The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm doing a chicken on the rotisserie. It's hot here and I am not very hungry. I think maybe some broccoli slaw and perhaps....sauteed kale. I am going out to walk around the pool backwards. Don't laugh. The PT and the trainer at the gym recommend it for balance and toning the abs and core and make my buns steely. I look silly, I am sure, but... -

thanks for making me shoot seltzer water out of my nose. gazundheit! I learned a long time ago from being around an Armenian Gramma and a French Grammy, her Greek friends, the Italians and Germans in our ethnically mixed neighborhood....... if anyone gives you awesome ethnic food, just EAT IT!! It's gonna be awesome! That's it. That's... -

.....that's because they are encores ! (or I guess, "recycled" is okay) Leftovers just sounds so "sad" to me. I admit to liking Pellegrino water and occasionally, I have seen cases of it on sale at BJs. (not sure if you have access to one of those?). or 12-packs on a ma zon for a reasonable price. I love beet greens (well, ALL greens, really) and... -
ARCHIVED Heat And Humiditiy And Better Tolerance
IrishHeart replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Years ago when I was young (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) I had friends who lived in St. Thomas and St. John and when I was gettng ready to visit, I wondered how well I would do with the climate. I honestly felt wonderful there! ..the beaches were gorgeous, the people friendly and after one week, I told my (ex) husband "I want to live here! let's do... -
ARCHIVED Heat And Humiditiy And Better Tolerance
IrishHeart replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always loved the heat, enjoyed the sun and never had a problem with humidity. Like my Dad. He could work outside all day long. No problem. I had a tan from working in the garden and being in the water (beach or pool or lake...)... until I became very ill from undiagnosed celiac and so, for 3 summers, mysteriously, I could not tolerate the sun... -

Hon, the vast majority of bottled spaghetti sauce is gluten free as far as I know. It's tomatoes, basil, oregano. Classico, Newman's Own, etc. Just look at the ingredient list and if you do not see wheat listed, you're good. Still flagging a bit here so I am KISS. Turkey burgers, roasted asparagus, mixed fruit salad. Note to self: Hullo... -
ARCHIVED Have You Been Told It Is All In Your Head?
IrishHeart replied to lovechild's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Seratonin is indeed produced in the gut. The reason why people with impaired guts get depressed is because it is not being produced..... AND other neurotransmitters are not functioning as they should, either. It is a cascade effect. It is not lost, per se....it just is not being produced--as it should be--in a normally healthy, functioning GI tract. ... -
ARCHIVED May God Bless Our Firefighters!
IrishHeart replied to GottaSki's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Any firefighter is at risk on any given day.. I remember the Hotel Vendome tragedy in Boston because some of my classmates lost dads or brothers (some of you are too young) and of course, 9/11. Not sure, but I think the number of firefighters (and paramedics) killed that day?... well over 300. It does not matter where they battle a fire. It matters... -
ARCHIVED Personal Labs Testing? Any Experience?
IrishHeart replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Looks like they use LabCorp, the same company that runs the blood work done by my doctor. (so, that part is probably legit) Looks like they are not allowed in certain states (check the website) Not sure what tests you are going to have run and why you may not want to go through a doc to order them (and that is none of my business ) but your insurance... -
Actually, I recall reading this right after DX: "a celiac's immune system is very strong". I think people erroneously believe we are sickly because we have celiac, but the opposite is true. Once our guts are healed, we resist infection better than most. Our immune system runs on "overtime" defending us.

I never had thick hair. And I had really terrible hair loss from malabsorption before DX. My thyroid has been checked and re-checked and because I have no other hypothyroid related issues, I know that is not the problem. I took a boatload of B vitamins, especially biotin. No change. Now, 2.5 years after DX---- my hair started to come back and look...

ARCHIVED How Do You Explain Brain-Fog To People
IrishHeart replied to djs89's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A celiac panel is painless. An endoscopy with biopsy is painless too. A colonoscopy is not part of the celiac diagnosis protocol. Please, get tested so you can determine if gluten and vitamin deficiencies are causing your brain fog The "gluten head" I experienced for 3 years was horrible and I understand totally how you feel. -
After a few more months, when you feel awesome...sit down with your Mom and explain the genetic aspect of celiac and why she should be tested. (doctors recommend this) YOUR improvement will be the best example. Write down all your symptoms before DX and check off the ones that resolve. Show her why being gluten-free yields optimal health and......

Actually, talking about it is illuminating for you. It gives you insight into your health history and how doctors symptom-treat rather than find the cause. (this is my life story) You're going to feel better and better as time goes on!!. You may not need that Wellbutrin in time, so be aware of it. If you are still taking the SSRI and your gut...

Not really. I have taken them in the morning or at bedtime or right in the middle of the day, if I did not do it in the morning. Soon, you will not need that citrucel, I am hoping. (the tablets are just a bunch of chemicals) I used to take it all the time before DX when my former doc told me I only had "IBS" and he had me on that, GERD medicines, Zantac...

Took out some sirloin for dinner. Figure out the rest later...Not much of an appetite. I have a fever, really stiff and sore joints and awful nausea. Like I have been hit by a truck. Apparently, (according to the doc & the CDC pamphlet he gave me) 1 in 100 adults get this reaction after a tetanus/pertussis shot. dang, why do I have to be the 1? stoopid... -

ARCHIVED Have You Been Told It Is All In Your Head?
IrishHeart replied to lovechild's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lovechild Just to add: I think Mitzi may have meant your own cutting board at home may be a culprit if you cut up watermelon on it after using it for bread.. I can honestly say that the cut watermelon in the produce dept. has never glutened me. The produce section is not also cutting up bread for anyone, I am sure. The machines are cleaned and it is... -
