The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, meant to add: regarding cooking noodles for soup? I found that it makes the soup too starchy for my taste to cook them with the veggies, meat, etc.. And the corn pasta can turn it yellow, so I cook the noodles separately, to a good al dente, (tinkyada is about 11 mins. no matter what the package says/ 13 if you are making them for pasta dishes) --then... -

ARCHIVED 2-3 Days For A Glutening Reaction?!
IrishHeart replied to CajunChic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They range from abdominal cramping to bouts of C and D to headaches. I have flagging fatigue, yet I cannot sleep. I incur some hair loss, little red oozey sores on my face and scalp may erupt, and I feel very foggy brained, listless and ill (like I have the flu) yet, I am also "antsy". I am uncharacterstically grouchy and somewhat jittery and I cannot... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Figure Out What's Wrong With Me
IrishHeart replied to herman81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First of all, any number of health problems (and medications and viruses and food intolerances) will cause diarrhea and GERD, so I would not leap to celiac right away, Herman. Celiac is NOT a wheat allergy. Celiac is an autoimmune disease of the small intestine that can cause a myriad of symptoms and it is diagnosed by blood tests and/or endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Rice Krispies Gluten Free
IrishHeart replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The G F Rice Krispies are NOT CROSS CONTAMINATED. I eat them sometimes and I would feel it, believe me. THEIR WEBSITE: "We produce it in a separate facility and test each batch to make sure that it’s gluten-free". -

ARCHIVED Stratford Festival In Ontario, Canada
IrishHeart replied to bardbabe's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I wish I could go!!! Bard-lover that I am. (just moved to Florida from NY, so it's not possible) but it sounds like it would be great fun with plenty of G F fare. Have a wonderful time! It is so good of you to share this information. -
ARCHIVED Gene Varients...autoimmune Disease
IrishHeart replied to GF Lover's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Scientists rock! (and not just because I live with one...) I was reading about targeted cell therapy in multiple myeloma a few weeks ago (my cousin is beating that sucker into remission right now, thank God) and certain forms of lung, breast, thyroid and kidney cancers. Sounds promising!!!. -

ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
IrishHeart replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
um, guys....no, this woman told me it happened while she was sitting on the bus. She was not eating anything. So...the gluten, what? absorbed somehow off a stain on the seat..?..through her clothes, then through her butt tissues, and somehow magically landed in her intestines? I was not buying it. -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
IrishHeart replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, we always point people to valid sources that provide the information about celiac myths: Tricia Thompson, Shelly Case, U of C , etc. as Karen mentioned...and you know what happens? People argue loudly with us anyway. I cannot tell you how many times someone has vehemently told me she was glutened by any of the following: envelopes, stamps, dirty seats... -
Having just done the prep a few weeks ago for a combo colonoscopy & endoscopy with biopsy of my entire GI tract, a test for h.Pylori and polyp removal (amazing what we reveal on her...ahem....) , I can say "I hear you", but I did it because it was necessary and without it, I'd have no knowledge of my status/prognosis. I know it's not exactly the...

ARCHIVED Recurrent Miscarriage And Celiac?
IrishHeart replied to Rayrab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your celiac test results could well be invalid because you were off gluten. Hard to say. If I were my 30-something year old self again (after having had multiple miscarriages and never carrying to term), I'd go to a reproductive endocrinologist. I know a whole lot more now than I did back then and one is: Fertility doctors may not get to the root of... -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
IrishHeart replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Peter, I agree. I was recently given a clean bill of health by my GI who once worried if I would have refractory sprue. (ok, there is a bit of intestinal wall scarring from the celiac disease but he says that's not unexpected) but, for someone who was as sick as I was, my nearly 3- year recovery was accomplished while I (1) ate out and traveled (2) used... -

ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
IrishHeart replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nope. not at all. Seriously? I would never read any relevant current research, change my entire household, diet and nutritional plan, read books by reputable celiac specialists, work on two websites dispensing free advice like skittles, counsel people in my community who need help learning the G F diet, compile a thread for the newly diagnosed, annoy the... -
ARCHIVED Super-Sensitive Oops What In The World?
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Super Sensitive People
I was not looking for a "glaring mistake". I was looking for clarity. I was trying to understand how on earth you could be glutened so badly by touching a wrapper. It's impossible. And even though you have added more details, I still do not see how it is possible. I am not saying something didn't happen to you; I am saying I have no idea how touching... -
ARCHIVED Craving Protein Like A Maniac :(
IrishHeart replied to wormholehead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used the Rainbow Light protein powder for a while.(allergen-free and vegan for those who wish that) I have added all sorts of veggies (i like to chop up kale and freeze it and add a handful) , fruits (banana, pineapple, berries of all kinds are my faves) a cup of coconut milk or almond milk and sometimes, plain greek yogurt. I add TBLS. of nut... -

ARCHIVED Super-Sensitive Oops What In The World?
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Super Sensitive People
I do not really understand your post .. I went with my family to a natural food coop and they had supper. I shopped around. I accidentally touched a package with gluten on the label. I picked up, as a special treat, some Go Papaya, a dried product. It only contains dried only papaya according to the label. I went out to the car and ate my dinner... -
ARCHIVED Craving Protein Like A Maniac :(
IrishHeart replied to wormholehead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
fish, shellfish, peanut butter, almond butter, cheese of all kinds, beans, white bean chili,.hummus, yogurt and protein shakes helped me. Eggs (I cannot have those--but they are a good idea, too) I loves me some protein! -
