  1. Which forum is that, Gilligan? If you'd rather not post it here could you PM me?
  2. I could be wrong but I believe if it is certified gluten-free it has been tested. Did you get sick?
  3. For scientific evidence show them this: Open Original Shared Link And how is it inconveniencing them if you eat before you go? Have a beverage and socialize because their company is what matters, not what everybody is or isn't eating. And for spontaneous get togethers, keep food like Lara bars, bags of nuts, or the like in your purse at all times. Even hard...
  4. Couscous is NOT a grain. It is PASTA! It is not gluten-free!
  5. Not exactly a bug, but it's really slow, especially to go "back" after reading a thread or post. I have to click the back button four to six times and even then it takes up to 30 seconds to finally get back to the main page. The only other thing I noticed (I access the forum from "new content") is that sometimes when I click the little black (used to be green...
  6. I've been thinking. Iodine definitely does make DH worse. There are several folks here with DH who have to stay on a low iodine diet or their DH will flare. They avoid egg yolks and potato skins and iodized salt (and probably some other things I can't think of right now - dairy is one I think) and they are fine. So if there was too much iodine in the other...
  7. I'm just guessing here but I would think the salt used in most processed foods is NOT iodized. Most companies that sell the salt we buy in the grocery store sell both iodized and non-iodized. It doesn't make sense to me that large manufacturers would iodize the salt they use before they use it. And I would imagine they get the salt cheaper if it is not iodized...
  8. If coffee were "cross reactive", I would be in the hospital by now. I drink six to eight cups of Dunkin' Donuts coffee every day. I have never had a gluten symptom from it yet.
  9. Interesting articles but they don't back up your claims. All they show is that antibiotics mess with gut flora and that children born by C-section don't have the same gut flora that those born by vaginal birth get. We already knew that. But they show nothing about the immune system being "set" by the age of eight. They show nothing about lactose intolerance...
  10. Foam, I'm not trying to give you a hard time but the rule on this board is that if you make a claim, you must back it with documentation from a reputable source. So rather than telling ME to look it up, please, post some studies showing that kid's immune systems are "set" by the time they are eight, that lactose intolerance is always celiac, and that "no...
  11. Yeah, I am an Ovation fanatic. Used to work there as a matter of fact. That was almost as much fun as what I'm doing now - running my own guitar store.
  12. Foam, could you show us any scientific studies showing that kid's immune systems are "set" by the time they are eight? Also, could you show any research that says if a person is lactose intolerant they have already had celiac for years?
  13. Wow. Most of us go through hell and high water to get a diagnosis and here you have a doctor ready to diagnose you without testing! It is possible that you DO have celiac. My doctor gave me an official diagnosis based on the fact that my Mom had (diagnosed) celiac and the fact that my symptoms resolved on the gluten-free diet. But that was because I had no...
  14. There seems to be research showing people with gluten sensitivity are even more likely to have neurological problems than those with celiac. Open Original Shared Link(Thanks to KnittyKitty for posting this.) So even if you went on a true gluten challenge (half a cracker a day isn't enough) and tested negative, a gluten-free diet might be the ticket.
  15. Not all cases of lupus involve the internal organs. Mine is just in my joints right now. If it DOES go to my liver or kidneys they have drugs to treat it. My grandmother had lupus and she lived to be 87. But you know what hon? I don't think you have lupus. I think it is all related to gluten and you WILL start feeling better soon. Be sure to let us know...
  16. I'm sorry if I came across as patronizing. After being a member here for many years I have "spoken" with lots of newbies and I know how difficult it is. And I also know that eating out is the hardest part - even for me. That's why I don't do it. But I remember being young and in college and I know that at least back then, people went out with their friends...
  17. There are several folks here who have both. I'm sure they'll chime in soon. Have you (before you went gluten-free) had allergic type reactions to wheat? You know, hives, breathing problems, that sort of thing? You should have an epi pen. Exposure to wheat on the celiac side can make you sick and damage your gut, but on the allergy side it can kill you...
  18. Advice? Be more careful so you DON'T get glutened. I realize it's hard to socialize and not be around gluten all the time, and of course being in college, people tend to socialize more than old farts like myself. But seriously, you need to be scrupulous. Read the Newbie 101 thread here in the coping section. And make sure you either eat before you go...
  19. Have you had your thyroid checked? I think if that is wonky it can cause depression and anxiety. The only time I had to deal with those things was about a hundred years ago when I was on birth control pills. Hormones can really play havoc with moods. Have you been dealing with menopause? A lot of us had early menopause because of celiac and it seems the...
  20. It DOES cost an arm and a leg but so does Udi's. The way my hands are right now I could give them an arm and an arm and never miss them. (hmm...I wonder if I could play guitar with hooks?)
  21. OK, I just looked up the ingredients in every product Canyon Bakehouse makes and it looks like they are not only a gluten-free facility, but an oat-free one too. (And corn-free for those who have trouble with corn. Come to think of it, I didn't see any soy listed either but I could be mistaken 'cause I wasn't checking for that.) It's my second favorite bread...
  22. The problem is the sulfites are what makes them work. A FEW people have said the dark raisins work so I guess I'll try that. I just mixed up a batch or the golden ones last night so I think what I'll do is wait. Stop eating the raisins and hope the P goes away and the arthritis pain doesn't come back. If it does, I guess I'll buy another jug of gin and try...
  23. I told you all about my success with the gin-soaked raisins. And I told you all about the terrible psoriasis flare I've been dealing with. Well I just figured it out. The golden raisins are treated with sulfites. Sulfites can cause psoriasis flares. It makes sense because even though the P started flaring after a gluten CC, it never went away. I started...
  24. I'm so sorry you are having yet another setback. I guess the best thing would be to ditch ALL of the suspects and see what happens. It sounds like the woman you talked to was really sure about the sausage. If that's what it turns out to be it'll be easy to give that up. As for the Udi's, I am really surprised that a company dedicated to gluten-free wouldn...
