ARCHIVED In Search Of Grain Free Chips For Corn Chips
bartfull replied to babka23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And if you like ham you can make the "bowls" out of boiled ham or virginia ham slices. Get a large muffin tin and flute the ham into each cup. Then follow cyclinglady's recipe. This works great for breakfast too - flute the ham and then break an egg into each cup. Top with cheese, sauteed mushrooms, crumbled bacon, crumbled sausage, whatever you like. Bake... -

ARCHIVED Sunmaid Golden Raisins
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No refrigeation is necessary while they are soaking. They say just leave them on the counter covered with a paper towel so dust and stuff doesn't get into them. Most of the gin will evaporate and that's fine. After the ten days you can transfer them into a closed jar and either keep them in the fridge or in the cabinet. I think I'm going to use the fridge... -
ARCHIVED Sunmaid Golden Raisins
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well I took the chance and have some soaking in Beefeater's right now. They have to soak for ten days and then you're supposed to eat nine raisins a day. Supposedly some time between two to eight weeks you're supposed to start seeing results. I will report back and let you all know. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Sunmaid Golden Raisins
bartfull posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I keep hearing about gin soaked raisins. The People's Pharmacy on NPR was talking about them again this morning and they claim that for some reason they work for arthritis pain. The recipe calls for golden raisins and they think it might be something about the sulfites reacting with the juniper in the gin. So anyway although the regular raisins are gluten... -
You can't be allergic to gluten, but you can be allergic to wheat. And it sounds like you are. Or maybe you're allergic to one of the other ingredients in those meatballs. And an allergy can be life threatening. In my opinion you shpoould be carrying an epipen. You need to be eating gluten for the celiac tests to be valid but it seems to me that wouldn...

ARCHIVED Lentils
bartfull replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sometimes they are harvested on the same machinery as wheat, or they are stored in the same bins as wheat. I've heard others say the same thing you did. I guess I'd skip the lentils unless I could find some that were certified gluten-free. As for pasta, I really like the Ronzoni gluten-free pasta. It is made with brown rice, white rice, corn and quinoa... -
ARCHIVED Breyer's Ice Cream
bartfull replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would have eaten it too before I got CC'd from the Blue Bunny All Natural ice cream I've been eating for years. I know they also make cookies and cream but I never had a problem before. I'm absolutely sure it was the ice cream now because I ate some from one of the two containers I had, then it went on sale the next day so I bought some more. Got glutening... -
ARCHIVED Gemini's Favorite Things
bartfull replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good question! As bad as you folks in the South have it, try moving to South Dakota! No Whole Foods. No Costco, And none of most of those other great stores I see mentioned here. The best we've got is Safeway and most of THOSE don't have a gluten-free section either. Here in my town there is a ten foot long "island" in one grocery store with gluten-free stuff... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Gave Me Regular Bread And I Didn't Realize It
bartfull replied to LauraH's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Major bummer! I always keep a couple of Lara Bars in my purse and a small bag of Planter's nuts. That way if I get caught out late and need to eat at least I have something to hold me over 'til I get home. Hope you get over this quickly. -

ARCHIVED Damage To Villi But No Ile?
bartfull replied to KBart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There was once a beloved scientists on this board who passed away. We miss her tremendously because she was knowledgable and compassionate and just a wonderful person. Here is what she had to say about additional intolerances: Personally, I think our development of food intolerances has more to do with Fasano's zonulin work than cross-reactivity. We have... -
ARCHIVED Damage To Villi But No Ile?
bartfull replied to KBart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The testing for celiac and the testing for dairy intolerance are valid tests. But there is no reliable way to test for intolerances to other foods. The only way to find out if you're intolerant to things like soy or corn is to do an elimination diet. It takes forever and after a while you look at eating as nothing more than a necessary bodily function rather... -
ARCHIVED Damage To Villi But No Ile?
bartfull replied to KBart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Christina, because you asked so nicely for folks to correct you if you got anything wrong, I'm going to point out a couple of things. First, that blood test for allergens isn't really all that reliable, and it is for allergies, not intolerances. If she is having breathing problems or hives after eating something she is having an allergic reaction, but the... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning : Diet Failure Or Normal?
bartfull replied to Japonpoko's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The first thing I would look at (should you decide to stay gluten-free and not get tested) would be contamination in the home. Please read the Newbie 101 thread in the coping section to learn more. -

ARCHIVED Elimination Diet Question
bartfull replied to ThisIsMyUserName's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like soy is a problem for you. It is for many of us. The best way to tell is to try soy in as pure a form as you can find. If you get sick you'll know that's it. (I'm thinking either a good gluten-free soy sauce or miso.) Try to keep the new additions simple one ingredient things so you'll know. Onions? I don't know. They could just be bothering... -

GOOD FOR YOU!!! You may miss him for a little while but you don't need a selfish jerk in your life.
