IrishHeart replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's because you're still young. After you get old and and have creaky bones and sore joints and (pretend you are me now, ) have spent the last 16 years helping to shovel a 160- foot driveway, you would see it from my perspective Growing up in New England (and living in upstate NY the last 25 years),I saw enough snow to last me for the rest of my days... -

I'm sorry, hunny. That's too cold for me. I see most of the country is enjoying unusually warm weather. We have tropical storm KAREN in the Gulf. hopefully, she will not get in the way of my house being built. The roof was almost completed Thursday, but you know how those KARENS are..... (shh--let's see if she sees this. She has super sonic radar... -

I am so happy you are able to use it all up. It would have been a tragedy, nay--a sacrilege, I say-! - had that dark chocolatey goodness melted in the storage container. It's 82, but it's breezy and lovely. You would probably like it! -

I honestly do not know why you are settling for Ensure and a glutino bar, hon. Blechsters! I'd feel sorry for myself, too if that was all I had to eat. You are almost being a "food martyr"--and I do not know why. Time to branch out and bake. Seriously, you have to look at your new life as an opportunity to create new goodies. Here's what I would... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Without Blood Tests?
IrishHeart replied to MChase's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
EGD stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Read about it, so you know what it entails. It is a small flexible camera that goes examines the lining of your esophagus, down through your stomach and into the first portion of your small intestine. It is not painful and you will be sedated, so you will not feel a thing. The endoscopy with biopsy is still... -

IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Super Sensitive People
This seems to be the answer to your sudden onset of symptoms, then. Not papaya, not touching wrappers, not gluten. So often, people assume right away...it's hidden gluten! when it may not be the case at all. Glad we could help you sort it out. Glad you feel better! -
ARCHIVED About Hubby
IrishHeart replied to w8in4dave's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If someone is not gluten intolerant, he can eat gluten, not eat gluten, eat gluten--- off and on ---and never notice a thing. They do not have a gluten intolerance. That said, if your husband has been COMPLETELY gluten free, then eats gluten and gets sick from it, it's because he has had a gluten problem all along, not because he "suddenly became gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 4 Months And Dealing With Fatigue
IrishHeart replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I liked hearing encouraging words too when I was still in the beginning stages. Many people on here told me many times "just stay the course--it gets better" "be patient" and I would think "BUT when???!!" lol They were right. Healing happens. Ok, just understand that 800 mcgs of folic acid will not rectify a serious folate deficiency, though... -

Hmm, well...the article is really a website to sell transdermal magnesium and the only sentence I saw that mentions that calcium reduces magnesium absorption was this: "In one study, addition of 300 to 1000 mg of calcium to the diet decreased magnesium absorption significantly in participants consuming an average of 370 of dietary magnesium daily.Open... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 4 Months And Dealing With Fatigue
IrishHeart replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a suggestion: Have the doctor check your FOLATE level (and your Vitamin D too) when he does your blood work. They never check this vitamin level (B9) and it can cause serious fatigue and it is a quite common form of anemia in celiac. (along with B-12 and iron deficiency) It kept me flagging the first few months until I read about all the things... -

hmm...the go-to girl for this sort of thing (love2travel) is in Croatia at the moment, but I can shoot her an email and ask her. I read about cinder toffee here: http://www.theguardian.com/science/blog/2010/sep/24/sugar-honeycomb-cinder-toffee and I chuckled at the opening lines "Sure, it will rot your teeth and make you fat, but there's nothing... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Bread?
IrishHeart replied to gemlechner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have tried: Three Bakers, Udi's, Rudy's. they are all decent breads, IMHO but I like homemade, too. I also like Brown rice tortilla wraps. I find all these breads in the frozen section. Keep them in the fridge and lightly toast. Zap the wraps in a moist paper towel in the micro for 30 seconds. and Canyon Bakehouse is delicious, I agree. (I tried... -
ARCHIVED 2-3 Days For A Glutening Reaction?!
IrishHeart replied to CajunChic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
FlowerQueen The main symptom I failed to mention (which just proves how far I have come, because it is the worst and I have forgotten about it !) is joint/muscle pain and burning...ugh! just horrid. If THAT increases (because I live with low level pain all the time) well, then, I know I have been hit. The Paleo diet --or Whole 30 diet, etc--can... -

IrishHeart replied to skubik's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Really? that's interesting because my doctor told me to take it in combination ---with Vit D (to help the body absorb calcium) and phosphorus in order to get the maximum benefit. I take twice as much calcium to mag ratio. And eat a lot of calcium-rich foods. Bone density scan after 2 years shows improvement. -

ARCHIVED First Post. Looking For Some Insight Into Symptoms.
IrishHeart replied to skubik's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This makes me crazy. Why do doctors continue to skip the celiac panel when they suspect a gluten problem and why did the dietician recommend you go gluten-free and Low FODMAP BEFORE they ruled out celiac? argh! Now you are stuck in diagnostic limbo. To answer your question, yes, many of us had those symptoms, but they are also symptoms of OTHER disorders...
