  1. I wonder of it could be some kind of allergic reation to something the vaccine is made with. Here is a list of some of theinactive ingredients, but they vary from company to company: According to the FDA, the inactive ingredients in the flu vaccine are egg protein, formaldehyde, sodium deoxycholate and thimerosal. Two of these inactive ingredients have...
  2. Just keep a loaf of Ener-G tapioca bread in the freezer! When they ask, give 'em a slice of that. I guarantee they'll never ask again!
  3. I just looked it up, and while there is no wheat in tatoo inks, there is enough other stuff I would never want put in my body to keep me from ever getting one. Here is the info: In the United States, tattoo inks are subject to regulation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as cosmetics and color additives.[2] The FDA and medical practitioners have...
  4. I'm 57, and I've never had the flu. I wash my hands a lot, and never touch my face or food until I do. I too used to be sick all the time when I was young. Bronchitis at least twice a year, pneumonia about seven times during my life, croup as a child, and just a touch of asthma. (And yes, I still smoke ) As an adult though, I hardly ever even catch...
  5. Luv, I am so sorry to hear that you are in constant pain! I hope and pray it gets better for you soon! Kind of makes me feel like a crybaby for complaining about psoriasis and insomnia!
  6. I just found out that the Rapid City Journal got the date wrong! It is actually going to be on SUNDAY, the 18th. That means I can go! There's no way I could close the store on a Saturday (always my busiest day), but it's getting late in the tourist season, so I think i can safely close on Sunday. I never even thought to ask if there are any other members...
  7. It's probably just me, but I will be so glad when this anniversary has passed. I don't WANT to relive that day. I won't even be turning the radio on tomorrow. That day, I was living in Connecticut, and my husband had just left me a few months before. I felt so alone and scared. I had the day off from work and was just about to step out the door to go do...
  8. I can't eat popcorn, but I have broken styrofoam, I mean ricecakes, into popcorn sized chunks and put melted butter on them. Tastes alot like the real thing, and no hulls to get stuck between my teeth! I even tried adding a little cinnamon and sugar, and it was OK. I'm going to have to try the garlic - it sounds yummy!
  9. Bart was the best dog I ever had. When he would do something stupid, like try to uproot an entire TREE by grabbing a low hanging branch and tugging with all his might (I think he wanted me to throw the "stick" for him), I would call him Bartless, as in "Bart the hopeless dog". When he would do something smart like ask for his tennis ball by name (yes,...
  10. Xanthan gum is grown on corn. Before I realized I was corn intolerant, I bought some. I never got to use it. I can't get guar gum in my town, so I bought some ground flaxseed. They SAY you can use it in place of the xantan gum, but I don't know how to cook, and frankly, I've been afraid to try baking anything yet. Here is a list of things you could use instead...
  11. Bread. Homemade bread. Warm, fresh out of the oven. Soft on the inside, crusty on the outside, with an aroma that makes you feel like you've died and gone to heaven. Melted butter slathered on so thickly it almost drips when you eat it. I'd better stop now or I'm going to cry...
  12. I have a great recipe to share! As I have mentioned before, I'm not a very good cook, but THIS one works so well I have had lots of complements on it, especially on a hot day. Here it is: Water - place glass under tap. Turn right hand knob until glass is full. Drink. Repeat if necessary.
  13. I can attest to the fact that Milk of Magnesia works! I have been using it for the past two weeks, and it works BETTER than any deodorant or anti-perspirant I have ever tried. It's a little messy, but not that bad - what I did was poke a hole in the aluminum seal under the cap, and I took a powder puff out of a package of face powder that I had never used...
  14. Mushroom, I notice there are quite a few of us who have corn and gluten problems. Your sig line says you've been corn free since 2009. How do you do it? What can I eat besides meat, brown rice, and (some) veggies? Any guidance you could give would be greatly appreciated by me, and by others here, I'm sure. I was so PROUD and HAPPY when I first started...
  15. Advil uses corn as a filler. When I took Advil last week, I got the insomnia back immediately, and the psoriasis showed up the next day. I knew I was poisoning myself, but I was in pain and had to take something. After about a week of taking the Advil I was finally able to stop. The insomnia cleared up right away, but the psoriasis will probably take two...
  16. I'm keeping a food diary too, and I keep thinking I'll try to reintroduce the "biggies" like soy and dairy soon, but I keep getting CORNED, so there's no point in trying something new until I'm healed. Last time it was Advil, and I'm still waiting for the psoriasis to clear up.
  17. I never even thought about it, but now that you mention it, I have often run a low grade fever. Hmmm...
  18. Like many Celiacs, I discovered that I have other food intolerances. It seems that once you give up gluten, any other intolerances you may have are no longer masked by the gluten symptoms. That's why it is reccommended that when you first start your diet you should only eat plain, while foods from the outside aisles of the grocery store. Avoid the common...
  19. There are SO many things that could be causing your symptoms. You might have a problem with corn, soy, dairy, nuts, nightshade veggies like potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant,or even other grains like rice or quinoa. I think the best thing you could do right now is eat strictly whole foods. Plain cooked meats, fresh veggies, washed well and lightly steamed,...
  20. Oh, how I wish there were some companies out there who had a similar policy about lableing corn! I have called several companies, and while most of the people I talked to were fairly educated about gluten, they have no idea of the many ingredients corn can hide in, and when asked if there is corn in their "natural flavor", they simply don't know.
  21. When 9/11 happened, I was in the middle of the sequel to The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. (Great book, by the way. Not in the same genre, but I just love anything having to do with King Arthur). Anyway, like many Americans, I couldn't concentrate well enough to read for a long time after that. When I finally felt up to reading again, I reached...
  22. I agree with Skylark. When nobody else can figure out what is wrong with a person, they turn to Mayo. They are so thorough, and they WILL get to the bottom of your problem. I think they know there ARE other things that can harm the villi, and they want to be sure they don't miss something. Relax and let them work their magic. I'd be willing to bet they will...

    ARCHIVED Lymphoma

When Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers, the doctor told me I had a 25% chance of getting it. But then he went on to explain that the general poplulation with NO first degree relative who has it, still has a 15% chance. That brought the worry down to a reasonable level. As a matter of fact, the worry is zero because we all have to die of something, none...
  24. Thanks everybody! I didn't know the bluberries would thicken on their own. This is going to be easier than I thought. I won't be making enough to can because it's really hard to get good bluberries here. They won't grow in the soil here in the Black Hills so I have to buy them. A while back they had some on sale at our local grocer. First day of the sale...
  25. I'm starting to get my sweet tooth back and I'd like to do something with blueberries. I can't have wheat OR corn, and am trying to stay low carb right now too. I'm not much of a cook, but I was thinking that if I cooked my bluberries on the stove and thickened them with gelatin, I should be able to make a sort of blueberry jam, right? But I'd like something...
