibodies are coming down. Otherwise, he does not have the celiac... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Suffered Or Suffer From Asthma/shortness Of Breathe?
IrishHeart replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure if you ever watched "Seinfeld", but all I can think of is when Susan (George's fiance) died after licking all those wedding invitation envelopes. When I first went gluten-free, I read all kinds of things about envelopes, blue cheese, vitamin E, etc and it made my head spin. I would actually wet the envelope flap with water to seal it. Then... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Suffered Or Suffer From Asthma/shortness Of Breathe?
IrishHeart replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You do not have to worry about stamps or envelopes anymore. This is a myth. Open Original Shared Link Plain spices are G F but some "seasoning/mixes" have to be scrutinized. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Popsicles freeze up my throat so it hurts less. I ate about 12 yesterday. I haven;t had one in years. LOL And in fairness to my hubs, he went and got more popsicles in the morning and he put up with me being sick for many years, so of course he should go and have fun. He was appropriately sad for me. His main concern is always what trouble Lucy will get... -
ARCHIVED Seriously, That Doesn't Make Sense
IrishHeart replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have to second this thought, too, Renegade. Please believe me when I tell you, they can only do so much for you. My chiropractor gets very upset when he hears that his colleagues are "practicing medicine". And honestly, I do not know how a chiro could have possibly "stretched your colon". I am sorry someone told you to go G F before testing... -

oooh, ooh....i want gnocchi too....waaa waaaa those should slide right down. Hubs has gone to Saratoga to see the horses without me (yes, he felt bad leaving me, but not enough to stay home) We'll be having pizza when he gets home, I think. Maybe. I am eating root beer popsicles right now -

ARCHIVED Where To Find Or Order Bulk gluten-free Flour In Usa
IrishHeart replied to whitepine's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Meant to add... I also use Amazon Prime, like Ski does. No hassle, 2-day shipping, Fred, the UPS guy and I are on a first-name basis, plus it's free shipping and worth the $79 for yearly subscription. Buying multi-packs saves me a lot of money. I get certified oats, flaxseed meal, flours, baking supplies, Country Life G F vitamins etc. from them. Just... -
ARCHIVED Where To Find Or Order Bulk gluten-free Flour In Usa
IrishHeart replied to whitepine's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
oh, that's because A mazon...you can't say it with the name plus dot.com because they spammed the forum and they are banned. Many professional G F chefs use almond flour or coconut flour. Check out Elana Amsterdam Glutenfreegoddess.com glutenfreemama for example. This blogger gives an excellent intro to cooking with almond flour Open... -
ARCHIVED Where To Find Or Order Bulk gluten-free Flour In Usa
IrishHeart replied to whitepine's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I order in bulk from a mazon . com, honeyville (almond flour) and nuts.com I would not trust any bulk bin products at all. (unless you do it the way Adalaide has suggested) -
ARCHIVED Seriously, That Doesn't Make Sense
IrishHeart replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will "4th" this suggestion Sometimes going gluten free is not the answer--especially if SOMETHING else is going on. Time to go back to the doc who suggested giving up gluten and tell him/her what you have told us. You should not be feeling worse--not for this long, IMHO. -
ARCHIVED Tap Water And Symptoms
IrishHeart replied to whitepine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Running water through a charcoal filter is not the same as taking activated charcoal tablets, if that is your worry. The activated carbon stays in the filter, it does not go into the water. -
yes. ANY amount of gluten sparks the autoimmune response, hon--whether you feel it or not. No Catholic church I know just provides them for you. (not sure if you are Catholic or not) You'll have to order some from the Benedictine nuns. Other denominations will allow rice cracker hosts (EnerG makes them) Open Original Shared Link I get my...
