ARCHIVED Dairy Allergy And Now Calcium Supplements
IrishHeart replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
And you need to be very careful about selecting certain words from a long conversation and painting me in a bad light. I was out of town for a few days and just read this post and feel it necessary to respond to your remarks. I think it is unfair of you to say that this is all that I said to you because it makes it sound like I just randomly private messaged... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Found This
IrishHeart replied to w8in4dave's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Salax, I do agree about the development of other intolerances --food, environmental, chemical (I have a few myself)- but I do not buy the "cross-reactivity with gluten theory" yet because no evidence from celiac experts exists as far as I can find. If those foods specifically listed on that blog site were as dangerous to us as gluten, most of... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Allergy And Now Calcium Supplements
IrishHeart replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Except, allergies are not the same as food intolerances and we have told you this many, many times. The bowel cramping reaction you describe to the "tiny sliver of butter'--means a possible intolerance. Or it means nothing at all. Not every thing that "seems weird" means allergy or intolerance, hon. this is from the MAYO CLINIC: If you had an... -

I use NOW brand vitamins all the time and I have no problem with them. We told you our best advice. They give full disclosure and that's as good as it gets. Why would they lie? you seem to think the answer is not good enough or that "we all know it can mean something like CC"...no, we don't "all know that" I read the label, I read the company policy, I... -

ARCHIVED I'm Getting Fat
IrishHeart replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it's any consolation, I have gained 40 lbs. since diagnosis. ok, maybe I was very thin (after dropping 90 lbs. and could stand to gain a few) but I did not need 40 back on! The first 15 months, I put on about 10 slowly, then suddenly, I zoomed past 15, 20. 25. I am not kidding when I say I never saw any of that coming. Within one month, I had put... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Get Gluten From The Dishwasher?
IrishHeart replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I honestly cannot see how if the dishwasher is in good working condition. I have eaten at people's houses who are not celiacs and in restaurants where certainly, the dishes are washed with plates that once held gluteny foods and I have never felt ill from it. Someone else who lives with gluten eaters in their homes may pipe in here and offer their... -

Someone's blog stating things as a fact to promote lab tests is not something I find very compelling. We have discussed this supposed cross-reactivity issue many times on here, but I still find it highly doubtful (as does a leading celiac center) Not one celiac specialist has supported this theory or these labs tests or presented any research to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Two Months...coping With...recent Gluten Binge

Green's Bard's New Planet these are some good gluten-free beers. Redbridge is not that good at all, IMHO, unless you like stuff like Budweiser. (blech) Don't let the beer issue get in the way of keeping you off the very thing that makes you feel so bad. If you can stand a gluten challenge, having a firm diagnosis has its benefits, but if... -
I have to avoid soy, MSG, all the "amines" and preservatives. It should be a problem, but it's not really. I eat out at least once or twice a month (last week I had to travel and I ate out 5 times) and have no problems. I talk to the waiter or the manager and/or the chef. I have very covertly brought in a little container of soy-free salad dressing...

ARCHIVED Garnier Fructis
IrishHeart replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unless you are swallowing huge amounts on shampoo on a daily basis, you need not be concerned about this. "There is no scientific evidence that the use of gluten-containing products that are not ingested is harmful to persons with celiac disease. This includes individuals with dermatitis herpetiformis. According to Dr. Alessio Fasano, Medical Director of... -

Now Foods states the product is dairy free and gluten free from the website: Other Ingredients None. Contains no sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg, shellfish or preservatives. Vegetarian/vegan product. So, what exactly is your question? -

Holycraponacracker!!. NO ONE has EVER KILLED a mint PLANT!!.... In the history of mint plants...I mean it. This is a first. THOSE THINGS SURVIVED the ICE age and they will survive ARMAGEDDON. oh, the humanity.... I am speechless (and THAT, in itself , is a near-impossibility). -
ARCHIVED When Did The D And C Get Better For You?
IrishHeart replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
me too--yummy stuff I still use it. I still use coconut milk, too. But I do luvs me cheese! It was great to get that back. -
Well, I saw your thread title, drove over here to help, but I see Barty, Karen and Addy have already covered it all. These are 3 very wise women. Listen to them. I'll add this: No need to be paranoid, hon. Absolutely nothing to be gained from being fearful and worried. Once you get the hang of this, you'll be fine! Worrying just gives you icky wrinkles...

ARCHIVED When Did The D And C Get Better For You?
IrishHeart replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd dump the dairy for a few months and see if it helps. It took me a while to get my gut straightened out and stop the alternating D and C I had for my entire life. What worked for me was probiotics, no dairy, time. You'll get there, too. Hang in there. -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, lovey.....that sounds so wonderful. I would love every bite of that dinner---right now. alas, we are not having that tonight. Looks like a mixed grille ----lamb for me and sausages for the hubs (he does not like lamb very much) Baby potatoes or risotto, depending on how much work I can accomplish today. Packing some things/mowing, etc. Lots... -
ARCHIVED Getting Too Comfortable
IrishHeart replied to KMMO320's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We get that part, hon---but then we all have to try to explain to readers of the thread why it was not really valid that's what we do. People look to this forum for solid information about celiac and negotiating the gluten free diet. A random blog entry? Not really valid. -
ARCHIVED Well I'm Officially A Mess
IrishHeart replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can't live on ginger tea. Bromelain and ginger--some people say it soothes their guts. Not mine. Makes mine irritated. Your gut is cramping possibly because it is looking for nourishment. Do as Karen suggests (above) and keep the food choices simple. Boiled chicken, plain rice, carrots. Small portions. Stop taking supplements. if you gut... -

ARCHIVED Colander Idea...
IrishHeart replied to RaeDawnMarie721's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Not going to work, but nice try! There are plastic colanders at the dollar store. I would hide it in my closet if the people I live with can't seem to keep their gluteny mitts off it. I cannot understand family members who would purposefully sabotage someone who needs to be safe from the very thing that makes them seriously ill. Just plain stupid...
